  1. I think we did offer it to OGS unofficially.

It explains Kendricks Ah-ha tweet and the lack of any approaches elsewhere.

As soon as you approach someone these days, noise is made. eg Liverpool and Klopp, Rodgers, Martinez, AVB etc etc

Therefore I think our eggs were in th Ole basket.

to me that much is obvious

I don't think it is. Let's face it, the whole OGS thing could (and perhaps should) have gone off without anybody noticing.

If all the eggs were in one basket, then they had made the offer and he indicated that he would accept, to the point that he went home to sort his affairs out that end. He changed his mind. Shit happens, you dust yourself down and move on.

A week on VT wouldn't be the same if there wasn't a feeding frenzy on Messrs Lerner and Faulkner by the resident wolves.

The fact is nobody knows shit, so all this 'he would come here, no one will come here, they've **** up again' is all rubbish.

    Let's wait and see.

To be fair to PF and RL they surprised and excited me with their choice of OGS. However, Houllier and McLeish were very poor choices.

I hope I am wrong, but I suspect that the man who becomes manager is going to disappoint alot of people.

  2. I don't even know anymore. After the buzz and excitement around Solskjær and the subsequent falling through, I fear a repeat of last summer's drama and dysfunction. I feel like being a Villa fan anymore is a lesson in dealing with dashed hopes and expectations, adjusting those hopes and expectations to a significantly lower standard, and still somehow being remarkably disappointed with the results. I would have been thrilled with Solskjær, I'd still take Lambert or Martinez or a pipe dream appointment like Villas-Boas...but I fear Bruce, McCarthy, or worse.

    Gary Megson.

  3. Hello,new here.

I believe the situation is simple,as far as I know Villa haven't offered Ole Gunnar the job. What he's doing now is damage control, mending broken hearts and shattered dreams.

It's the only thing he can do really.

I'm 100% sure if Villa offers,Ole Gunnar will accept.

His brutal honesty answering the infamous 3 questions is a side we haven't seen from him and I believe it shows how much he wants the job, this is not casual interest.

Sure is tough on the old nerves.

What's happening in Norway, have they finished their meal yet and has Ole mended some broken hearts?

  4. Really pleased that mostly everyone seems so happy with our pursuit of OGS. I have my doubts and continue to have them despite the euphoric nature of some of the posts.

But, has anyone remotely considered the possibility that they guy may even say no to us and what that means for our continued managerail pursuit?

We all know this is a risk, but every managerial appointment is. I remember when Ron Saunders was appointed that there were very few Villa supporters who wanted him.

Even if OGS turns us down I think Randy has played this much better than last year. Instead of waiting for the likes of Dave Whelan to tell us we are not big enough for Martinez, Randy has been pro-active. The last article I read is that Martinez is now seriously considering Villa as he is not sure he is ready for Liverpool.

Its like the woman next door who you fancy something rotten, you always want what you can't have.

  5. Here's where I'm at. I think we all read far too much into betting odds, media speculation and bell-end ITK's, the reality - which barely needs pointing out but plainly does - is that there is only one man who is going to make this decision and that man doesn't speak to the media, the bookies and isn't chatting down the pub to some ITK's sister's best friends hamster. Unless you can read RL's mind then you are not 'in the know'. It's just a fact that Villa now works a bit differently and whilst it's frustrating for us fans, the only way that we're going to get a whiff of who the new manager is is when and if that manager (or their chairman) leaks something out before the official announcement, a la McLeish.

With that reality in mind, I suspect that the real 'manager search' process is much closer to RL having his own opinion, listening to the opinions of others and then drawing up a wish list and asking PF to go through the process of approaching the clubs and individuals on it.

If that is true then I think Lambert, Martinez and Rodgers will all say no to us. I know some will get uppity about that but they're all managing clubs on the up (or seemingly so) and why would they give that up to come to a club that is genuinely struggling (unless they were being promised a big cash pot which they're clearly not going to get from RL - it would make no sense of the post-MON regime approach to a sustainable financial strategy)? I think we are then left with a lower league manager, or a foreign manager who wants to manage in the Premier league. This leaves me to think that Poyet is the outstanding candidate from outside the PL and then the possibility of the likes of Rijkard, AVB, Solskjar, etc come into play if we are to look abroad.

