  1. Joey55 wasn't saying he's one of the best in the world, just that Hiddink said he was.
  2. I hope you're open to the possibility that you might be wrong on that one. Palacios is one of their best players. I know other people have different opinions but have never got the hype about Palacios. He cant tackle very well, passing is awful and his shooting is non existant. He makes NRC look like Xavi He's a very good tackler. His tackling and ability to hussle the opposition has been one of the key strengths to Tottenham's form since he joined. His passing, for the most part is fine. He's just prone to one or two stupid passes straight to the opposition every game. If he can just cut those few wayward passes out, people would probably view him a little differently. I agree that he's not much for shooting. But then, he wasn't bought for his ability to score from 30 yards out. To be honest, I'd be expecting more goals from Huddlestone than Palacios from the central midfielders.
  3. The problem with that team is that Defoe can't play as the lone striker. If you were gonna play that formation, Pavlyuchenko or Gudjohnsen would work better, as they've both shown they're much better at linking up with Modric.
  4. id rather poke my eyes out than read a spurs forum as i have no interest in spurs. my interest is villa. Yet you keep coming into and posting in a Spurs thread? It's not YOUR forum. YOU are also a GUEST to the OWNER's forum. Just as I am. It's a PUBLIC forum for the discussion of all things related to Aston Villa, football in general and pretty much anything else. I have just as much a right to post here as you do until someone in a position of power decides otherwise. And if your only interest is Villa, why don't you just stick to the Villa Talk section so you can avoid all discussions about those evil Tottenham players/manager/owners/fans?
  5. Go visit Bluemoon. Read all the posts from the City fans that are sure they're going to finish 4th. A large amount of them are extremely confident. Then go visit RAWK. Read all the posts from the Liverpool fans that still believe they'll go and win every game from now on and take 4th. There aren't as many of them as City have but there are still a great number of confident Liverpool fans considering they are quite far behind. Then go visit Spurscommunity. Read the few posts from fans that think Spurs will finish 4th. Then read all the others that think City or Liverpool will finish 4th. Spurs fans, by and large, have been the least confident of finishing 4th for the past few months. Up until recently, a lot of Villa fans on this very forum were more confident of finishing 4th than Spurs fans. And the proof is in the forums. Now your Spurs supporting mates may very well be gloating, I'm not calling you a liar. But a couple of your Spurs mates don't represent Spurs fans on the whole. Not even close, actually. It'd be like me saying how Villa fans in February were gloating about winning two cups and finishing 4th because two of my Villa supporting workmates were giving it the big one before the Man Utd game.
  6. That's how I felt about Villa. Although, minus the "great regret." For the very first time in my life, I actually think Spurs will finish fourth if they beat Sunderland. Wins against Sunderland, Bolton and Burnley, at least a draw against City will give 10-12 points and then anything gained against the top 3 can be seen as a bonus. And Defoe and Lennon are coming back into fitness which will drastically improve the pace of our attack, which is something we've seriously been lacking for the last few months. Could end up being a great season for Spurs.
  7. Pundits don't pick up on it because Redknapp doesn't "leave them in ruins". He manages the team, not the finances. Football clubs have chairmen and accountants and lawyers who are responsible for overseeing the expenditures of their club. They're the people who screw up the club by spending more money than they make. Which is why it'll never happen at Spurs (or at least not with the current board), because the chairman is actually competant at his job.
  8. That depends, really. We've only currently got Palacios, Huddlestone, O'Hara and Jenas as central midfielders at the moment (along with Kaboul and Modric who can 'play' there in emergencies), plus Sandro coming in the summer. But Sandro is probably going to need a few months of blooding in (although hopefully less than many South Americans, given that his playing style is a lot more suited to the Prem than the more attacking players). O'Hara seems like he wants to go somewhere where he'll definitely be first choice, so my guess is he'll be on the way out to some mid-low range Premiership team. Plus Jenas is apparently on his way out, to Inter Milan of all teams. So I do think Redknapp will be on the hunt for another central midfielder, hopefully an Edgar Davids type player that's won things and can teach Sandro and the other young midfielders a thing or two.
  9. You guys are like the football forum equivalent of Dave Spikey. You ought to get some new material, or at least stop repeating the same tired ass lines post after post. Just a suggestion. ;P
  10. It's pretty amusing though that Villa fans can try to rip on another team's style of play. 180 minutes of football between Spurs and Villa this season, and Villa defended for about 150 of them. Then sent long balls to Young and Agbonthewhore to chase. Hypocrisy.
  11. Hoofspuds? Is that supposed to be a reference to Spurs being a long ball team? If so, you either don't watch Spurs play or you're a blind idiot. And a hypocrite. I posted a stat from OPTA on here a few weeks ago that showed that Villa play a higher percentage of long balls than Spurs. And Spurs are in the top 4 for total number of passes and total number of completed passes.
