  1. Anyway, I'm bored. Enjoy the rest of the show

Somehow I'm not the least bit surprised about this retort...there must be some cartoons on?

I genuinely don't know why you're so angry about this.

I think he played one of the Zombie extras and you missed the psychological distress of having no morality that he so subtly but superbly portrayed :)

Oh look it's one of the clique arrived to save the day! I can see what you're getting at but you have no idea at how to compose a sentence.

  2. Nor am I likely to change mine just because you throw some big words at me and tell me I've missed all these underlying philosophical and psychological scenarios (again, none of which counter anything I've said)

When you stated that the programme wasn't well-scripted I addressed the themes of psychologial, philosophy and the moral implications moulded into the fabric of the protagonists via script and dialogue.

If the programme was terribly scripted they would not discuss these issues and instead possibly discuss much more trivial matters.

Philosophy and the whole moral question is paramount to the programme and this could have been up to the viewer to draw their own conclusions and indeed it is but the characters are also discussing these matters through the script which brings the writing to the forefront.

Anyway, I'm bored. Enjoy the rest of the show

    *Only joking 'Stevo' :winkold:

  3. I haven't denied it. In fact I specifically said I agreed with the fact that it's an interesting (albeit heavily recycled) scenario. Social commentary? I guess there are elements of that. But again I wouldn't say it was anything particulalry unique to this show. But fair enough.

All I said was that the endless string of cliches, poor acting and what i perceive to be substandard dialogue was enough to put me off.

Justify my argument? What argument? It's an opinion. The cartoon reflects my thoughts on the show. That's why I posted it.

You're the one turning this into an argument. I've already said that's only my opinion, I can see why people like it, and fair enough if you do. If you disagree and see it as well scripted then fair play. That's your perception.

Maybe if I watched seasons 2 and 3 I'd change my mind. But that is unlikely to happen as I didn't enjoy the first season enough to justify watching it over other shows which I'm yet to see.

I think any Zombie TV show keen to talk psychological, philosophical and social commentary is fairly unique not wholly but it is sufficient enough.

Endless cliches? It is a Zombie TV show after all. However there are a few twists and as yet the viewers are still in the dark about many aspects of how, why etc. Now a cliche would obviously use aforesaid plot and scenario from other media in this ilk but we are yet to know full details...

You're the one turning this into an argument.

So i'm not allowed to debate with you and bring forth material as to why you are incorrect based on the aforesaid script incorporating characters and their symposium on moral obligation, philosophy and such forth? Argument, point of view, debate they are all interchangeable words to denote the nature of our communication upon this subject :D

Again, please note I am not ear-marking The Walking Dead as a piece of TV history like The Sopranos but I think you do it an injustice to say the script is poor considering the range of topics covered etc.

FWIW, the end of Season 2 redeemed itself as the beginning of the season seemed to be heading for overplaying the morality of the situation and the consequences of the characters and their actions.

  4. I'm easily pleased? Says the poster who justifies his loose and unsound argument with a particularly unfunny cartoon  But let's not degenerate this to personal attacks; i'm not suggesting this is the modern reincarnation of Harry Lime's script in The Third Man !

It's pertinent that you clearly disregard the psychological and philosophical dialogue that many of the characters have in relation to the situation they find themselves in? The deeper underlying nature of this and its social commentary is well-scripted as far as I am concerned but this is brought to the fore more so in Season 2. I guess initially they focus more on developing the plot, story etc in Season 1 and expand on the psychological nature and so forth in Season 2...

Please note I haven't expounded this is a masterclass in acting at all, but I like the scenario and there is some interesting social commentary as detailed above in relation to the script. To deny this is clearly ignoring the reality and is clearly subjective reasoning based on some opinion rather than fact.

  5. One thing the walking dead CERTAINLY was NOT, is well scripted. That's the main reason I didn't like it. The dialogue (and the acting in general) is just ridiculous.

I can see why people like it for the storyline, the plot and the action. But to me well scripted means the dialogue, and that's just appalling.

