Personally I thought he did well to keep that out of the net. The hatred for Nyland is making Kalinic expectations go through the roof, what did we call it on here? the Carlos Gil effect? The more someone doesnt play the better they get.. He hasnt even made his debut yet and people who never seen him play are expecting him to be the answer to all our defensive problems.
I just hope Kalinic doesnt make a mistake in his first few games, because with the fans on his back there will be no coming back from it. Suddenly that 5 year contract will seem like a life prison sentence.
I agree. The lack of patience that some people have now is ridiculous. It is also counter productive. We need to have reasonable expectations and let people settle in. It is unlikely that we will get top 2 but we will make the play offs. Hopefully by then we will be nearing our peak if we support the coaches and players.

I suppose we will see. Just because you think we will I have very, doesn't mean we will. Small sample size, played some tough teams, etc. But his record, I imagine, isn't much different to Bruce. Yes, we score more goals, but the outcome is the same.
Of course I want things to improve, and I think they will. But that doesn't change the fact in his short time here, he's thrown away plenty of points, a number of those being late on.
Think you need to have a word with yourself if you think everyone has to share your narrow minded view that he can do no wrong. All bad = players fault, all good = Dean Smith.
What narrow minded view? Read my post again. I do not say he can do no wrong. Of course he has made mistakes. He is a human being. He will make many more. He is brave enough to highlight these however and try to do something about it.
He deserves our patience. He has only been in the job for five minutes. Let’s see where we are in 12 months time. Shortism is killing our club.

Bruce P11 Goals scored 19 Goals conceded 18
Smith P11 Goals scored 25 Goals conceded 17
We have actually kept 4 clean sheets under Smith too so that is 17 goals conceded in 7 games compared to only 1 clean sheet under Bruce
Still exactly the same problems, Sure we are winning a few more games and it's more exciting but the "we can't defend so we'll just attack" mentality has to change at some point as it is costing us dearly. We also seem to have gone from picking up points from last minute goals to throwing points away to last minute goals which is rather concerning
Look at the fixtures though. Bruce had 11 simple matches. All of Smiths have been tougher games. Let’s see how we get on when we get the return fixtures for those Bruce games. That is what is screwing us. We could not have had an easier first 11 games and we messed it up. Our 3 years in this league have been ruined by bad starts.
We can still do it though and we need to get behind the manager and the players.

It's not good enough. I was hoping Smith's nativity would disappear after a few of these, but it seems not.
Hopefully he starts to learn how to close games out before its too. Auto promotion is now good, could be playoffs before long at this rate too.
We're so open and easy to run at its embarrassing. But oh well, we get the odd score draw now!
Have a word with yourself mate. If you cannot see the improvement then you do not understand football. We have played some really tough games and you could make an argument for us winning all of them. You cannot blame the manager for poor luck and mistakes.
Patience is what we need. For the first time in a generation we appear to have an intelligent coaching staff and an intelligent board. Do not underestimate the importance of that. Unfortunately we don’t yet have an intelligent team but that will come. Watching Villa these past few weeks has, at times, been an absolute joy. Work still to do? Of course but surely you can see that for the first time in years we are on an upward trajectory. Stick with it and enjoy the ride.

Surely it’s time for JT to dust off his boots! We need his calming influence and leadership.
Am I the only person who thinks that Chester is pretty crap?!

Decent squad player but no more. Missed Jack today. CH us bang average

I categorically did not want this man as our manager. I am an idiot. Most enjoyable football since BFR

Our defence is clearly not the best but half of the problem is that they get absolutely no protection from midfield. Most of the goals conceded were due to midfield failures before defensive ones.
For years we have needed a good defensive midfielder. We have purchased loads but none of them have been up to it. We are at our best defensively when Thor plays there but he is also not the answer. I wonder whether Smith thinks JDH could do a job there which is why he was on the bench the other day?
Anyway, I for one will rejoice when we finally solve this problem. It seems to have been around forever.

Best player so far this season. He really is a great player. I think he could be captain when we get back to the prem. He reminds me of Super Andy Townsend. Love him
-
I was against Smith. I thought he was too inexperienced. He really looks to be proving me wrong and I could not be happier. Go on Deano. Keep it up son!

