Shame to see how much Ireland have gone backwards as a cricketing nation over the past 10 or so years.

They genuinely had the potential to be a semi decent test team and more than capable limited overs side.

Brexit and ironically getting full Test match status didn't help them as now Ireland players have to play as overseas in county cricket, when counties are more likely to want players from established Test nations.  Before you had the likes of Joyce, Rankin, Morgan, Porterfield, the O'Briens and others playing decent first class cricket between international matches.

I am the only fan on the planet that's not that arsed about the badge, specifically the finer details?

Whatever we go for is gonna look banging on the strip when we're lifting the Champions League next season.

I'm the same really, our identity is more linked to playing in claret and blue and at Villa Park for me than the crest.  The badges all look relatively OK.  I did think the gold lion versions looked nice so a bit disappointed if we don't have that on the kit.  I'm more concerned about the state of Villa Park going forward.

Well, if we're going on to the post match thread, 3/10, wnb.

Starmer comes out of that with people asking more about "...so does he have a plan?". "What's that £2,000 about?".

He wasn't helped by the moderator, but he struggled massively with that format, he couldn't deal with the bare-faced lies from Sunak, and really struggled to get a point across. I think he's lost more voters than he gained there.

But I do know he used to be the director of public prosecutions.

It seems daft to do these things before the manifestos are officially released.  I thought Starmer did OK, Sunak obviously has the benefit of zero expectations and was given way too much leeway by the moderator.

If we sell Dougie for (say) £60m (he's in his prime, but only has 2 years left on his current deal)
And buy Gallagher for (say) £40m (on a 5 year deal)
    Are we weaker?

From a PSR perspective, we've got about a £50m swing from those 2 deals based on the assumptions above.
So I guess we can definitely keep JJ, we've got a 'homegrown' player for Europe and it gives us a lot of space to do more.

Adding Barkley too, and then let Monchi wheel and deal on the players on the fringes - it could give us a lot of space to add real quality elsewhere.

I don't like it, but it seems to be as good as it might get - especially if we can get other players Emery wants.

Maybe we could them to ransom over Alisha as well and get another £10m.

  5. If he did leave then Juve wouldn't be a bad place to go from our point of view.  Not one of our rivals, just a small chance we would have to play against them in the CL.  I'm still hoping he signs a new contract here though.

What happens if we start the season without a Kamara replacement?

Will Doug be excused from putting in any sort of decent performances?

If we start the season without a new defensive midfielder I'll stick my head up a cow's arse.  I'm trying to envisage a scenario where Unai hasn't spotted the major flaw in the team and not corrected it and it just doesn't compute.

  7. We were very nearly top at Christmas.  If we sell any of the key players we'd be nuts imo.  We need smart signings that allow our key players to be fresher in March, April and May.  They don't need to be £40m+ players.  We need a smart signing to cover Kamara and allow Doug to do his stuff.  He nearly had double figure goals in half a season plus his assists and other work.  Incredible output.

A month to sort a medical and contract? Interesting.

It may be something like Luton don't formally get relegated until the end of June and whatever break clause there is kicks in at the start of July.  Plus he's probably on holiday at the moment.

One good thing about the close season is that I don't have to think about which underpants to wear on matchdays.

If only Unai realised how much help we give him.

I was thinking something similar the other day, this season's kit has been a lucky charm when I wore it watching the games, now do I keep wearing it or can I buy the new one and it will inherit the luckiness?

If you could go back knowing what you do now, and advise your 16yo self on what career path to take, what would it be?

Much different to how it is now?

My main regret is that I was so shy back then it got in the way of everything including not being able to cope with uni, if I had my time back and knew what help I could get then I would have achieved a lot more career-wise.  As it is I'm pretty content with my lot but I always fancied being a teacher.

Why is Lenny Kravits so bad at miming

Some artists get the needle about having to mime and either half arse it or deliberately do something daft like swap singers.  No idea if he's one of them.

If it’s true that he wants to leave, then I’ll be happy to see him go. Never keep players who want out, it can disrupt a team spirit. Grealish showed no one is irreplaceable.

The way he celebrated that third goal vs Liverpool doesn't indicate someone who wants to leave.  I'd be very surprised if any of our players want to go, bar Duran possibly.

I think I’d sell Cash, Carlos and Duran before Ramsey and Luiz.

Me too, though I think we would have to take a loss on Carlos, so I'd keep him.  Try and get £18m profit on Cash, £15m on Duran, sell Tim, KKH, Chrisene for another £12m-15m profit with buyback, Dendoncker we would probably break even, get Coutinho's wages off the books.  Surely about £50m would give us some breathing room with all the improved sponsorship deals and Champions League money on top.

I wouldn't buy Gallagher myself, I'd try and get Onana in from Everton while they're in the shit, Smith Rowe on a loan-to-buy, a right back, Barkley and Hermoso.

My issue isn't one of morals or pride, or even finances

I actually question whether he is still as good a player as he was when he was last with us?

He just seems so pedestrian and average when I watch him now.

Don't know if maybe we hyped him up too much when he was here, or if Pep has sucked the footballing soul and excitement out of him

I'd bet my house Unai getting the best out of him, given the chance.

I get the market is whatever it is with silly prices banded about but it just seems when we've been talking about Gallagher the price hasn't been debated as much. Are his numbers and is his energy / skillset (when having 1yr left) really deemed £40m?

He's a decent player but I have a reservation to helping Chelsea with their FFP troubles. That's that when I thought about other comparables and its equally mad that someone who's played 4 months of PL football after a £20m move is potentially worth £80m as you're saying.

We really need Monchi to be getting the Wharton type profiles before they explode rather than spending £40m once they're in the prem.

I think £40m is a fair valuation these days.  I think Mount cost more than that (lol).  Personally I'd rather us try and sign Onana from Everton if we have that kind of money, as he fills the position we are really short of numbers in.

Go on a British holiday during the May school holidays they said. It’ll be fun they said.

It’s pissing down. The food and drink are simultaneously shite and overpriced.

The beagle is having a great time though.

We did the same thing and I think my brothers and I have decided it would be the last family holiday we ever go on.  My Dad and his wife did my head in with their bickering.  Now we've gone home, her two sisters are going out there.  I think he might combust.

You could say we made a lot of noise, got euro 28, and then bottled it utterly. I wonder what we look like on the outside.

I don't think UEFA would be very happy about it.  Deep down I wouldn't be surprised if the club wouldn't be that devastated about losing out on hosting games.

I'd like to ask Heck how long he thinks the North Stand will be fit for purpose.  It looks like it's going to be at least another decade with it.  I suspect he would just think it's not his problem.
