Thanks for the heads up Gent I read it but as usual no sources or greater info. I would hope its true the North Stand is a hole, redevelopment would add extra seats and much better hospitality features which is seen to be key these days.
As for naming rights they could call the ground the Nazi stadium if they like fact is we will all call it villa park or down the villa its just free cash for us to try and keep up with the guys in front of us.
-
That would worry me too Villa rocker
-
There is a well known correlation that whenever a new TV deal comes in player wages go up a lot, not just at Villa everywhere hence how top player can go from 10k to 300k a week in 20 years
-
I wasn't talking about prices and numbers turning up this year or even the last few I was talking about decades upon decades.
Fact is we pay half what a Arsenal fan does and they get an extra 20 odd thousand in the stadium too, then there is all the corporate spending, bigger sponsorship (by a very wide margin), naming rights for the stadium, champions league revenue and lastly merchandising.
That is the extent of the difference between Villa and Arsenal's finances.
As fans we have never given the club the demand to move ground or expand it significantly.
As fans we have never given the club the demand to bring ticket prices in line with clubs like Arsenal (get what you pay for)
As fans we moan if anyone brings up the issue of changing the ground name.
The other things mentioned such as corporate spending, larger sponsor deals, champions league money and merchandising come off the back off a solid first three if you don't have a Mansour to bank roll you to that point which you cant even do now due to financial fair play.
That is where I was mentioning the fans role but I am not talking about a RECENT thing I am talking about something that has been going on for longer than I have been alive and coupled with our trophy hall of 1 European cup, 1 super cup, 1 league trophy and 1 FA cup in the last century point to the fact we are a big club but not a massive club and therefore shouldn't expect the best of everything because frankly we don't deserve it in comparison to say an Arsenal or Man Utd.

This all seems futile we all know each others opinions. What are we debating at this point?
-
and how much more from merchandising? How much more from ticket sales as my definition of match day revenue is everything except the ticket
-
When we were challenging the top 4 the attendances still didn't sell out regularly and Macron/Dafabet sponsorship revenue is laughable next to the clubs that we are supposed to be competing against (top 6)
-
I agree with Andy you get what you pay for other clubs fans pay twice what we do and have waiting lists for tickets, surprise surprise they are usually the biggest clubs.
Football is a money game and if you don't generate it then don't expect the best.

Well well, what a storm in a tea cup.
The national rag puts a story out which within hours is completely denied by our chief executive.
Those are the facts so that is what we have to work with, nothing.
As for all the lack of spending people in the last pages well if RL delivers the same spending next season as he has the past previous seasons and critically PL spends it on 1 to 3 players rather than 6 to 8 as he has a full squad now then we can only improve.
What I am saying is what our current situation and indications point to.
-
Yep that is interesting and just follows up the point I was making when I asked for similar info to what you have just posted.
-
I think the figures are nearly accurate personally, I had a nagging feeling that the funds given per year were roughly the same and I wanted to point this out as evidence to expect 15-20m in the summer but with a near full squad we SHOULD be expecting 1 - 4 players in the summer for much higher figures than before and therefore one would hope a higher quality of player than someone already in the first 11.
If that doesn't happen (the money) I'll blame Randy, if that doesn't happen (the amount of players being greater than 3 or 4) then I'll blame Lambert. If it does happen I will be happy with the plan as it is what I have thought would happen for sometime as we will be slowly building.
Another interesting fact is the players brought are mostly worth the same or more than what we paid for them so any sales of players no longer needed may actually raise some revenue for once.
In short the people like me are either going to be vindicated or pissed off with Lerner like some already or there will be a growing amount of people with a lack of confidence in Lambert.
As a target for where we finish I will be happy with being 3 points of 10th place whatever position that is.

lol Pete so true you're always hearing the Milner money or the (add name here) money, like the only cost is buying players. Even the more intelligent ones say wage bill cost + transfer fees but even then there is many other costs.
-
Thanks for trying to find the figures, I assume you left out certain player names from that list because the figures were disclosed at the time.
Assuming the figures are right and they wont be 100% correct it has us at 13m a year and in the last 2 seasons our spend was 16 and 20m according to the list so the owners spending has gone up.
As for the person who said its the wages that are the problem that is only a half truth, it is a large part of the problem but so is the lack of a sell on value of players i.e. buying players who are older or more likely haven't performed at all.
-
Any business would set a yearly budget, the January window should be simply for mopping up a loan signing or spending left over money from the summer.
In most cases bad planning leads to January purchases it is quite rare a club buys a player they have been tracking for ages and the chance comes to sign them.
Feel free to disagree

You know what? I'd be interested in seeing our NET transfer spend each season RL has been here.
If anyone feels the urge to provide this info along with the valuation of the players in and out for that given season it would be appreciated.

Yea god knows what the thought was on bringing him....... unless it was yea were going to come in for lots of criticism lets get someone they hate so they aim it at him.
-
I believe clubs back managers with funds per season not per window, in response to some comments on here.
-
I was talking about replacing aging over paid players with young players on much lower wages who may have a sell on fee which seems to have become a novelty for our club.

Well I agree John seems very small time and pointless they aren't going to want him when he comes back and he certainly doesn't want them.

Dodgy don't show that picture to my missus or i'll be replaced

No John I have no problem with the 100 games being so bad WHEN the whole the whole structure of the club is being changed and makes success more likely in the future.
