  1. Not the greatest of games and Villa's inability to hold on to the ball was a worry...

I was praising Douglas Luiz before the game so sorry about that because he had a bit of a stinker.

Chelsea are a good team yet quite a horrible, Pochettino was moaning all through the game and I guess it influences their players too.

*edit, by the way the commentary team were awful on the live broadcast; just willing Chelsea to win the game throughout the whole match. Anyone else think it was biased?

I admire your faith and belief, anything is possible, right! And imagine, Brother, that sweet satisfaction should that happen. So much so, that I would bathe in its residue, if that's ok with you. 😉

Indeed I mentioned this consistently last season when many thought Europe was unlikely; my opinion was Unai Emery wouldn't have been so negative.

And neither is he now, the mantra is to win every game and let's see what happens.

  3. Luiz must go straight back in to the team.

    47 matches, 10 goals, 10 Assists, 59 Chances Created

He's still at 90% passing accuracy....highest in the Villa team.

Total Passes: 2600 Passes Completed: 2328   Pass Accuracy: 90%

    What about this season?

We could if we win the rest of our games.  It's not impossible that Liverpool don't get another win, they've completely fell apart the last few weeks and Klopp looks like he's just given up.

They'll drop down a peg or two now, they don't have the quality to compete with City and Arsenal and FSG won't spend big, it was Klopp that had them up there.  They'll drop down to fighting for a CL spot with us and Spurs, and probably United and Newcastle.

I was just about to post that idea. If they continue to drop points then, you never know.

Careful, some don't like this positivity....

    But I do, I'm a Believer mate...

Mate you're the one who came at me calling me defeatist and a non believer and deluded.

And then moaned about name calling and saying you wouldn't criticise people :D

Anyway let's leave it there. we're derailing the thread. You can PM me if you want to carry on

I didn't call YOU defeatist at all...it was the rhetoric on the thread...

It was someone else who made the comment about third yet you didn't go after them like you did me; I merely agreed with them that it would be nice....

Liverplop could implode, likewise Villa are on a good run...it's possible....

But it's possible. So surely we should be believing? Or we're defeatist right?

That's up to you, i'm not going to criticise you at all...I was talking about third...

    Go for it.

I'm super chilled. And I'm very positive, and I think we'll have a great run in. I think Emery approaches every game believing we can win and I'm behind that 100%

None of that changes by me pointing out we won't finish 3rd

You were the one who started labelling people defeatist or non-believers because they pointed out an improbability. So the bit in bold is quite funny

As I said it's a good job Emery doesn't share that same defeatist attitude...

Nobody said it wasn't possible. Of course it's possible.

It's also possible that we can win the league. But nobody is saying we are because people recognise it's highly improbable that that will happen.

Blindly believing something will happen when it almost certainly won't doesn't make you some sort of better fan. And people who recognise how unlikely the outcome is aren't defeatist. That's just bullshit better fan bollocks

Also it's never so matter of fact, one person might feel differently and it doesn't have to resort in name-calling or mentioning the better fan theory...

Just chill and we'll see what happens; if Plop continue to falter and Villa maintain form third is of course a super long-shot but you never know...

This is why I said you can bet Unai Emery believes, you aren't going to tell him any differently; many said the same last year saying Europe wasn't on and I was saying Emery was always positive.

    Not really.

I'm the one who is saying we won't finish 3rd. I was also the one who even as far back as February, when everyone was crying and saying we'd finish behind Man Utd, was doing the maths and telling everyone they wouldn't get anywhere near us.

So the implication that I'm saying we won't finish 3rd because I'm defeatist or not a believer is bollocks.

I'm saying it because it's mathematically (highly) improbable.

    Good for you...

Whilst it's possible I'm happy to believe it is possible also, much the same a s the European run last season when people had that same defeatist attitude.

  10. 3 minutes ago, Stevo985 said:

Well seeing as it's me saying this and last season I never said europe wasn't on, this is bollocks isn't it :)

It's not a defeatist attitude to point out that something has a very very very low chance of happening.
I pointed out months ago that Man Utd had a very very low chance of catching us, so was that blind optimism?

Do you think we're going to win the league? Because if you don't that's defeatist because it's mathematically possible

There were quite a few saying this last season to be fair....

I'm assuming those older players would have gone through modern training regimes in my selections.

Pele and George Best as was would be unfit and out of their depth in a straight swap into the modern game, but they were generational talents, the best of the best and if they went through modern training regimes they would obviously be far better players than they were then.

Perhaps adding that as a caveat to the question posed may have resulted in a different response on my part....

It is only theory and conjecture, nothing more.

  12. Gidman and Mortimer just a tad before my time...

But No I wouldn't swap at all....players are fitter, stronger, quicker than ever before.

Skill and technique will get you so far but the game is so different now.

  13. A story caught my eye today and had me worried regarding Bayern Munich possibly looking at luring Emery.

I'd like to think he'd stay here and especially if Villa get Champions League football next season. Surely Emery is invested here at Villa now, the connection with Monchi, Real Union and even his Son (Lander) now a Villan too.

  14. I think many were harsh on Bailey, myself included...

In hindsight he had injuries and an imbecile (Gerrard) as a manager, didn't really help many of the players really.

Love that video clip of him by the way. Hope his knee is okay?
