My point is that I'm not a "fair weather fan". Our position in the league has absolutely nothing to do with my decision to buy a season ticket or not.

It's your assumptions I take umbrage with.

It's actually much harder for me to stay away than to blindly follow.

No. It's all purely semantics. You have decided to vote with your feet because you are not happy with Lerner. You believe the Club will fair better with him gone. I fully understand that & you make that perfectly clear. I am not questioning your integrity as a Villa fan.

However, your terms of support (neither rightly or wrongly) are not unconditional. To underline once more this is not a criticism but merely an observation. As you state, staying away for you is actually much harder so the reality here as I see it is that by staying away you are doing your self more harm than good which is entirely your prerogative.

You're clearly an intelligent and thoughtful man with the ability to reason and understand. So I guess what I was getting at is, try to extend that courtesy to everybody. Your enthusiasm is appreciated but occasionally comes across as condescending.

In the words of Joe Cocker. "Please don't let me be misunderstood."

Any way to any Villa fan on this site. If for whatever reason I have mistakenly given you the impression that I or any other Villa supporter for that matter is a better fan than you I apologise unreservedly & I thank don't- do- it- doug for his common sense & sagacious observations.

Take a bow ddid Take a bow! :)

So pleased with yesterday's result and the fact that we are pretty much safe but one result will not change my desire to see a change of manager.

Or to buy a season ticket.

I won't be buying a season ticket until Lerner has gone. Same as with Ellis, I'm voting with my feet.

No doubt that makes me "less than" in your eyes, but frankly, I couldn't care less. I love my club, I just can't see her right now. I'm doing what I think is right by her and it's not up to you to judge how I show my affection.

My decision has nothing to do with Lambert. I've sat through much worse than him.

Right. To start off with don't -do-doug I believe yours is a terrific post. It is not a question of anybody being a better fan than anybody else. I accept totally that people quite rightly make their own decisions & judgments as to whether they wish to purchase anything as long as they are able to afford it.

What I am saying though, & this is my point, (which I am also allowed ) there are supporters who will follow the Villa unconditionally. These types of supporters are normally labelled Hard core. Then their are supporters who only become interested in attending when the product they are purchasing is giving them the satisfaction they demand. If Villa are under performing & playing poorly they hold the club to ransom & with hold their physical support. These are normally labelled `Fair Weather Fans."

So. To confirm. There are hardcore Villa fans, there are fair weather Villa fans, there are Lambert lovers, there are Lambert haters, there are Lerner & Lambert lovers, there are Lerner & Lambert haters, their are Lambert lovers but Lerner haters & vice versa but ultimately every single category is an Aston Villa fan in their own right.

I am not claiming anybody is a better fan than anyone else because they are not.

I am merely pointing out and expressing an observation.

Please people before you rush to judgement please don't deny that you have never heard of fair weather fans because every single club has them.

This doesn't make them any less of a supporter.

Hope that puts this particular element of the Paul Lambert debate to bed.

Is 67 goals over 9 years good enough?

I agree largely with OBE but when you look at players like lukaku who has scored almost the same amount as gabby over 9 years within 5 years and is only 20 years old, when you look at Benteke who has scored 73 over 7 years and is only 23 years old, hell, even Grant Holt had scored 80-90 after 10 years.

I like Gabby, admire his loyalty but he isn't a great, I don't think he'd have survived at another club and he should be on the bench from now on.

While I agree his goal scoring rate isn't good I don't really think its fair comparing him to players who have scored a large portion of their goals in inferior or lower leagues.

Also unlike the players mentioned gabby hasn't played as a main central striker for 3/4 years. How many of the current squad have shown they're good enough to play week in week out for a team challenging top 4? Gabby has and I'd hope he's part of whatever rebuild happens this summer.

BJ10 - I've actually found a post of yours that I totally agree with.

Do we both need to go & consult a Doctor  or a psychiatrist? ;)

To the 2500 Villa fans at Palace & all those who wanted Lambert out & failed to back him...

If you stuck to your idiosyncratic support of Lambert then it would be fine but your ceaseless digs at other Villa fans who fail to measure up to your standards are beyond the pale.

No. It is fully justified because fans love to have a dig at Lambert even when he is being positive but they can't accept anyone having a dig at them when they are being negative.

Also, the fans react emotionally, which is fine, because they, like you & me only want success for our heroes. My point remains however that those fans were/ are wrong.