All that to say, I'm therefore ITK and Gus Poyet will be announced the new Villa manager at a 4:15pm press conference tomorrow afternoon (there will be 4 chairs and a pallet of Macron purple shirts in the background).

Very good post, but Poyet is on a five year contract at Brighton and I can't see Randy wanting to pay out that much compensation to get his man.

If we had Deadly in charge I would be confident that Lambert, Martinez or Rogers could be poached. However, RL and PF seem to want to play by the rules and this will hinder their search when dealing with the likes of Dave Whelan.

What RL and PF should have done throughout this miserable season is have looked throughout Europe for a man who can transform this club. Not many people in England had heard of Arsene Wenger when David Dein asked him to manage Arsenal and look what happened. Villa finished above Arsenal the season before Wenger arrived.

I would like to think that RL and PF could come up with somebody in the same mould as Wenger. Given their two choices so far, somehow I doubt it and my biggest fear is that somebody like Steve Bruce will arrive as he has premier league experience.

  6. Here's the post from villafansutd.com

    Afternoon!!

We all hate them, People saying they are in the know!! I certainly do so before I start I apologise for this as I hate this sort of speculation, but what I’m hearing I believe

I am writing this and fully expecting that if it turns out that it is not true, I will be criticised!! However I feel it is my duty to report what I have heard to the Fans and supporters of Villa Fans United!!

So here goes, I will hang my hat on this guy and put my faith in him!!!

Alex McLeish will leave Aston Villa at the end of the season!!!

I will copy and paste the email sent to me on to here and you can all decide for yourselves but I am taking it as reliable and i am really hoping that Aston Villa Football Club can have a much better season next year!!

Some people are calling for villa fans to renew season tickets ahead of this news happening, but I oppose that!!!

Not renewing will be why the club are looking to get a new manager in, and hurriedly rushing out and renewing will only make the club think twice, I say until Alex McLeish has long gone, keep your money in your pocket

Alex McLeish, he is a decent fella, just not for Aston Villa, I wish him all the best in any other tenure at any other club, it was never going to work out, and I hope we have all learnt our lessons and we can all move onwards and upwards

    Email below

    Hi

Been told that he will be going after the last game of the season, and that it was decided before the WBA game that a review will be undertaken at the end of the season and that it will be confirmed then.

No confirmation yet on who they want to replace him but it’s fair to say a long term replacement is probably identified, heard this from top people in the club, and it is a fairly poorly kept secret in media circles that he will go.

    Speak soon

    horseshit.

I am not ITK, but I know somebody who has worked at BH for many years.

I said to him to-day "Do you think AM will be sacked next week?"

He laughed and said "No, trust me."

It made me depressed for the rest of the day

  7. Nah, not buying all this crap about Martinez or lambert

Totally unproven, well other than Martinez who proves each year to be utterly inept for 95% of the season

To keep Wigan up on crowds of 16,000 and having to sell your best players is one hell of an achievement.

He can also get the best out of players. How can Maloney and N'Zogbia look like world beaters playing for them and garbage playing for us.

I think Martinez could do wonders for players like Bannan and Albrighton. He is calm under pressure and prepared to change tactics to win games. Since they changed their system to 3 at the back their form has been fantastic.

Whenever a manager is appointed there is an element of risk. I remember that most fans didn't want Ron Saunders and look what he did for the club. I think Martinez has the potential to really take the club forward.

  8. Like alot of fans I was prepared to give AM a chance, but gradually his dire, negative football turned me against him. However, I fear that he will still be hear at the start of next season for the following reasons:

    1. Randy and PF like him. When you talk to Alex it is pure football.

    2. Randy and PF will be taken in by his excuses, injuries, selling players, bad luck, blah, blah, blah. Nobody works harder than Alex.

    3. They will not have a clue who to replace him with.

    4. They haven't got the balls to sack him.

    5. It will be expensive to sack him.

    6. They want continuity.
