Sad news. Seemed like maybe he had started to settle down some. Makes January a ll the more vital.

Agree that it is sad news but to say that he had started to settle down is not true. Yes he is a decent shot stopper but he reminds me of Dracula - he is afraid of crosses.

He will always have a chance with me ,I know he hasn't fulfilled that once promising potential , but those awful injuries certainly played a part in that ,it must of been a bitter pill ,when he realized his Villa career was probably coming to an end ,after all ,he's Villa through and through ,and just for that ,I've nothing but love for him .

Well I would prefer him as a deep lying central midfielder to Wheelan.

I think he crippled our midfield, yet again, personally.  He's decent enough defensively but doesn't enable us to get out at all, so Forest were able to just keep the ball and keep us under pressure.

As soon as he went off, that was completely changed.  Bjarnason hassled and pushed us up the pitch.  Give me that over the occasional block any day of the week.

Completely agree.  We looked so much better with Thor.

He was good. Bjarnason (shockingly) was very good, but Whelan did absolutely nothing wrong, and made one excellent pair of tackles on the edge of the box when we were looking vulnerable. No problems at all.

Apart from giving away a dangerous free kick on the edge of the box, which could esily have cost a goal.

I might be in the minority here but I don't think him being out of the side has had any bearing on results of late.

Yes you are.  Having Jedinak instead of Whelan made a massive difference.

  6. Great to see Villa play such flowing football.  That's the best I've seen Jack play since the semi final against Liverpool..  We look so much better with Jedinak in midfield instead of the lumbering Whelan.  I wonder if Bruce would have dropped him if he wasn't ill.  Sometimes managers just can't see what the fans think is obvious. Special mention for Hutton.  He looks so much better at left back. Considering we are only 5 points behind Derby we still have a great chance of automatic promotion.

  7. I just couldn't understand why Jedinak was played on the left given that he can't use his left foot and Chester had been playing on the left in JT's absence.  For the second goal didn't he take a wild swing with his left foot and completely missed it.

  8. Please no guessing then claiming ITK guys. Lets just try send facts now, its frustrating enough. Fazilla no disrespect but I dont believe you and its this sort of ITK we don't need.

If anyone has genuine ITK it would be nice if they could tell us there source, no names but a little clearer detail would be great. We don't wanna end up like TBAR where nearly everyone is guessing, the place is awash with ITK wannabies, its a mess!

I am not ITK and I don't know if what I was told is true.  I hope it is not and that Randy has somebody lined up but I have a nasty feeling that we will not get a quick sale.

I have been told that Randy had agreed a deal to sell the club weeks ago but that it unexpectedly fell through. He made his statement about talking about his intentions at the end of the season thinking that he would be able to tell everybody that he had sold the club. Now that his buyer has dropped out he is in limbo and is desperately trying to find somebody else to buy the club.

Did the person who told you also get told this?

He is a chartered accountant who specialises in financial acquisitions.

  11. Think the squad is starting to look ok now, hopefully we'll still sign 1 or 2 higher level players who will improve our regular starting 11.

At the start of the season at least i only think Okore out of our new signings will be a regular starter ( maybe Luna? don't know nothing about him, but can't be worse than Bennet) and i still think our midfield is very very weak.

A midfield of Westwood, Sylla and Delph is not very, very weak!

Re: Belhanda. He is finalising a move with a club tonight, early tomorrow. Trying to get confirmation as to who. More to follow. #MHSC

Hopefully this will be an end to it tomorrow.

I will be amazed if that club is Aston Villa.

  13. Waste of money,  should never have been bought,  would have been better off taking the full transfer fee and not wasting £8M in fees and around £11M in wages on this bloke.  That's almost £20M right there and he continues to hinder our progression as we cant get rid of him and free up those wages for someone more useful.  Which is strange thing to say as I'm struggling to think of how anyone could be less useful

This post is so depressing.  I hope that when you say we can't get rid of him that you are mistaken.

A small interview from tipsbladet.dk with our new Director of Sports, Allan Gaarde. He is replacing our current Director through approx 20 years, Lynge Jacobsen. He started 2 weeks of tutoring on 14th June. Google translated, hope you can read it :)

As Lynge Jakobsen and Allan Gaarde Tuesday 18 June flew to England to negotiate a Nicklas Helenius sale, the two AaB leaders thought that they figuratively would get a striker with back home.

earlier this month AaB sold Nicklas Helenius to Aston Villa and jumped on the summer Superliga trend in relation to selling players to the Premier League. But the club's new sporting director Allan Gaarde reckoned not with that sales would fall into place when he and his teacher, Lynge Jakobsen sat on the plane to Birmingham 18 June.

    - When we sat on the plane at 6:25 on Tuesday, we had no aspirations. We thought the most that we should try it, be the experience richer, and then see what would happen. We were not sure that there would be a positive outcome. It would be foolish not to spend the time and money to make the attempt. It was the beginning of the trip, said Allan Gaarde for Tipsbladet.

    - We were not sure how much they knew about Nicklas. How much would it and how much it was a wild shot. There are many suckers in this world. But when you sit face to face, so you can feel on people whether they are serious. And we could feel immediately that they had researched seriously at him. It was a player they saw a future in and wanted to sign. It gave a different climate for negotiations, and so we could try something. One of the main things I have learned on the trip is that it is bullshit to undercut or outbid, for example, that we required eight million pounds, it's incredible stupid. Rather, without being naive and stupid, rather start a realistic place. It gives a better debate.

Gaarde is glad sale but denies that it was deliberately timed for him to get a good start.

    - It was also a calculation of how much Nicklas would give us playing another season. He would get upset and demotivated, if there had been an offer from a club he wildly wanted to. If we pull it out of the equation, could he give us a good position in the league? Could he kick us in the Europa League group stage? You do not know. There are a lot of uncertainties, which could have given us extra money. But it was wishful thinking, this from Aston Villa was cash here and now, and the ones we need. It was a super trade and a good signal to our talent work. Over in the amateur division they are proud. There have been no other talk in Svenstrup in recent days that Helenius started out there. It is the fourth in a few years that have passed from our talent department for big clubs. For Premier League, Juventus, Ajax and Groningen. It's a great signal that we do not stand in the way of these young players.

Great article.  Thanks Aab, but it shows again a thoroughness with our scouting system under Lambert.
