We wee due some luck. Performance was shocking, but its the result that counts given our league position.

We must be the worst PL team ever for giving away possession and Gabby has the worst ball control I have ever seen in a professional footballer. Heroic defending as well as a few lucky breaks. We need to follow this up with a win on Sunday. Andy is suspended so its surely time for Jack Grealish to start. UTV

Very very tough game. We need to watch out for Bolasie's pace breaking forward.

Hopefully Benteke can come in and hit the ground running. I'd go:

Agree with that line up 100%. Think we will get 4 points from next 2 games. That will mean 5 unbeaten. A real confidence booster. I am confident that if Cole stays fit he wil offer Benteke a good supply. Grealish for Cole and Gabby for Weimann on 75 mins if we find ourselves 1 up again. Whatever, we must keep attacking and not defend so deep as this has cost us 4 pts in the last 2 games IMO.

Many posters seem to be relying on Benteke to return and win all our games for us. What happens if he picks up another long injury?

We may as well have anyone as manager if we can only expect to do something when one particular players is on the pitch.

My point entirely. There is no way we should be in a position where our premier league survival is so dependant on the performance of a single player. If Benteke comes back and plays well it'll merely be papering over the cracks. And let's not forget that our tactic when he's fit is "hoof the ball to Tekkers in the hope that he'll be able to take on three defenders on his own and score a wonder goal out of nothing."

I will gladly take 'papering over the cracks' as long as we stay up. Its been an utter crap 4 years at VP. No ambition to improve, its simply an exercise of PL survival so Randy can trouser the Sky money AGAIN!

Hutton MOTM for me, but I thought Cole was oustanding whilst he was on the field. I think we would have won this comfortably had Benteke been playing. Really fancy us to get 4 points out of the next six....we really need to or else we are in for a difficult second half of the season!

Got a hunch that Vlaar will be able to play on Monday....I know for a fact that he has been training with the first team squad (check out Fridays training pics on OS).

2 - 1 to the Villans, followed by another narrow win at Burnley next week means things will be looking so much better by 5pm next Saturday.

Bent is useless in a team that creates no chances. He isn't going to pluck the ball out the air spin and bang it in the top corner. He was a fantastic signing and he kept us up, no doubt about that.

Just look at them goals, tap ins or in the box sharp movement. Problem is we took away Young/Downing/Walker who created most of them and replaced them with utter dross. Lambert basically never used him so I don't blame him for being unfit or disinterested, my motivation would probably be gone too. How many wingers do we have? How often have we got the byline this season? This is the huge problem, we have one style of play and it never changes.

Great effort from the players with no game plan. 

 

Lambert is a disgrace to football. His only subs he brought on two centre backs. Well played. I can understand he wanted to stop the bleeding but he should have made a change earlier or pick the right team in the first place.

 

We were poor. Cant keep possession and when we do have it we go wide for our shit fullbacks for a cross. So predictable. Awful.

Not a great performance....but a slight, very slight improvement. Well played Baker who played for 85 mins after getting injured early on.

Cant see us scoring too many without Benteke!

Guzan saved us in the last few minutes.

For those who say we were lucky....I ask the question, what is wrong with being lucky? And can we please be lucky every week?

Its ironic that the guy who was going to 'get our season back on track' makes an idiotic decision when we were playing reasonably well and might have gone on to win.

Having said that, the referee couldhave easily diffused the situation before it got out of hand. That does not excuse CB's reaction, but it is a valid point IMO.

Managers tactics extremely poor today. Only 2 decent performances IMO....Hutton and Cleverley. There is something drastically wrong as we are the only side not to score against Everton this season. I would love to know whats happening with Okore...something very strange going on there me thinks. And why no Grealish in the squad? I am sick of people saying 'he's too young'. Barkley is not much older and he is an automatic choice for Everton when fit. We desperately need some creativety and I think Grealish could provide it. Grealish is old enough to drink/smoke/vote.....so to say he is not old enought to play is complete b*******. and there is only way to gain PL experience...thats by playing him...whats the delay?

The length of Vlaar's contract will probably be the sticking point rather than his salary IMO. 3 years at 45K would be about right IMO

Good effort....3 expected defeats. Baker MOTM for. I think he has improved quite alot this season when teamed up with an experienced CB. I have got to say although I was not at first impressed by the signing of Senderos he has done vey well so far.

Sanchez definetely well off the pace. Wont judge him on this performance though. Got a feeling that he was also affected by the virus as he looked very slow and lethargic, not at all like his WC performances...give the lad time!

Sanchez is clearly not up to speed yet. Needs plenty more game time to get used to the PL pace.
