Though I'm not convinced about us signing anyone else this summer, a buddy of mine has suggested we might be looking at a defender from Ajax and a striker on loan from City.
Can only assume that would be Toby Alderweireld as he is versatile and Edin Dzeko as, well that's pretty self explanatory.
-
Why would Lambert come here if he had just £6m or so to spend? I have to hope that Lambert is just taking his time and assessing who he wants both coming in and leaving.
Why spend £3m on an unknown RB if the budget was only double that?
He hasn't had 6 million, he's had about £8.5million and a freebie in Holman. (though not his choice)
He wouldn't have just come here based on the summer transfer kitty available. What about the fact this is an opportunity to manage Aston Villa, a step up from where he was before, and I'm assuming, a better salary than what he was on previously.
-
I think we should brace ourselves for a few hidings until lambert has had the time and cash he badly needs.
The villa job is a really difficult one.
Agreed. Though I don't think we will be signing anymore this summer. Next year could be a gooden though.
We will finish between 10th and 15th I recon.

Man City have had a bid accepted by Everton for Rodwell. Wouldn't be surprised if Johnson is involved in the deal somewhere.
-
I think we will be going with what we have got unfortunately. I just don't believe we have the money available to go out and sign the players that people are hoping for, or buying for the amount of positions they are hoping we sort out.
We're done for this summer. It's been fairly good though.
Seriously, you think?
I don't want to dampen the feel good factor of Lambert joining, but you have to admit IF we don't add any more faces this window, then it will have been a pretty shit set of transfers considering what we had hoped for/expected/need!
I'm not taking away from who we've brought in (I actually think that they are all good aquistions) but it's not enough - neither from a quantity nor quality point of view.
I think we will be fine with what we have. We're not going to win the league, nor are we going to be fighting for 4th... but we will be 'fine' this season.
Based on what PL has been saying, and what the players have said about the camp at the moment, i think we will be going with what we have. We have made another new signing this season - but no one has mentioned it yet... This season, we have 'Spirit' in the side... something we severely lacked last season.
Lets see how we get on and then improve next season after yet another transitional period has finished. It would be great to have a manager for more than one season.
Quite why people are saying we will be spending £8million+ on a player is ridiculous - we have no money.

I think we have a new winner!

I would think so. As I said before, the Lerners have been enormously generous to the city of Cleveland, and despite Al's role in facilitating the move to Baltimore, he's also the guy that brought football back.
I really wanted some sort of connection between the two groups of supporters as well, but unfortunately I don't think Cleveland is one of the hotbeds of burgeoning 'soccer' support in America. I've been living in the South for some 20 years now, and got involved with the sport through my kids. I'm not sure how active youth soccer is back in Ohio, as we were all mad for (American) football growing up and Ohio is still one of the major talent beds for the American version.
It would have been interesting to have had the Columbus Crew on Villa's US tour, as they play only 2 hours away from Cleveland. Might've been an opportunity to build some bridges.
Anyway, I know I'm with the Villa for the long haul. They're my club, thick or thin, and always will be.
(I have told the wife that one day we will be taking a trip to Birmingham to see a Villa game, so we'll see...)
I think we did play Columbus Crew a couple of seasons ago didn't we in our last tour?
That's fair enough re the Browns fans not really wanting to link up in that sorta way, you can't force Football onto anyone. I have been interested in American Football for a little while, just don't really understand it. Haha. (and by interested I mean I have watched a couple of Superbowl's and the games that are played in London- all whilst wondering what the actual **** is going on)
I don't understand why Al was so instrumental in the move from Cleveland to Baltimore - surely that was more Modell at the time? It's funny how then after all of that Al Lerner then went ahead and brought the Browns of the NFL for a record amount? Do you recon he influenced Modell somehow to move on so he could create a 'New Browns' but it didn't really pay off as they have struggled to win?
I don't recall Villa playing the Crew recently, but I may have missed it...when was Villa's last US tour?
As to Lerner's involvement in the move, he was a minority partner with Modell at the time and the deal to relocate to Baltimore was actually struck on Lerner's private jet. Did he do it with the forethought of stepping in as the new owner? I don't think anyone could know, but it seems logical. Keep in mind, though , that there were several potential ownership groups bidding for the Browns, so there was always the possibility of Lerner not getting the team.
It's hard to imagine it given the struggles of the team the last 13 years, and the drop from relevance (under Randy's watch, one has to say), but the Browns remain a very valuable property. Deep down the league wants a winner in Cleveland to renew the storied Steelers/Browns rivalry (although Baltimore has certainly supplanted Cleveland in this), and awake the sleeping giant. Plus, the continued fan support, despite over a decade of futility has demonstrated that we're not going away. (It's a sickness, I know).
I think the new owner, having been a minority investor in the Steelers, has a strong sense of the potential value of a winning team in Cleveland.
So the browns did totally start up again when Al brought the team in 98? How did they recruit playing staff in that first season? Im just trying to understand I guess why I see some fans saying it has been 13 years since we have won anything (browns fans) but from the sounds of it you started as a brand new time only just before the turn of the new millennium and yet still be worth $1billion. Sure that still includes your history/achievements etc but... That's an incredible figure?
A link would have been awesome for the fans and would have wanted to go across to do that. How do you think the managers we sent over would have got on or if any of our players went over, what do you think the reaction would have been like?

