  1. I got to meet Doug at the weekend and really wanted to bring up the bicycle thing but just couldn't do it.

I've always strongly disliked what he did at the club over the years, but it was painful seeing how frail he is now, wasn't far off having to crawl up the stairs.

You should have placed 1p at the top of those stairs & he would have been up there like a shot. ;)

  2. I can confirm that due to the strong accent of the original source of the TBAR information, there has been a mistake that has snowballed into the rumours that we have today.

It's not a couple of "Yankies" taking us over, it is in fact a couple of Venkys.

Chalk it down to an 'Admin' error.   ;)

I hope they chicken out. ;):P

  3. Ppl brining up 8-0 are you forgetting the game we gave them at the bridge this season? Or the win at VP?

We would have won that game 9-8 too if the ref would have added on another 5 minutes. ;)

  4. Ifs and buts aside I am sure if Okore and Benteke were fit all season then we'd have been comfortably top ten.

& 2500 Villa fans at Palace would have been doing cartwheels of delight chanting, "We know Lambert's right. We know Lambert's right!" ;)

  5. Lambert in? Lambert out?.................(In for me obviously)

Anybody wonder what Benteke, Okore & Kozac think?

After all. They are his players & surely it is to their ultimate benefit that the Lambert project continues.

I really can't see the point of destabilising the club by appointing a new manager & starting all over again.

Ofcourse, if a huge backer comes along & wants to inject a massive investment then that's a different story.

I would still want Lambo in this scenario too but that is up to them.

  6.

How do we know that the "dire brand of football" was Lambert's or Culverhouse's influence?

if manager and coach have come to completely divergent views on how to set the team up and tactics, it's entirely possible that you're not going to have a situation of play one style one week, another the next. one view will win out. Culverhouse and Karsa were bullies. I reckon the dire football was their doing.

In that case, Lambert should resign now. He is the manager and if we are seriously expected to believe he is so weak that he let his coaches bully the players and actually play a style of football he didn't agree with, he is no use to us. We need a manager who can manage.

From what I've been told Lambo slaughters his players at BMH too. I wouldn't be overly concerned though as football is ruthless & this is pretty much par for most football clubs.

Similarly, Mancini apparently is one of the most confrontational characters in football both as a player & especially so as a manager.

The professional football industry is no place for the faint hearted.

  7. If Ellison is our new owner I will shave my whole

Body and cover myself in eggs and

Flour and run to my local Tescos screaming his name*.

    *may not actually do this.

Where as if Ellis's son is our new owner I would cover myself in petrol & desperately light a match.

No doub't a few here on VT would also do the same.

Light the match I mean. ;):P

    * may actually do this :P

  8. Of course he's going. The only scenario in which Lambert will be here next year is if Lerner decides to be ambition again and let's be honest there's no chance that's happening.

If lerner doesn't sell and things stay the same I could see Lambert walking. Why continue to damage his reputation and struggle? And if we get taken over, which looks very likely, then he will be replaced.

The former Villa Player I spoke to yesterday told me that Paul Lambert will probably be given first shout on Randy's recommendation if new owners come in & he also confirmed that Randy has held talks with a prospective American buyer & a Russian oil Billionaire.

How true this is we will have to wait & see. He also told me that Culverhouse & Karsa regularly had Tonev in tears at BMH & that, that  is one of the reasons why they have been done for bullying.

How true this is will remain to be seen.

  9. After having had a bit of time to think about it, here are my thoughts on the situation.

Lambert obviously has to go, no question. I'm not going to go into tactics/records etc because everyone has covered it. We couldnt have done much worse this season with anyone in charge. Throw a caretaker shithouse in there and we probably would be on the same points. The two big trump cards for Lambert are supposedly his ability to get the best out of his players and shrewd signings in the transfer market.