But it's all about opinions isn't it? Like there are plenty people here who don't like Mad Men. I loved it. I go along that it's slow paced, but that doesn't stop it being great. The Wire was slow paced and it's the best TV series ever made (imo of course)

Season 5 of Mad Men was a masterpiece.

I beg to differ and considering you had not watched the series in its entirety forming a sound argument on this matter is rather ironic.

However, to fill you in some of the characters in the story have severe psychological issues as reflected by the circumstances they find themselves in. As a result some characters are very troubled and hence difficult to read initially by their words (well-scripted) and inevitably by their actions.

Furthermore, at its most philosophical there are many debates as to the morality of the situation and the actions and intended or unforeseen consequences of the characters. Again like the psychologial aspects the philosophy and ethics of the situation are often fleshed out through dialogue which I personally thought was well-scripted.

Personally I thought there was some interesting social commentaries flagged up by the script which one can pick up on. Sure it's a Zombie TV programme and it is possible to disengage the brain also aswell as picking up the deeper meaning.

  6. Yeah that's a good way to sum it up.

I didn't hate it, I just didn't think it was worth spending my time watching over other things.

But then again, I watch Jersey Shore, so what the **** do I know?

 That's brain-dead TV right there...I was about to interject but alas the comment above has redeemed the debate towards the favour of Walking Dead.

Seriously though parts of Walking Dead are good and well-scripted with a few twists along the way. The first half season of Season 2 I thought it very boring but the last half was well worth hanging in there for.

The Sopranos is by far the best TV show i've seen; it's halfway through the last season on SKY Atlantic HD at the moment and I have no idea what i'm going to do without it. I missed it first time around as bizarrely I thought it would be rubbish, how wrong could one be!

  7. One cannot doubt Collins and his desire to block shots and make last ditch tackles however some ex-player noted that this usually meant a player was off the pace or slow considering a huge part of their game was reliant on last-gasp swashbuckling dives at the ball.

I would also prefer to keep Dunne than Collins and the latter is a huge part of our defensive weakness. Saying that I'm sure he'll score against us if he does leave

  8. I'm not as sold on Clark as many are, to be honest. Yes, he's got a nice touch and can do a Cryuff turn, but I don't really care about that for a CB. I think he's quite weak, a bit slow, and has a lot of learning to do at this level.

Dunne, we all know how bad (and good) he can be, so at this stage I'd say he's got to be in the starting XI.... perhaps not ideal but let's hope Lambert can get him back to his best.

And Cresswell, I've never seen him play that I can remember. Although he seems to be highly rated, and he can't be worse than Warnock. Also seems like Stevens hasn't gotten anywhere near the first team (despite the lack of competition for the place), so may have to be written off as another Eck dud.

I suppose whatever happens we're going to have a new look back four come 18/8, and I imagine it's going to be pretty nervy for the most part. What I would say is I think we should be looking at a new CB (Vlaar seems to have all-but fallen through), a new LB (hopefully Cresswell) and potentially another RB - although let's hope Lowton can do enough to secure that spot.

I think this season is Clark's time to progress, looking at some footage in the games in the States he seems to have got a bit bulkier? I think the fact he's playing regularly in pre-season means he'll be in the first XI this season with Dunne or significant other CB.

Much of the problem with our weak defence last season was due to both Dunne and Collins playing as I feel both players are too alike and often seem to get in each others way and of course Warnock who had a terrible season.

Cresswell from the talk i've seen regarding him is a ball player and comfortable in possession. Lichaj too is a neat, tidy and rather quick player.

Also and let's not forget KEA and his role to play as ball-winning, defensive and possession minded player and is the type Villa have lacked in quite some time. In a sense KEA could well signify a change in the defence and it's mentality as a result of his style. Hopefully :!:

  9. I like Marc as a player and I hope he can improve to find consistency to his game.

In over 60 appearances he has 9 goals and 8 assists, some of those goals have been great finishes. Anyone remember his performance against Manure at Villa Park, albeit we drew 2-2 but Marc was fantastic that day.

Give him some time you bunch of moaners :?

So, over 60 appearances aren't enough to form an opinion?

