Don't take this as gospel. Just a bit of info from Bodymoor Heath. Apparently there is one " Big" signing about to happen soon. Possibly Belhanda, only possibly though.

Don't shoot the messenger please, just what i have been told.

This is a guy on H+V who has got a fair bit of stuff right in past. He's not saying it is Belhanda but adds some more leaves and embers to this

In a follow up post he said it will be early next week before we hear anything.

OK if this big signing is not happening until next week we can all relax.  It would be interesting to know who the other player could be if its not Belhanda.

What's the deal with David Mcnally on twitter? His problem with Lambert is pretty pathetic and ridiculous for somebody who holds such a high position at a football club.

I see McNally is saying that Villa will have to pay substantial compensation for Steer. Strange because I thought his contract ran out on July 1st.

We do have to pay compensation because he's under 24

    OK thanks.

TBH I hope the last one is English.

Flooding the team with good foreigners is fine with me, up to a point, but I dont want us to turn into the next Arsenal.

Nigel, while I admire your patriotism, if I were to offer you CL for 16 successive seasons, the premier league, the FA Cup, a new stadium and 60,000 regular supporters I think you might take it even if it meant more foreign players.

The bottom line is that they are better value for money.  It doesn't bother me that Benteke, Guzan, Weimann, Mellberg, Laursen and Yorke are not British.  All I am bothered about is can they play and will they give their all for the cause.

It would be nice having a team with the likes of Young, Milner, Downing and Barry, but we have shown that we can't keep hold of them even if we want to.

    No thanks

Fair enough, how about an extended Villa Park that regularly attracted 60,000 fans.

  6. Football is a job to Christian Benteke.  He has surpassed all expectations this season and you can't blame him for keeping his options open.  If a top club comes in for him and offers what PL considers is a good price then he has a decision to make.  I am not convinced any club would offer any more than £20 million for him as he has only had one good season in the premier league.

I am sure that every body at Villa wants him to stay, but it is no good having an unhappy player at the club.  Villa should offer him a wage that falls within their wage structure and if he doesn't want to take it they should put him on the transfer list.

I have full confidence in Lambert's ability to replace him.

  7. My first post as a brand new Aston Villa Fan!

I must confess that Jores Okore is the reason that I suddenly find myself as a Villa fan. I have been following Jores Okore since his first game for FC Nordsjælland in March 2010. I remember that I was deeply impressed when this 18-year old kid was up against the star of them all in the Superliga Dame N’doye playing for FC Kopenhagen (now Spartak Moscow) and won the battle between the two.

    Some facts about Jores Okore:

Dynamo Kiev, Fulham, Chelsea has already been offering app. 5 mio pounds for him but have all been turned down. Peter Schmeichel recommended him to Sir Alex in Man U. Top clubs such as Man U, Dortmund, Juventus, Liverpool have been following him for quite some time.

He has won 2 cup finals, 1 Danish Championship and 1 silver medal with FC Nordsjælland. This season he has been vice-captain of the team. He has been playing 7 matches for the National Team and was part of the National Team at the European Chamionship though he did not play. Besides he has been playing two seasons for the “league national team” in the winter break of the Superliga. He was last year named “Danish Talent of the Year” by the players of the National Team, Superligaen and 1st Division – in front of a player such as Christian Eriksen from Ajax. He has played 5 Champions League matches (was injured in the 6th).

Jores has been playing for FC Nordsjælland since his youth. He has been trained in FC Nordsjælland Barcelona inspired system with many passes and keeping the ball at the ground. One of his competencies is long diagonal passes forward.

The main forces of Jores is his physics (it is told that when using the former playing suit of FC Nordsjælland he needed to have special short due to his heavily muscular legs). He is seriously strong! He has for many years stated that his favorite league was the English league – especially due to the man-to-man clashes during the match. Secondary force is his speed. He had the 10.th fastest sprint in the Superliga in the previous season and the fastest of all defenders. After the first Champions League match against Chelsea he told that he discovered that it did not matter if they passed him as he could easily run them up again.

Even though he is only 20 he is quite experienced. In Danish Forums it has been discussed if he is ready to play PrL. The absolute majority says yes (PrL is heavily exposed on Danish TV) though some skepticals aren’t absolutely sure. However almost everyone is sure that he is better than the excisting CB’s of Villa.

