Comments on here are really harsh. The lad is 23, he's played a handful of games in the last 9 months and played as a right sided CB when he's left footed. Give him a break for God sake. Made a couple of bad decisions but they didn't cost us. Chester has been making mistakes all season, guess we should get rid of him too. For £2/3 million i think we'd be extremely foolish to not buy him in the summer.

Whelan can do an ok job when we're on the front foot, we won't today, maybe in parts of the game.
When teams are coming at us and we need actual legs and energy in the midfield Whelan is a liability. I'm sorry but it's just facts.
McGinn is exactly the type of player you cannot leave out in derby games and Smith have just done it and i think we will pay the price for it today.
And if we win? Will you credit Smith?

Leaving out McGinn for Whelan what a idiot move by Smith.
If we lose the midfield battle this is on Smith.
Whelan has arguably been one of our best players in the last few games. How about you support the 11 players on the pitch and wait until after the game for your reactionary rubbish.

I also think that people are overestimating how many players will be let go.
I really don't think we will give many of them a new contract. This is a big chance to start next season with a fresh slate almost. A chance for Smith to mold his own team.

Adomah is the interesting one. We have a one year option to extent. If we have no money to spend will the club exercise it? Personally I'd rather release him
Surely the best idea is for us to take the option to extend his contract and then attempt to sell him for some sort of fee? Even £500k is £500k.

we're a bit short this weekend with injuries so i imagine it'll be a choice between jedinak at cb with hause LB, or hause CB and mcginn LB...i know which i'd prefer
I mean if we want to play players in the correct position, it would make sense to play Taylor at LB and Mings and Hause at CB. I understand that means we have to play Taylor but at least it's his natural position.

Any updates on the injury?
I think I read earlier that he's out for 6 weeks.

Bowen & Lolley would be nice with some of the Grealish money. 2 Villa fans replacing 1.
I think Lolley signed a new 5 year deal in the last few months so I'd be amazed if we went for him.

Perhaps the plan is to get promoted this season and benefit from the extra TV money?
We're not dealing with Dr Tony anymore though. These men in charge are real businessmen. I really don't think they would pin everything on promotion. Far too much risk involved.

I really refuse to believe that we would have splurged £5million on a new RB in January for us to then allow him to go back on loan and also for us to have spent £7million on a goalkeeper when we could have just recalled Steer anyway and had him compete with Nyland.
There has to be a plan. Simply has to be.

Remember guys we will be saving almost 200k in wages come the summer per week. That’s a huge saving
I think it could well be more than that when you take into account the loan players leaving too.

Gardner, I think he does
Not in my opinion. Doesn't have the right mentality to make it with us. He's had chances in the past and never taken them but he looks okay for other teams.

We’ve got a right back coming in in the Summer and a central midfielder returning from loan
Which central midfielder? Tshibola? Gardner? I don't think either of those will fit into Smith's plans otherwise i think he may well have recalled them in January.

You think he’s average? No-one’s taken a chance on him, wherever he’s been he’s scored goals throughout his career, I’d take him here in the Summer
He was at Southampton back when they first got promoted back to the Prem and they shipped him out on loan because they obviously didn't think he'd cut it in a higher league. Don't get me wrong he's very good at this level but at 33 he's exactly the sort of player we need to stop signing.

So based on that, I think we need (in order):
- Starting CB (Mings please)
- Starting Left back
- Back up CB
- Right winger
- Defensive midfielder
- Left Winger
- Back up Right winger
- Back up CB
- Striker
- Central midfielder
- Back up Defensive midfielder
I don't think we can afford to go out and buy those (at least) eleven players - I think we need to be looking at trying to get as many young and hungry as we can afford, four or five on loans and a couple of out of contract players with a little experience.
It's a big ask.
We have the option to buy Hause for £2/3 million i believe. He looks promising, i can see Smith wanting to bring him in permanently.

Billy Sharp isn’t average, wherever he’s been throughout his career, he’s scored goals
He's average in the fact that he's not good enough to play any higher than this level.

If he's not fit to play 90 minutes I'd prefer to give him an hour from the start and be on the front foot instead of giving him 30 minutes when we could well be chasing the game.

He's not been the same player since his injury last season in February/March. Just looks like his legs have gone, he can't beat a man anymore which is making him largely ineffective. I think the only reason he's in the team is because he helps out defensively. Needs to leave in the summer.

The Ibrahimovic incident was totally different. I have no doubt that incident wasn't an accident, if i recall correctly Ibrahimovic elbowed Mings twice during that game and the referee wasn't interested so he foolishly took his own form of revenge. The incident with Oliviera in my opinion was just a bad accident. There was no aggro between the 2 players during the game and Mings reaction afterwards shows to me that he didn't mean it. He didn't point out to the referee that anything has happened with Ibra because he did it on purpose.
Two similar incident but 1 was intentional and 1 accidental.

Yeah, as the deadline to register to play will be midday tomorrow. So if he signs he’ll be registered tonight, in time to play. I believe.
I think he's got a hamstring injury at the moment anyway.

Not a chance they will move Kalinic n when he only signed in January.