Really pleased for him today.
I was calling for us to be patient with him last week and got pretty much slaughtered. I really feel that he can be good for us but he needs our support. A few more days like today will really help him but let’s not be so quick to get on his back again the next time he makes a mistake.

Yep I noticed that too. Didnt sound vwey impressed with him. I have to say he was utter shit. What the **** was he doing giving them a free corner when there was no one near him and he could havw just given us a goal kick?
It's like he plays with cement in his gloves. Rubbish shit and the worst I've seen at our club
Obviously not seen Bunn then.......Get a grip. We won ffs! Also, maybe google supporter/support/empathy/patience/over reaction!!!!!!!!
Come on man. We won. He did at least one good save. He is improving. Give him a chance!

If it is confidence then more damning if you don't have the confidence to make the most basic of catches at home to Bolton in the Championship then don't show up for work in the morning.
Blimey. You must be hard as nails. Do you really never have doubts in your own ability? If you do, imagine having those doubts in front of 30,000 people and many millions watching on tv! Of course confidence is a factor.

Much, much better. Good man

He really doesn't.
He will be replaced in january.
Fair enough. Do you care to back that up? We have become a joke of a club who make our minds up at the drop of a hat! Look where that has got us? Yep.........nowhere!
Generally we have the best fans in the world but we really, myself included, let ourselves down in certain areas. We need to pull together to try and change our fortunes. I have played football at a reasonably high level. I am a goal keeper. In my view, this kid is worth supporting.

Best game of the season so far. My motm. Well done Jacko

I really did not want Smith to get the job. I thought it was a huge risk appointing him. I have however been positively surprised so far. Keep it up Dean. On the right track

The 2 he dropped the ball he palmed out for a corner, the shocking scuffed kick in the last 10 minutes, the ball played through in the last 10 where he just stood on his line.
Yes, I cannot stand the guy. He takes no responsibilty whether it is claiming or coming and closing the angles or being big. If I am in a team I want everyone beside me to take some responsibilty, he doesn't. He passes the buck. Constantly.
Ok. So the two dropped balls. Do you really think that an international keeper is incapable of making those catches or do you think that it may just be confidence?
Not sure I even know what the other two you are talking about are but they do not sound like fundamental errors! Add them up they only come to four not six! Maybe your pre conceived perceptions are actually getting in the way of reality! Give the kid a chance. He does enough good things to deserve our support. Of course, if he is still making these mistakes in 12 months then fair enough but he has only been in the country for 5 minutes.
When I was 22 I went to work in Spain. I was useless for 6 months whilst I got to grips with the change. Thankfully all of my mess ups were not shown over and over on tv! After 6 months, when I had settled and gained my confidence I was a different person. Bit of patience required please

A game where he has had next to nothing to do and he has still made about half a dozen fundamental errors. Seriously who the **** scouted him?
I am sorry to pick you out but I am sick of the rubbish being spouted against this guy ( and others). Please name the fundamental 6 errors that he made. That is utter rubbish. He made two from memory (both of which were confidence only). He also made a couple of good saves. Do you not count those?

He played well today. His confidence is growing. We need to get behind him. Fair play.

Nyland has not played that badly at all in the last few games. Lots of people gave him motm against Swansea! He is clearly lacking confidence which can happen when starting a new job in a new country. Add to that the fact that he has never had a settled defence to work with and those that have played have often been less than assured! Taking this into account it is no surprise that he is struggling a bit.
He needs some empathy and support. He also needs a settled defence in front of him. I am encouraged that Smith seems to be sticking with a formation and a first choice team. This can only assist everyone in my view. We need to stop this disposable approach to expensive assets. He is our first choice goalkeeper. Let’s support him and give him a proper chance. In my view we need to give him the season and actually get behind him instead of just getting on his back. We are called supporters after all!

Not a cat in hells chance we are going to average just under 2 points over the next 10 games.
Why not? We are well capable of putting a run together. I am expecting a big performance next Friday. It could be the spring board for a run of wins. There really aren’t any good teams in this league.
-
I don’t care who we sign as long as they improve the first 11. If they don’t I do not want us to sign anybody. I am sick of years of scatter gun signings.
Our terrible performance in the transfer market is the major contributor to our current situation in my view. No risks, no projects just instant improvement or stick with what we have!

Pleased for him. He looks like a proper player to me. Hope he nails down a starting place.
