Bias aside, i actually think referees should bring some consideration into these things, despite the black and white rules.

You're 27 minutes into a massive game, was the RED REALLY necessary?

    You're ruining a game.

So you can take someone out who is clean through on goal as long as it's fairly early in the game?   Do you propose a minute where a RED card should be given?  Second half? After an hour?  If it's already 3-0 or something?

It was a professional foul. Van Dijk took out the man because it's all he could do to prevent Isak shooting, and that's a red card whether it's after 27 seconds, 27 minutes or in injury time at the end of the second half.

  2. I seem to be in a minority of people who are convinced they’ll stay up. They’ll do the bare minimum to stay up (again) but they’ve got a nack of getting results when they really really need to.

Looking forward to Carlos beating the s**t out of Haaland.

Carlos is the one player in the league that makes Haalands physicality look like that of Franky Thinsticks.

I don’t think they are in the same weight class.  Haaland has probably got four inches and a stone in weight on Carlos.

The commentators mentioned up at the start of the game that Hibs had spent £1.4 Million in closed season, and got 3 players for that.

I think I heard this on a podcast previewing the game but I’ve checked and it’s true, but Hibs two most expensive signings ever are both players who we signed. Second is John McGinn who they bought for a million and sold to us for £3.75m and their club record signing and only other player they’ve ever paid more than a million for? Ulysses de la Cruz.

McGinn said that Emery wasn't happy with how we played at half time.

We we're 4 up at the time.

The man is a machine. He won't be happy til we win the club world trophy. Then demand it's a regular thing. He is our Fergie. The man just hates losing full stop at anything.

I agree with Emery's assessment there. We were really sloppy for the first twenty minutes, passes were under hit, the movement wasn’t there, Torres looked shaky but we can throw a punch. I think the score line says more about the talent gap than anything good we did tactically.

These games will take forever with these dumb rules.

Remember how they added loads of injury time in the first couple of games of the group stages of the World Cup and then just kinda stopped?  I figure that’s what will happen in the Premier League too. All this added time will be an August and September thing then things will go back to normal when everybody pretends they got the message.

So should Luton. United are an absolute shambles.

I wouldn’t be so quick to dance on their grave. Last year they lost at home to Brighton on the opening day and followed that up by getting smashed 4-0 at Brentford. Still won the League Cup and finished third.

  8. First time I’ve looked at this thread in weeks.  Been here since Tuesday afternoon, turns out we arrived on a bank holiday (assumption of Mary) so everything was closed but me and the boy went to San Mames to do the tour on Wednesday and did a couple of museums yesterday, one in the old town and the Guggenheim.  Had provisionally planned to go to San Sebastián today but it’s gonna be really hot, I’m not entirely sure how to get bus tickets or where the buses go from.  We did get tickets to the Sociedad vs Celta game so I guess we will be figuring that out on the fly tomorrow.

  9. Writing this at 4-1 as the game is done.  I think it will be easy to read too much into this one, we deserved to get beat but not every game is going to be like this.  I feel like the Buendia injury messed with our preparations for the game and the Mings one basically torpedoed it.  How we deal with that going forwards is a question that needs answering but we were in this game right up until Konsa took his eye off the ball and let Isak make it 3-1.   Two of the goals were very tight offsides too.   We need to do something on Monday at Bodymoor Heath, but there is no crisis.

Yeah, Burnley are going to struggle this season.

I think they’ll be fine. The second goal knocked the stuffing out of them but they showed enough quality in flashes to suggest they are better than the team who went down under Dyche.

£110m is madness.  How is he ever worth that much?

Never underestimate the power of a good old fashioned bidding war.  Liverpool also found themselves in the unfamiliar role of being in a (relatively) weak bargaining position, what with the player supposedly preferring a move to Chelsea and the fact that they lost both Henderson and Fabinho a year earlier than they’d probably planned to.

    Lovely goal to be fair

Nice finish but Luzern were all over the place at the back.  The left back had some kind of brain fart and nearly fell over under barely any pressure and from that moment on Luzern were playing with fire.