Both of those, IMO, have been massive failures. Gabby has had probably his worst season in a Villa shirt and most of the players have regressed this season. The project is a load of absolute crap. We have no plan to work towards, no obvious playing style and no obvious masterplan. Its just been a steady stream of mediocre rubbish. The signings have largely been dreadful, I wouldn't trust Lambert to spend 50m of anyone money. He doesn't know what he needs and cant spot a player. I have zero faith in his tactics, transfers, subs or plan. There hasn't been a single reason in the last two years to give him another season.Luckily for him, hasn't got us relegated so no damage has been done really. Well other than ruining my, and most of us heres weekends for two years.

The only thing I will say, and this changes nothing but he has been exceptionally unlucky with injuries. Losing two strikers who were scoring goals, your starting center-back, most talented midfielder for essentially the whole season is rotten luck. But it doesn't excuse the seemingly endless embarrassments, awful football and this depressing dark cloud hanging over the club right now. For me, this has been the worst tenure in my time. Worse than Taylor, McLeish and Houllier. Taylor had rag-tag bunch of over the hil shithouses to work with (I know he signed them) but the club was stuck in a rut then. Houllier tried to change our philosophy and I really thought he has a plan so he gets a pass. McLeish I never expected anything less from. We all knew it would be a disaster and it was. But with Lambert, I really had hope that we had obtained a wily, intelligent manager who could the best out of this young, inexperienced team. I really believed that we could go somewhere under him. But as we discovered, Lambert is a chancer who lacks all of those skills. He has been a complete failure and huge letdown.

    Good riddance Paul.

R Bear (see bold)  - This has been one of my major reasons for continuously backing Lambert. You claim it changes nothing but surely it changes every thing & I for one really can't for the life of me understand why fans can't grasp this essential fact.

Paul Lambert & the whole Lambert project has been derailed by injuries to key personnel at critical times & lengthy periods this season.

  10.  Hats off to you John your after match analysis have been consistently on the mark all season & a truly enjoyable read. Pity our home form had not been as consistent. Credit must go to Paul Lambert in this victory for correctly setting the team up in a 5 3 2 formation when we were defending & instantly reverting into a 3 5 2 formation when attacking. I don't think any body is kidding themselves that things may well have turned out differently if potato heads toothless tigers had genuinely been up for this match. There were no tigers in their tank & as always we gifted the opposition a goal by first sloppily conceding possession, then Vlaar conceding an unnecessary free kick in a really dangerous position  & finally every body switching off & losing concentration when it was finally taken.

It was great to see Weimann finally  rewarded with two goals for all of his season long fruitless endeavours & his goal on the stroke of half time practically killed the game off as a contest. It was great to see Jordan Bowery put in a real shift when he came on & Delph working tirelessly in midfield.

A special mention here too for referee Mike Dean, who quietly went about his business & had no call to book any single player. If it was me I would have sent potato head directly to the stand just for simply being potato head. :P

Finally, congratulations to Ashley Westwood for scoring the 1000th Premier League goal at Villa Park.

Now that our safety is finally assured it's going to be a great Summer & the World Cup starts here. :)

    Up The Villa! :)

  11. The best & possibly most significant ever Villa Spurs game was the 1971 League Cup Final at Wembley when Villa we're in the old 3rd division & Spurs riding high in the then 1st Division..

Those two Martin Chiver's  goals certainly broke our hearts that day but not our indomitable spirit & every football fan outside of Villa Park realised that the sleeping giant had awoken once more & that the lion was about to roar it's way back to the top again.

If only Andy Lochhead had put us 1-0 up.

To this day no fans have ever graced Wembley greater than the Villa fans who attended that day.

As the great & famous old Spurs player Alan Gilzean observed & confirmed, "The Villa fan's we're simply amazing."

  12. Also. It may serve the club well to secretly invest in new players before the take over is confirmed, so that we do not get held to ransom by all other Clubs once they realise there is cash to splash.

eg. If we agreed with the potential new regime that we would buy Lewis Holtby say for £10M & that they could pick up the tab later, this would then stop Spuds asking us for £20M plus a few weeks down the line once the rumoured take over becomes official.

Also, this would allow us to get good business done early & prepare us for the new season & avoid all the last day & minute drama of the transfer window.