Yeah 9 goals and 8 assists is rather a good return considering some performances may have been from the bench!

  10. I like Marc as a player and I hope he can improve to find consistency to his game.

  11. All our youth player's are playing for a team in a top league :D.

Arguably the very best of leagues.

Marc Albrighton for example, and yes a player who divides opinion but look at his stats over 60 appearances 9 goals and 8 assists for a player still very inexperienced.

Apart from Van Pervie how many Feyenoord players have those stats in the PL and furthermore at 22 years of age?

  12. Before you were complaining about clubs poaching talents aged 16, now you want to claim people like Kalou and Bastos as Feyenoord products when you signed them from their home countries at 18?

Feyenoord does have a great academy & seems to be producing a lot the last few years, but really we have to wait and see how youth players progress. People like Drenthe & De Guzman had a lot of hype but have not lived up to it yet.

Of your list only Van Persie, Kalou & Bastos are really proven top level players and the latter two are not really Feyenoord products.

the rest are either too early in their career to judge (Castaignos, Ebecilio, Rekik, Ake, Adiyiah, Bruma) or pretty average players on about the same level as Villa products like Craig Gardner or Liam Ridgewell (Zuiverloon, Loovens, Stam).

I'm glad somebody else noticed this.

My point about the Villa players playing in one of the World's finest leagues I think was also conveniently missed. Many of those players from Feyenoord's academy are not playing regularly in the PL and indeed many still aren't achieving their potential; I guess you could say the same for Villa's academy graduates but at least some of them are playing in the PL. In many games last season Villa had five or six Academy/Youth players such as Albrighton, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Clark, Bannan, Gary Gardner, Johnson; then you can add in more recent acquisitions like Herd, Lichaj and Samir Carruthers.

  13. That doesn't really mean a lot. UK youth academies are generally very poor and the Next Gen series are an invitational tournament. Feyenoord rejected participation so that our youngsters wouldn't be in the picture as much of UK teams.

We have lost so many players because they cannot sign a contract until they are 16, it's quite ridiculous. In the last 2/3 years we've lost Bruma and Ake to Chelsea, Rekik to Man City, Ebecilio to Arsenal and Van la Parra to Caen. English academies pinch these youngsters so that they are counted as home grown because they cannot teach young kids how to play. They give their parents a cleaning job for 60k a year, pay the kid a few 100.000 a year and only have to compensate us 50/100k.

But still we have 16 of our 27 first team squad from the academy. That is not really boasting...but facts (Rafa Benitez style)

And I wansn't even mentioning recent departures like Castaignos (Inter Milan), Wijnaldum (PSV) and Fer (FC Twente) who left the club a year ago after coming through the ranks.

It's quite the contrast if you come up with Albrighton, Clark and Agbonlahor.

Not to get in a heated argument or to baost one academy is indeed bigger than the other but allow me this question: how many Feyenoord academy graduates are currently playing in arguably one of the best leagues in the world?

Barry, Cahill, Sturridge, Agbonlahor, Clark, Albrighton, Weimann, Bannan, Herd, Craig and Gary Gardner to name just a few.

  14. Early indications from me are that we've done well and we're less than 2 weeks into the window. I expect PL will know a helluva lot more when he comes back from America and it'll kick on from there :thumb:

This is the reasonable scenario. PL has had one week to assess the squad but he really needs to see them play and then he will conclude on what we need after a few matches have been played.

It's crazy to suggest that after one week wth the team and still yet to see them play that PL should be signing his quota of players!

  15. smoking the shisha pipe?....those pictures were on fan forums everywhere sparking debates about his lifestyle and bad attitude....

So when is smoking a shisha pipe an example of an individual having a bad attitude and questionable lifestyle? Everything in moderation is the key to balance...

There are many footballers who smoke cigarettes i've known a few myself over the years; Joachim Löw permitted his Deutschland team to smoke during the tournament and it is rumoured that Mr. Rooney is quite partial to a smoke or two!

*Please note I do not smoke but I just took issue with the aforesaid ludicrous statement!
