  1. Lambert has come out and said that Stan remains the Captain of the Club. Whoever leads out the team on match day depends on who is going to be on the pitch. Until we know who Lambert likes etc we cant really say.

If Im asked who is Villa Captain the answer is Stan Petrov.

  2. John, lets be honest, did you think when Kenny Swain when he made his debut, he would become to any normal observer the best right back in the country. Can you remember Swains debut and the position he played, my motm by the way, but that aint a good clue lol

I didnt see it as I wasnt old enough back then but wasnt he a right winger?

Allan Evans was a CF for Dunfirmaline and converted at Villa to CB.

Morley arrived from lower league Burnley - First thing in my Vilal Scrapbook was teh report of him Signing.

    Spink arrived from nonleague Chelmsford.

Wasnt Geddis a big signing who just ddint work out?

  3. I'm pretty sure I saw some of the team wearing these last season during training sessions too.

I might have missed that - Looking at the information on the site Villa are not listed as one of the teams that use them, West Brom are though!

  4. If you saw the pictures of the team training you couldnt fail to see the Catapult Sports bands being wore across the chests.

This is advanced performance monitoring equipment so it looks like Lambert is dragging the training techniques and performance monitoring into the 21st Century.

Quite a few of the top Fotball and Rugby clubs are using this tech.

Good News that we are finally joining them

  5. A few others who left us thought the grass was greener, they soon found out it wasn't!

And by the by, I see our game at your place is live on Sky...............I can't think why?

Yeah Im sure Martin O'Neil, Steve Bruce, Chris Sutton, Andy, Townsend, Chris Woods, Scott Parker (Cheating here as he was on Loan), Robert Green, Andy Linighan, Danny Mills, Dave Watson, John Fashanu and best of all RON SAUNDERS all regret leaving Norwich.

  6. MACRON STORE

UNIT D11 - SANTRY BUSINESS PARK - SANTRY

    DUBLIN 9

    Telephone number: +353 (0)1 8625044

It's very easy to get to.

Do they have the kids/infants kits stocked there? I might take a tootle down the M1 from da North to get a kit for my son.

  7. I loved the idea of Olly and the idea of Laudrup appealed more than Lambert

    BUT

The more I think about it I think we have got exactly what we need right now in Lambert.

Laudrup is going into a situation where he just needs to continue what Swansea are doing and build upon it.

Villa need a rebuilding and basically ripped apart and this is where hopefully Lambert comes in.

  8. To be honest I couldnt care less if he's a nice guy or not, I want a good manager rather than a good guy. With McLeish the good guy mantra was there to protect him...it didn't.

So far though Lambert has said all the right things, but at this stage it's easy to do, remember McLeish last season saying he was gonna play attacking football and Gabby was not going to play on the wing.

He also said Downing was going nowhere for less than £50M. Like eveything he said I did not believe it, it was bollocks.

With Lamber I trust and believe the man.

Yeah but 20 Mill was still a bloody good deal!

  9. He was good last season but I have to wonder whether our vulnerability from set pieces is partly down to him? I know we were bad the season before but we seemed even worse last season.

    ^^ This

Given just doesnt seem to command/organise a defense like he should. Brilliant Shot Stopper but not a top quality Keeper who is in charge of the defense.

  10. I thought you'd have Cully and Karsa by now, very odd.

Just let go of the straws man...just let it go.

I'm clutching nothing fella, can't see them staying here, Karsa most certainly will go, probably Cully too.

Are you still Bitter about the 1975 League Cup Final? :)

  11. They've had months to design these kits

Yet they look like they've been hashed together in an afternoon by a graduate

Some of th mock ups on here were far superior

Is there anything about Aston Villa you like?

I have yet to read a positive post off you, why are you so down on everything surely your life can't be that bad?

I think he stick s his tadger in teh air to see which way a conversation is going and then says something he thinks is the popular view.

Perhaps the man down at Tescos can kock up a few kits

  12. It is a shame that we are listening to such ignorance of our history.

Black Socks debate last year - We wore Black Socks from the middle 1920s until the 1950s which covers greats in our club like Johnny Dixon, Peter McParland, Pongo Waring, Eric Houghton. It was Balck Socks the last time we won the FA Cup!

Macron to their credit looked at our old kits and went to the 1980-81 kit for inspiration. That Design had sort of stayed the same since around 1974 and had collars.

The filled in V at the front of the neck instantly had me thinking back to our Third Division Days. That was the last real rebirth of this club. We also won the Euro Super Cup (Beating Maradona's Barca in teh process) with a filled in V Neck.

The Home kit fits in totally with the history of teh club. I will wait till I see it in real life to make a judgement on the colours, but compared to some of the 80s and 90s kits we had its bloody good.

Anyone here who cares can look at http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Aston_Villa/Aston_Villa.htm to see how the kist have built up over the years.

  13. I have never been a big Given fan and never really wanted him at Villa. Given is a great shot stopper but causes chaos in the defense at the team he has been at. Funny isnt it that Villa, Man City and Newcastle have bad defenses when Given is around but they suddenly do a lot better when he is not.

Another thought is that Man City gambled on a young Joe Hart as he wasa highly rated keeper. We have Siegrist who is a golden glove winner in the u19 champs. Should we not think about taking a gamble on him? Perhaps bring in Butland and have two young keepers competing to be number one.

  14. I was never a fan of Given. Yes a good shotstopper but he doesnt command his defense.

Think of the Clubs he has been at: Newcastle and Man City had bad Defense during the time he was there and he was the only saving grace. he leaves and all of a sudden they tighten up!

A Goal Keeper needs to organise his defense and give it confidence.

  15. My Guardian today describes him as "former Ireland international footballer Paul McGrath" but spoils the whole thing by publishing a massive picture bloody Jedward carrying the torch.

Despite attempts above to explain the torch's trip to Dublin, I am still a bit confused. The 2012 website has two statements:

We are delighted to be taking the Olympic Flame to Dublin. This gives us an historic opportunity to recognise sporting talent from across the Republic of Ireland.
The Olympic Flame coming south to Dublin shows the importance of sport in building bridges for peace and a recognition of the all-island composition of Team Ireland as it goes for gold at the London Olympic Games.
So does the Republic of Ireland Olympic Team claim it represents the whole of Ireland including the North? Sounds a bit incendiary to me.

In a way yes. Someone born in Northern Ireland qualifies for a UK passport and a Republic of Ireland Passport so they can elect to represent GB and NI Team or the Ireland Team.

Someone said to me they had qualified for the Olympic Trials and I was thinking hang on your not that fast and realised they meant the Irish Olympic Trials.

Same for football. My son can decide to represent either England (due to his father being English i.e. Me), Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland. Lots of examples currently of Kids coming up through the NI Football system to jump to represent the Republic.