Critical problems about Jores Okore: I see that many have seen the video from the Chelsea – FC Nordsjælland match. I much state that this was one of the best matches Jores have ever played. Even though I have seen many close to. Playing at the national team Jores have never played as well as he does for FC Nordsjælland. His top performance in the spring has not been as outstanding as it was in the autumn though mistakes coming from lacking experience have been minimized.

My personal judgment of Jores in PrL is that he is ready to take the step to a club placed in the middle of the league. However, being only 20 some mistakes might be seen still.

Of personality Jores is modest, hard working and popular among his team mates. Even though he has received quite some yellow cards he is a fair player. His opponents just tends to fall around him.

    Sorry for eventually grammar mistakes.

FORZA VILLA! – or whatever you say in my new favorite club.

Congratulations on becoming a Villa supporter Danish Okore Fan.  We love Danish centre backs here. especially if they are like Kent Neilsen and Martin Laursen.

  8.

Wonder whats selling our club so well that players as coveted as Okore are happy to sign.

Okore have told the Danish media, that the whole package that Villa had offert him is the main reason why he came. The manager, future prospects, training facillities etc.

By the Way, if not mentioned before, FC Norsjælland rejected a late offer from Everton, in respect of the negotiations they had with Villa

I was really worried that Martinez would come in and snatch Okore from our grasp, but it seems that Lambert is building a reputation here and abroad that Villa is the club to come to if you are young and talented.

Bent going to Newcastle would be really good .. I think they're changing and trying to get some English players .. Which would let them little bit out of the foreign market .. And that could make it easier for us out there .. Especially in France ..

+ We have a space in the wage bell .. And the fee we get !

Anyway I think this is a hard one tbh ..

I think Newcastle's plight should serve to teach others, including ourselves.

That side should have been nowhere near the relegation zone, regardless of their injuries.

If we sign the players who have been linked, then I think we should start to look a bit closer to home for any further additions.

I don't think that this will be a problem at Villa.  We have a core of British players in Baker, Gabby, Lowton, Westwood and Delph.  Players from abroad such as Guzan, Weimann and Vlaar are English speaking and not likely to rock the boat.  At Newcastle there are a number of French speaking players whose English is poor and it has been difficult to integrate them all.  In addition Pardew is a word removed.

  10. WATCH THIS!!! he looks unreal!

Very pleased if this comes off.  We really need a right footed defender who can play anywhere in the back four.  If he had been in the team when Vlaar was injured I doubt if we would have had the Christmas from hell.

  11. I am not ITK but I have been fed word that if an offer of around £25-£30 were to come in for benteke, he will be sold.

I would love to see Benteke stay, but every player has their price and I would have confidence in Lambert spending the money wisely.  I remember being gutted when Villa sold Andy Gray to Wolves, but we replaced him with Peter and the rest is history.

  12. not so much ITK but I know somebody who gets little tit bits, but lamberts signings will be in before the pre season trip to Germany, that is players from the continent anyway. any after that will be lower league pick ups here.

This seems to fit in with what he did with Westwood.  Lower league clubs are probably quoting silly prices at the moment, but towards the end of the window the prices come down.

  13. Good to see some players coming in.

More than anything this summer, I want us to sign a creative midfielder. Some wee Spaniard to pick a pass.

We'll probably stick with 4-3-3 in the main, with the front three getting the bulk of the goals, but we really need more from our midfield, and it would be nice to give the opposition something else to worry about.

So who would you drop out of Sylla, Delph and Westwood?

  14.

To think Wigan have 1 win in 6 and are 16th in the form table and so many people think they will win against the second best form team in the country who also have to win.

    It's Wigan.

    it's football!

    It's..........

This is quite fitting as a theme tune to the current situation I feel.

    Love it!

  15. It's a long while since a Villa player made me do a little dance around my living room. Thank you Gabby. It was emotional.

Our inability to keep a clean sheet is a real problem when goals are scarce. How many will we need to score against Chelsea to get anything out of the game?

By the by, I had to suffer through Tony Gayle's co-commentary on the stream I was watching. What a pain in the hole.

Repeatedly trying to blame the Norwich keeper for Gabby's first. Jog on.

Couldn't agree more about Tony Gayle's co-commentary.  He was critical about every thing that Villa did.  What a word removed.

  16. How about Notts County away (3-0 division 3) Only the odd 20,000 Villa fans there?

Thank you sir for reminding me of that great day.  I can remember standing on the half way line and the stand we were in and the stand opposite was full of Villa fans.  It was an amazing site.  Other great games that year included 48,000 against Bournemouth at home and Reading away (I think the score was 5-3, although the memory fades).

