If there isn't a takeover now this will be among the worst sports club PR I've ever seen in my life.

To allow fans emotions to run wild with speculation of some of the world's richest men buying us and have no takeover at all, when he could have come out at any stage and stopped the speculation would be an absolute disaster and would destroy any goodwill people have left toward the current administration.

Just how bad a PR cock up it would be if there were no takeover now is probably the only thing keeping me hopeful that there will be a takeover. Lerner isn't an idiot and sport as a business is about selling hope. If he comes out on Monday and says business as usual he will crush the fan base, but only because he's allowed speculation to go crazy.

Yes - But could it be a mis calculation on Lerners part. What he might have meant to say was "theres always an of season review - where those sort things will be discused'" - where as his actual words "I will make a statement on my own position at the end of the season" ......ergo we got "My position is the results on the field are not acceptable - Ive taken steps to address that [sacks manager]".

When I first seen Lerners statement my initial reaction was that a 2nd statement clarifying his position - would follow about 30 minutes later ......I just wonder if he couldn't be bothered, or we are in his thoughts so little - he's not given us much thought since....

I really think the whole thing stems from a bit of lost in transalation..

The whole thing is purely based on semantics.

Exegisists have had a field day.

It is not Randy Lerner's fault if others misinterpret his statements & then fly off wildly & quixotically into fantasy.

People make what they want of it & do.

    Absolutely

But it may be Randy Lerner or Paul Faulkner's job to deal with the fallout of crushed supporter expectation.

    Or euphoria.

Which ever, they will obviously deal with it accordingly as they deem appropriate whether to the fans liking or not.

Fortunately/unfortunately that is their prerogative & we as fans have just simply got to live with it.

  3. Well you have changed your tune. I thought you knew exactly what parameters Lambert had to work under as you and so many others are quite often so fond of telling me about them!

No one's changed there tune only you asked some one else to change their record. I don't personally know the intricacies of the parameters set by Randy Lerner for Paul Lambert. What I do know is that Randy is both cognisant & satisfied that he has fulfilled this obligation & that will do for me.

  4.

Genuinely think some of you are going to be in for a real shock if you think that there is actually a manager out there that could do much better than Lambert has given the injuries and suffocating restraints he has had to work under.

    Change the record.

This 'there is not another manager out there that could do better than Lambert under the current constraints' line is really starting to become tiresome.

There are many managers in the world (yes, I said the world not just the UK) that could do better than Lambert.

As we don't know what parameters have been set for PL to work under your conclusion is purely hypothetical.

Could Ancellotti or SAF eg have done any better? We simply don't know & because of this they may even have faired even worse.

As things stand right now Paul Lambert is the best Manager to progress & develop Aston Villa FC. He has laid the ground work, been set back by injuries & just needs a little bit more time & patience to propel us forward & hopefully with better finance being made availabe a chance to buy a few more gems like Benteke.

Which Manager is better placed than Paul Lambert to knows what's actually needed to move us forward?

Let's not go back to first base all over again.

I'll be waiting with baited breath for the fish tank rumours to be confirmed.

it will be filled with local, young hard working goldfish not your expensive tropical ones that require constant attention.

& loads of red herrings. ;)

  6. Get rid -----------------------------------------------------neutral-------------------------------------------------------------keep him

    Big john10------------------------------------------------nobody on VT----------------me----------------------------------villa rev

That's as close as I hope to get to labelling anyone.

(Apologies to big john and VR if I misrepresent or offend..... But since I didn't misrepresent, sorry if I offend.)

I'm only offended that you didn't offend me. :(;):P:)

  7. If we lose at Spurs & both the Boggies & Hull City win simply view the final league table by standing on your head & it will look like we have qualified for the 4th spot in the Champions league.

  8. To clarify the MM on TBAR isn't the one that used to post here or anywhere else. He told me that directly.

Common sense tells you that it isn't the same MM.

He would be all over VT like a rash  if it was the same geezer.

He wouldn't be able to contain him self.

  9.

I don't think there was any shame in last night's results and those criticising Lambert for his tactics in that game just come across as desperate to criticise, frankly.

I really don't get why some posters have to be so over the top all the time. The last few months have been a disaster in terms of our results, so why undermine your credibility by complaining Lambert didn't go out and attack against the best team in the league at home? All it does it generate sympathy for the person you're trying to discredit (who has been doing a more than ample job of discrediting himself lately anyway).

I assure you nobody is 'desperate' to criticise Lambert. There is more than enough evidence to underpin the criticism he gets.

If there was a proposed trial by jury for the criticism of Paul Lambert, The Crown Prosecution Service would immediately dismiss the case out of hand due to insufficient evidence &  would  laugh his accusers out of court.

  10. Would love to have played that match with a fully fit Benteke, Agbonlahor & Weimann.

We held out with our backs to the wall for well over an hour & I believe we would have roasted 'em on the counter with Gabby's blistering pace & that would have given us something to cling on to..

Would love to have seen Kompany with Benteke for company, especially with Man City's full backs so high up the pitch.

A creditable performance by the lads though a little naive at times. Toure should have been professionally fouled on at least two occasions.on the final goal.

I won't be losing any sleep over this result & that's for sure.

Great to see Jack Grealish get a run out too.

  11. Something weirds happened with him i think, hope the kids okay. I heard he's packed football in all together, could mean trouble because i can't see him having made anywhere near enough money to keep him going forever and what normal job is he going to be prepared to do now!

Love Chris Herd & I hope he gets to stay.

Good Luck to the Wizard Of Aus.

  12. Well, Benteke scored half Villa's goal last season, so that's half the team out. ;) He was even playing with injury before and around Christmas.

And on top of that, his replacement (who Lambert said could play with Benteke) is injured... So...still short.

And the creative midfielder, N'Zogbia, is out...(if he was going to be in the bomb squad, that would have been Lerner's decision)...

And the best defender, Vlaar, was out for some time...

And the new central defender, Okore, who was eased in next to Vlaar, is out...

And on top of that, Lowton was out because of discipline/out of form issues, meaning the new midfielder, Bacuna, had to play rigth back.

And, even if he wouldn't have been a regular, Bennett was out injured over a long period of time before and around christmas, meaning a specialized left back was missing when Luna was out injured.

And some just said that Agbonlahor has been playing with an injury half the season...

And Herd is out with something psychological after being out with something fysical most of the time

And Baker had one or two concussions this season..

And Gardner was out for a long time and is struggling to get his fitness level up (hope he gets a new contract)

On the positive side, the midfield trio Delph, El Ahmadi and Westwood have all improved. So has Vlaar, Clark and to an extent Baker. And over the season so has Bacuna and Albrighton. Tonev and Helenius have not played at this high level of intensity before, and it showed, but I will give them the benefit of doubt until next season. And like we saw against Hull, Bowery look awesome at last.

I believe Lambert is the right man for the job. No worries.

    Love it momo.

    Magnificent post.