To their credit some have actually come on VT & held their hands up.

There is nothing wrong with admitting you were wrong.

Also. NB   I am wrong a lot of the time too & have no problem admitting it.

I firmly believe I am right on this occasion though.

To the 2500 Villa fans at Palace & all those who wanted Lambert out & failed to back him in his hour of need or to recognise his fabulous managerial qualities, credentials & latent  potential despite injuries to key personnel scuppering his & our development I've baked a cake for you.

So. Feel free to help your selves  & as you can see I have already taken a slice of it too as being humble tastes great.

I will not reveal my source but I have it on good authority that Randy Lerner has had talks with both a prospective American buy out or a potential Russian oil Billionaire.

It is common knowledge that it all depends on whether we stay in the premiership or not.

Watch what now develops in the very near future & you will see this is right.

we know that from the start mate.

    Not about the Russian Billionaire/

Or have I already missed something?

My source is a former player.

  10. I will be renewing in the next few days.

While I understand those who have financial constraints or who cannot make it work but I have never understood those who withhold their support for no other reason only saying "I will not attend or renew":

"until ...... Ellis..., O'Leary, McLeish, Lambert goes" - in fact they piss me off!

I remember standing on the Holte in November 1968, when we were at our lowest ebb, playing Preston when there were just over 13, 000 other lonely fans in VP. We lost 0-1 and went to the very bottom of Division 2. As we walked away from the ground it felt like a funeral march - we were doomed as far as everyone was concerned and it felt like our club way dying.

However the thought of NOT turning up for the next home game never crossed my mind or I am sure the other 13,000+

We couldn't see an end to the shit times but we were not going to walk away. Within a relatively few years we started to see great times and the fair weather fans and glory hunters flooded back claiming never to have been away.

IMHO Aston Villa Football Club is all that matters and who the manager, owner or players are at any given time, makes not a jot of difference to my feelings for the club. Obviously I wish we were more successful now, but it has been such an incredibly important part of my life for decades coming only second to my family.

It has lost me jobs, got me in trouble with the old bill, cost me £tens of thousands, landed me in hospital, spoiled many a weekend but also enabled me to travel all over the UK and Europe and at times made me happy beyond measure.

I said it before and I'll say it again "support your club through thick and thin". I have a good & interesting life beyond Villa, but my club is like my family and I will never walk away.

What a magnificent post & my sentiments entirely.

Your posts are really illogical and I'm sure you are posting at times for effect.

    "At times"??????  :D

Nice one Briny Ear. On that happy note I'm off to bed.

    Sweet dreams VT. :);):P:D

  12. I hope we can shut this thread tomorrow. That would be nice! Surley we can scrape one goal and park the bus for a win?

I've had a word with Centro & they have promised a number 7 bus at  3:30pm tomorrow.

    Fingers crossed. ;):)

VillaRevolution. Surely Lambert would be concerned if fans are not renewing their tickets? If he wants the best for the club he would want as many supporters as possible, he wouldn't want people to stop attending.

I'm pretty sure Lambert would be concerned about losing fans but he owes fans who have turned their backs on him absolutely nothing & certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over them, nor should he. As stated. They haven't bought into him he hasn't bought into them. That makes them both equal as I see it.

If the fans can slag Paul Lambert then the fans themselves can also be slagged.

    Equal rights for all surely!

Your posts are really illogical and I'm sure you are posting at times for effect.

Paul Lambert is an employee of Aston Villa football club. His job is to get the best results for the club and by doing so appeasing the fans. The fans may not have bought into him, but they have bought into his employers Aston Villa, the club that they support and have poured their heart and souls into. Therefore Paul lambert should care that he is losing those fans.

I have no problems with anyone still wanting Paul Lambert as manager, that is their prerogative and I am happy to have a reasonable conversation about why they think he is still the right man. But I find it ridiculous that you try and blame the fans for all the down falls, yet you actually can't put forward a reasonable defence of Lambert apart from that he is being hounded out.

No. I have no problem with the fans other than the fact that they & not Paul Lambert have lost the plot in recent weeks.

If you want a very good chance of having at least something to be cheerful about, just bet on a Fulham win.

That way you'll probably either win some money or see Villa safe this weekend. And if Villa defy the odds and actually beat the mighty Hull while Fulham are winning at Stoke, you could even get both.