  17. Rotterdam 82 is obviously a win that would be hard to better. But the 2-1 win against Manchester United in the League Cup SF in season 70-71, Bournemouth 2-1 (h) Division 3 (71-72), QPR 3-0 LCSF Replay 76-77, Everton 3-2 LCF Replay 76-77, Small Heath (h) 3-0 Division 1 (80-81), Everton (a) 3-1 Division 1 (80-81) and the Manchester United 3-1 LCF 94 after that Tranmere win were better games for me up to 94 although that SF win was a super night as well.

All of the above were great games.  For me it is a toss up between Man Utd in the League Cup semi final in 70-71 and Everton LCF Replay 76-77.

Standing in the Holte End as a young lad in a crowd of 63,000 watching a third division team beat Man Utd with Best and Charlton was quite something.  However, that night at Old Trafford when we won the LCF against Everton was even better.  We were a goal down and battered them in the second half but I didn't think we would ever score.  Then Chris Nichol let fly.

Those years under Sir Ron were brilliant and if we had kept him we could have built a club to rival anybody, but then Deadly couldn't help but stick his nose in where it wasn't wanted.

  18. Thinking about what we've paid Ireland and what we've seen from him is a disgrace.

His transfer fee was around 8.5million as part of the Milner deal.

His wages are rumoured to be around 60k a week.

So over his 2 1/2 year period at the club to date, he's cost us around 16.3 million (8.5m fee + 7.8m wages).

    He's top of my list.

I would love to know the truth behind the Ireland transfer.  We were well and truly shafted by Man City over this one.  If MON knew this was in the pipeline, its no wonder that he threw his toys out of the pram.

Over the years Villa must have wasted more money on duds like Ireland than any other club.  NRC, Davies, Balaban, Collymore, Harewood, Curcic, Shorey, Hutton, Warnock, Sidwell, etc, etc, etc, etc.

  19.

That pass completion stat is amazing considering he was playing a mixture of long and short passes and trying to get the ball out wide or forward.

    A superb performance from him.

And who signed him for peanuts?
    Paul Lambert.

    What's your point?

I think it's fairly obvious what his point is.

Benteke, Westwood and Lowton are worth every penny of the £20m or so he's spent on transfers. Vlaar ain't too shabby either.

Lamberts record in the market, so far, isn't bad at all.

Benteke and Westwood look good signings.

He's created one of the worst defences in the league, the fact they were cheap isn't an excuse.

The rest don't really contribute anything.

    I don't think that's a great show so far.

Here are my marks out of ten for Lambert's signings:

    Guzan 10

    Benteke 10

    Westwood 9

    Lowton 8

    Vlaar 7

    Sylla 7

    Bowery 6

    KEA 5

    Bennett 5

In other words he is very astute in the transfer market.  Even Bowery, KEA and Bennett have all shown that they have the potential to do better.

  20.

When Lambert joined I thought there was no chance of a relegation battle this year. As the transfer window ended it was pretty obvious we would be involved in one. However I never thought we'd be this bad. I never thought the season would have the lows that its had.

I don't understand your post, honestly. You expected us to be involved in a relegation fight, what exactly did you think that would entail?
I wasn't expecting to have our worst start to a premiership season.

I wasn't expecting to lose 8-0 to any team.

I wasn't expecting a 3 game period where we let in 15 goals and scored 0.

I wasn't expecting to have the worst goal difference in the league.

I wasn't expecting at points to be the worst goal scoring team in the league and the worst defensive team in the league.

Like i said, which I thought was pretty clear, I expected a relegation battle but didn't expect the lows we've had.

Don't leave out the cup debacles against lower league teams.

It has been a dreadful season all round. Easily the worst in my time supporting Aston Villa.

Were you out of the country last year and missed Bolton at home.

  21. I think he had it tough. He clearly wasn't backed well enough. But that's why I think he needed to be smarter with his signings.

If you think that Benteke, Westwood, Guzan, Lowton, Sylla and Vllar were not smart signings you are watching a different game to me. KEA and Bennett have been disappointing, but both were relatively cheap and have the potential to improve.  Bowery was less than 500k so it was worth taking a gamble.  Most of these players could be sold for more than we paid for them and all are on reasonable wages.
