Aston Villa Team News and Preview

Aston Villa are making waves in the transfer market, but that hasn’t translated into results on the pitch. Villa are winless in four games now, and another failure to win at Brentford would severely dent their promotion prospects. Steve Bruce’s side, currently 13th in the table, notched their first goals of the year against Preston last weekend, but their failure to close that game out after going 2-0 ahead in the first half must be a concern. The feel-good factor, though, has been provided by the new signings. James Bree, Birkir Bjarnason, Sam Johnstone, and Henri Lansbury have already arrived, and a few more signings are expected. Topscorer Jonathan Kodjia could be back in contention for a start after his Africa Cup of Nations involvement with Ivory Coast ended earlier this week. Aston Villa predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Johnstone, Bree, Chester, Baker, Amavi, Lansbury, Westwood, Adomah, Grealish, Agbonlahor, Kodjia.

Brentford Team News and Preview

Brentford could overtake Villa in the table with a win, but they are on the back of two successive 2-1 defeats in the league at the hands of Newcastle and Wigan. The Bees have an FA Cup tie against Chelsea on the weekend before this game, hence anything other than a loss would be considered a good result for them. Their top scorer Scott Hogan is being heavily linked with a move away from the club, with West Ham interested. Hogan’s departure could be a big loss for the Bees; his 14 goals contributing to almost half of his team’s 34 this season. Midfielder Alan Judge and left-back Rico Henry are long-term absentees, while the rest of the squad is available for selection to manager Dean Smith. Brentford predicted line-up (3-5-1-1): Bentley, Egan, Dean, Bjelland, Jota, McEachren, Woods, Yennaris, Field, Sawyers, Vibe.

Key Stats

Brentford have never beaten Aston Villa in nine previous games in all competitions (D3 L6). This is the first league meeting between these sides at Griffin Park since February 1947 – Aston Villa won 2-0 that day.

Betting Tips

Villa have been poor away from home this season, but Griffin Park hasn’t been a fortress for Brentford either. It is about time Villa notched their first win of 2017 which, with Kodjia back, is possible. Bet on the Claret and Blues to win by a single goal, with the game featuring three goals or less. And backing Villa's first win is a lot easier when done through a free bet, and you can browse through the best bookmaker signup bonuses on MyBettingBonus.com over the weekend.

Prediction

The bounce that comes with new arrivals should be enough to push Villa past the Bees, albeit by the slimmest of margins. Brentford 1-2 Aston Villa