I said "probably"... surprise results for Norwich and/or Cardiff could still leave you out of pocket and depressed.

How about just turning up and supporting your club rather than suggesting fans be gambling fodder?

He makes a good point though - it's always good to take out an insurance bet. I'll win hundreds if we go down although that's obviously one bet I don't want to win.

I sincerely hope you lose Mantis & I know that's want you also sincerely want too.

    Balls to William Hills, :P

  15. No. You are either an Aston Villa supporter unconditionally or you are not.

In the great words of poster mantis to coin a phrase you can't be either black or white on this subject.

    There is no grey area.

    You decide

& don't give me excuses or dress it up any other kind of way.

    Villa till I/we die.

    You better believe it.

  16.

No, Kozak can't be "plan B". The point I am making is that Benteke is so good that it is OK just to put him on the pitch, make sure he gets a regular supply of the ball, and he does the rest. There isn't much need for tactics etc. Kozak may be good (too early to judge) but it's clear he doesn't have that sort of quality, so Lambert actually needs to manage and devise a system for winning games when Tekkers isn't fit or on form.

Why can't he be plan B he isn't the same type of player. Maybe plan B was to play him as a target man with wingers? You don't know as he had hardly got going before he got injured. I also think Benteke could play off him as he has done for Belgium. We have also played loads of different systems so there's more than just one way unfortunately we are crap at most of them but that's a different argument!

Not sure I can explain my point any more clearly. I think your last sentence is actually making the same point as as me (see bolded bit), so I suspect you agree with me but just don't know it.  :)

I suspect every one agrees with me but they just don't know it yet. Lambert in. :)

    The bloke really is desperate

Squawking all the time to the local press he never used to release this many press statements

Damed if he does, damed if he doesnt eh?

Damned if he doesn't what? Were talking about an article where he's basically complaining about pressure and we don't know how hard he works etc etc, like hes pleading with the thousands now singing we want lambert out every week.

For me theres a clear change in lambert's attitude in pressers, why is debatable but its definitely there imo.

Imagine if it was a case of 35,000 plus demanding we want Cliffy Biro out.

Do you see where I am coming from with this?

I have nothing against you personally but surely you can see that this must hurt.

Lambo's okay & he's a fine man. He has tried his best in really difficult circumstances & he really deserves credit, as do those posters on VT who recognise this fact.

  18. Paul Lambert insists the players do the lap of appreciation because it is for the fans.

This underlines both the class & the bravery of the man.

No hiding away but meeting it head on.

Do the fans deserve this accolade?

For loyalty? Yes. For those blaming Lambert? No. No. No. A thousand times no.

Take a bow Lambert son. Take a bow!

  19.

The day after we lost 7-1 to Chelsea under MON I renewed my season ticket.

Now after our 4-1 reverse at Swansea I shall get myself down to Villa Park tomorrow to renew again.

I will follow the Villa till the day I die.

Whatever division we are in I will always be there but obviously I hope it will always be in the top flight.

I can never understand the mentality of fans threatening not to renew. By walking away from us how is that ultimately going to benefit the team or the club.

My message to fellow fans is renew, renew, renew.

Or maybe people have a life outside of villa?

That thought probably never even crossed his mind.

Because it seems totally illogical that any body would even contemplate turning their back on the club they profess to love.

If you don't wish to follow the Villa keep on walking & take your criticism with you.

This may be too much for you too comprehend but following the Villa is not just about buying a season ticket.

Actually no. It is not beyond my comprehension. There are many world wide Villa fans on this site who would love to visit Villa park every single match to offer up their undying & fanatical support. Posters like Kwan, Crackpot Foreigner & p3te for example would jump at the chance to do this  if the opportunity was right on their door step. i presume you are local but I may be mistaken. However, It appears to me that your alleged support for Aston Villa is conditional & that you are basically holding the club you purport to support to ransom. Basically it is perform to my satisfaction or I just don't want to know. Personally I think you are a closet glory hunter but if you want to come out that's fine. This is a modern world & you will be more than welcome to purchase a season ticket at Man City, Chelsea or even Wolverhampton Wanderers now that they have shown signs of life.

As Bill Shankly once said, Football is more important than life or death.

To me that sums up the meaning of Aston Villa FC precisely & succinctly.

    Viva La Revolution