Its clearly Rory Delap.
Is he the dude who has a long throw?
-
allison stokke ladsWhile we're here though...Unfortunately not at the olympics.
Before we go back to speculations...... who is this?
I would also be interested in knowing this information.
I would love to replicate the scene in my avatar with her without the banana of course.
Shillz I'm assuming you was referring to her age whilst sporting that Newport top? How old there?

What's happaned at Malaga I havnt been following their situation?
-
This situation is strange though, cuz when Lerner sells the Browns we will lose that connection with the fans from across the pond. From the sounds of what I have read in some of the forums (and by the sounds of what Cerberus has said, not the best ones) that wouldnt matter to the Browns fans anyway. I'm a little disappointed about it though.
I was hoping there might be a thing where Browns fans can come over here and watch a game, and likewise Villa fans head on over to Cleveland to take in an NFL game. That was my dream. Haha.
Cerberus when the deal to sell the Browns goes through will they still keep the street name in honour of Alfred Lerner do you recon?
-
^^
Hah!!
Interesting post Copey11 thanks for sharing.
What I do not understand is why are Browns fans so pissed off with us in all of this? Its not as if we are currently high flying and winning trophies left right and center is it.
Is it really a case of Randy having purchased Villa himself and so cares more as PF has suggested in recent comments he made?
-
Haha... Check out the music video and the response video from Browns forum about Mr Lerner. Quite funny.
Can't believe it is already pretty much a done deal at a $Billion
-
Fair enough. Ta.
Delfouneso out on loan then? Or sold?
Who do we recon this striker might be? all very exciting isn't it?
.......anybody else thinking some of the Danish women's handball players look a little bit fit?
-
What was said about us getting a new striker in??
-
Who said what about a possible striker purchase?
Sturridge would be pretty sexual if we brought him in to join a strike force of Bent, Gabby and Weimann. Delfouneso needs to get out on loan and really prove himself or be sold next season. I hope he can prove himself.
-
Well done Richard for getting it right - though would you agree this one was down to luck over anything else? Let's be fair, there was nothing happening last week and we have been able to turn it around today after the tour.
Now...., I would also like some praise - I announced 2/3 weeks ago that the next signing we make will have a vowel, closely followed by a consonant in their name... Sooooooo. Yea!!! Get in!
-
I think we should partner up with the Fire. By all accounts it sounds as though everybody had a right good time in Chicago. what would such a partnership mean though for both sides do you recon?
-
Gosh people are Westminster Crabby today! It's the Olympics for crying out loud! Calm down... Everyone should be happy
Hope we sign this guy - I think everyone can see Warnock is ready to continue with his Mentor training of new LBs for club and country.
-
It's obviously Heskey. Jewell managed Wigan, Heskey played for Wigan... Paul Lambert would have net him at Villa or knew of his situation at least...Heskey is now free and they probs wanted confirmation, or an idea how much he was earning etc etc...
It is SO obviously not Heskey it is untrue!
Lambert never managed Heskey, Jewel has managed him so why on earth would he ask Lambert about him?
Besides the article quotes Jewel saying that it is a player Lambert formerly managed!!!
Anyway why are people even talking about this? Who cares who Ipswich are interested in???
He's talking to him to get the low down of his situation and stuff!
Read this paragraph again and point out where it says it is a player Lambert used to manged for me....
PJ -"Chris spoke to Paul Lambert on Tuesday to ask about a player who used to play for a club that I used to manage and he never mentioned Aaron Cresswell, which I found strange," he said.
....but I agree who cares what's happening with him.

Not with Villa he isn't. Tbf this is the probs the first time he has ever suggested stuff to me. He's an Arsenal fan.
