    Liverpool havent spent???

     

    I suppose we do not count Carroll (35 mill), Downing (18 mill ho ho ho) and Suarez (23 mill).

     

    Funded mostly by the sale of Torres for 50 mill but they have still spent

    Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Roy as the number 2.  Shake things up.

     

    He wants to win, He was a winner and he is also prepared to sacrifice himself for the good of the team.  

     

    Think vs Juventus booked in semi meaning he will miss final.  He digs in and drags United back into the game and into the final.  

    The Final he was pleased about the win but didn't get involved in the celebrations because he wasn't out on the pitch that night unlike John Terry.

     

    Overstepped mark in 2002 with Ireland, but what he was saying was true that the setup of the training facilities wasn't good enough while the officials/suits made sure they were taken care off.

    The only 100% proven "ITK" - who is the father of a player - has said he does not expect anything to change over the summer.. Therefore I am preparing myself for that.

    We cant blame injuries they did naff all in jan getting a new centre half in and creative midfielder. Lerner gambled and our luck will run out. We have a poor squad regadless of injuries

    At one point last season we had more injuries than any other premier league club, that along with being stripped back doesn't help. If its nothing to do with injuries then why do clubs have squads?

     

     

    Well When I was a lad we won the league with just 14 players I tell ya, 14 players!!

    I was told by someone years ago during the ONeil Years that Lerner was looking for investment Partners from the East.  It wasnt long after Man City had been taken over.

     

    I think we have been up for sale for a while but the statement was put out to be a lightning rod for all the specualtion floating around.

    Lerner is slagged off for not investing more and cutting back after ONeil,

    Ellis did that after we won the European Cup.  We were still Champions of Europe when he retook control and due to lack of investment and cutting back we were relegated within 5 Years.

     

    On top of that Ellis failed to build on good foundations in 1990 after Taylor got us Second, in 93 after Atkinson got us Second (big Ron wanted Roy Keane and Klinsman ended up with Guy Whittingham and Andy Townsend).  1999 when Gregory had us top of the league he failed to invest to push us over the line.

     

    Managers, Lerner hired Houlier and McDuff.  Ellis hired Turner, McNeil and Venglos.  He didnt Want Ron Saunders and left originally cause the board backed Ron instead of him.

     

    Money, Lerner has put a lot of his own money.  Ellis took money.  He was the first Chairman to award themselves a wage.  He set up the shares issue so he could be made into a multi millionaire.  Apart from buying the shares he didn't invest any of his own money.

     

    EGo - Wllis full of it thought he was Mr Aston Villa.  Lerner thinks he is looking after Aston Villa.

     

    So Yes I thank Lerner for having a go.  It didn't work out but at leaf you tried.

    Stupid to sack the best manager since Ron Saunders.

    I'd be suprised if you were alive when saunders was our manager with that statement.
    I'd be suprised if you are old enough to have learned the meaning of the expression 'rebuilding job'.

    Rebuilding or demolition?! Im old enough to have seen many things down the villa and intelligent enough to realise mentioning lambert in the same breath as saunders is just plain stupid.

     

     

    Is it that Stupid.  Saunders was getting criticised a lot before the season we won the league.  A lot of the fans thought we were not going anywhere in fact backwards after the wonder season of 76-77 (For this too young a League Cu, 1/4 FA, 4th in Table but beat Liverpool and Arsenal 5-1  We were this Seasons Liverpool that year).

     

    After that Collapse Saunders realised he had to build a team capable of maintaining the whole season.  Peter Withe was the famous last bit of the Jigsaw and Capt Dennis had the war cry Its Now or Never before the season.

     

    Yet a lot of fans couldn't get their head around buying a journeyman from Newcastle for a record fee.

     

    Lambert isn't the best since Saunders (Taylor mii, Atkinson, Little, Gregory and ONeil) but he isn't the worst either.  Turner, McNeil, Venglos, McNumpty compete for that.

     

    To me Lambert has a lot of promise, he is just working under very restrictive directives.

    I dont think Luna has been bombed yet.

     

    It will not be the first time that a player from a different country has struggled in a new one.

     

    For those old enough think of Des Walker.  Class player for Forest and England but went to Juventus and came back within a year.  Was never considered the same again but probably played at the same standard for Sheff Wed as he had for Forest.

     

    Luna could still come good having a second pre-season under his belt with his new team.

    On the subject of Villa in America.

     

    Early 1992 I was living near Atlanta and I had the white Umbro away kit on and a guy came up to me in a mall askign abotu Villa.  Turned out he knew Dave Richardson who I think was in charge of our youth policy back then.

     

    Later on I was at Univ of Miami when UB40 played.  Knowing the cambell brothers are kncukle dragging blue noses I wore my Villa Shirt.  A shout went out of Villa and there was a pocket of Villa fans there.  In fact they picked me up on the League Cup Final 1994 and took me off to a Pub to watch the game.

     

    You also have to remember that in th 1960s a lot of old Villa boys were instrumental in shaping US 'Soccer' and the old MLS.

    I dont think I would want Richards. 

     

    Capello has said in the past that he doesnt follow instructions very well, or hold his postion.  To ready to rush in.

     

    It will be another Ireland situation where we are remembering his good performances 6 years ago rather than how is is now.

    Ron Saunders built three teams.  

     

    One to get us promoted into the First Division (Premiership to you youngsters) 74-77.

     

    One that was the most Entertaining circa 1977-78 but fell away at end of season.

     

    One that won the league and Euro Cup 78-80.  This was kicked off by selling Gray and Gidman and Cropley getting injured which was looked on as a disaster at the time. 

     

    He took from 1974-1982 to build these teams and there was a lot of grumbling we were going backwards etc 78-80 but he was stubborn and stuck to his plan.

     

    Ellis took about two years to dismantle all that has been built and 5 years to destroy when we got relegated.

    He has his coaching badges so he is qualified to take the role.

     

    We are lucky to still have a qualified interested person around.  He will try and make the most of this chance as he wants to move into coaching especially as his playing career is drawing to a close.