  12. been poor to average since he arrived. Been poor to average since his career began. Seriously why is a Spuds fan in a Villa match thread when we are playign Wigan? Sorry, is there an internet law saying a football fan can't take an interest in the opinions of a rival team's fans whilst they're playing a match?
  13. been poor to average since he arrived. Been poor to average since his career began.
  14. Prove our greatness? I showed facts that show that over the last decade or so Spurs average 8th place. Yup, greatness personified. I also quite blatantly said that Spurs were crap in the 90s. That's two full decades there. I'm only twenty two years old, so I only deal with history that I was there to witness. Anything pre-1995/6 is beyond my years, so I don't comment on them because I wasn't there to live them, or was just too young to understand. So, yes, to me football history generally started in the mid-90s. And the cup stuff was relevant because I wasn't replying to the comment about league finishes, I was replying to your comment about the media attention that Spurs get, and successful cup wins play a part in the media attention. Dress it up and try and twist it any way you wish, the point I was responding to was that you have achieved a top 7 position 3 times in 18 years. That is pathetic. Yes, you're right. Excuse me while I cry myself to sleep. Woe is me...woe is me.

  16. Is that really there record? If so that is pathetic and its beyond belief the profile they enjoy in the media considering the likes of Bolton can probably beat that record. Spurs' average league position over the last five years is 7.6. That includes 2 cup finals, 1 cup win and however many semi-finals. Spurs' average league position over the last ten years is 8.4. That includes 4 cup finals, 2 cup wins and however many semi-finals. It's not that bad a record. Villa's, by contrast is 9.6 for the last five seasons and 9.4 over the last ten. With 2 cup wins from (at least) 3 cup finals and however many semi finals. Spurs were poor in the 90s, during the Alan Sugar era. The club nearly went bankrupt and Sugar cared only about keeping the club afloat and getting the finances in order, which he did a pretty good job of, but it was at the expense of the team. It's only been since Daniel Levy and ENIC took control of the club that Spurs started looking like a decent club again. But if the media coverage of Spurs bothers you so much, I'd suggest you don't read the papers. Stick to Sky Sports News and the internet for your football news. The papers are all piles of crap.
  17. Agree. He is a good player but some of his simple passing at times is appauling. It really is. It's actually somewhat impressive how he can pass the ball to an opposition player's feet with such pin point accuracy so often, especially when he's got all the time in the world. But I suppose he's not in the team for his passing skills, that's what Huddlestone's for.
  18. That's awesome. But yeah, as someone said, it's "he's a yiddo." Unless we're playing Liverpool or Everton, in which case it's "We've got Jermain Defoe, you've got our stereos!"
  19. It's not a debate, is it? It's a simple yes/no question. You could've answered it in a fraction of the time it took to make that post. But sure, who wants to engage in "pointless debates" when you can contribute such meaningful posts as that one, eh?
  20. You disagree? If you were a professional footballer, would you not want to play for Real Madrid?
  21. Here Now granted he mentions that he love to play for Real but to come out and say he wants to move to a bigger club in the future, ouch. Although I'm sure some Spurs fans would be able to find some positive way of looking at this. Cristiano Ronaldo said the same thing while he was at Man Utd. Plus, it was quoted in The Sun so it was probably stolen from a foreign source and taken completely out of context. Either way, it's no big deal. Any good ambitious player would wanna play for Real Madrid.
  22. Now that I've said that, we're gonna lose to Fulham and Palacios and Bale are gonna injure each other in some bizarre full throttle collision that keeps them out for the season. And Gomes will trip over his nose and break his ankle.
  23. It's probably our best shot at a successful season now, I feel. With King, Woodgate, Lennon, Jenas, Huddlestone and possibly Defoe all injured, plus the stupid amount of squad members we have out on loan, it doesn't look like the squad is strong enough to maintain good enough form to finish 4th. And if Palacios, Bale or Gomes get injured, we'd do well to finish 6th. So we may have to adjust our goals this season and go all out for the FA Cup. But then, if I was offered being fourth for a large chunk of the season and challenging for the whole season as well as winning the FA Cup, I'd have taken it quite happily.
  24. During the 2006 World Cup, I was reading some newspaper that had pictures of the England players and my dad who isn't in to football at all but does know little bits asked me "Which one is Crouch?" and there happened to be some kind of promotional picture of Crouch and Owen together so I pointed him out and said "That's Crouch" and my dad said "Oh... I've seen this picture before, I thought he (points at Owen) was just having his picture taken with some retarded kid"
  25. He's always come across as a very nice, reasonably intelligent guy. Shit footballer and an ugly git though. But he gets paid about £40k a week and takes Abbey Clancey to bed every night so he probably doesn't care what I think. The bastard.
