But again he's 19 starting a PL game

Liverpools 2 England youth internationals started on the bench and they're both in the age group above him

He's the only England u20 player to start a PL game this weekend, I think quick looking only 5 players from the U21s did

What he's doing is a huge achievement even if in the games themselves he's only putting in like 6 out of 10 performances

My gut feeling is Chuk will come good this season. Like you say he is only 19, I think Poch will give him plenty of minutes and he will improve as the season goes on. JJ had plenty of average games for us when he was 19, it is par for the course at that age. I think we are trying too hard as fans to convince ourselves we did alright from the deal, and yes we did ok to get £20m, but that’s not to say Chuk doesn’t go on to do well in his career though given time.

  2. I don’t want to get too down on one result, but this is just typical Villa. Get your hopes raised of good things to come, before totally imploding and crushing those hopes.

I am hoping it’s a one off shocker, but the loss of players to long term injury is going to hurt us bad. I thought we could cope with Buendia injury, Mings will be a massive loss for us, he is our lynchpin at the back. ☹️

I'm not sure about this lad as I said, but I'd take him over Ferran Torres. Torres is a player who seems to have a fuss made over him far in excess of what he brings to a team.

I have no idea what order each of them come on the list. I can’t say I know enough about any of Felix, Torres or Zaniolo to say for certain which is the better option so I also have reservations on all three. Torres has the experience of playing in the PL previously, but hasn’t really kicked on to live up to the hype. Reading about Zaniolo having had some bad injuries is also a big concern. Finally, I am not sure Felix is jumping for joy about coming here, which could be a recipe for disaster. Hopefully whoever we get in can prove us wrong.

I actually saw us linked with him earlier in the window i'm sure to be fair.

Been mentioned he was on a " list "

Yeah he has definitely been mentioned earlier in this window. He is on the list, probably the same list as Ferran Torres and Felix neither of whom have gone anywhere yet. I imagine we are working through this list and have sounded various players out, and maybe trying to nudge some players along a little with their decision making.

I’ve thought all window we’ll get another forward in (let’s no forget it was heavily reported Tammy was signing pre injury).

Agreed, I think it is the only area of the squad we are really light in both depth and quality. I would like to see one more bought in. Archer could be the man, but pinning your hopes on him in the event of a Watkins injury would be foolish, especially if we are serious about challenging the top teams for a cup/Champions League spot. Duran is still a bit too raw from the few minutes of game time I have seen him play and is currently behind Archer in my opinion.

  6. FFS, terrible news for us. As well as his pressing ability, he is a good finisher and was starting to hit the net with more regularity during pre-season. Sad news, hopefully he can make it back for the tail end of the season.

For those who want to see Louie's penalty miss

That’s a shame for the lad, unfortunately it was the perfect height for the goalkeeper. It needed to be lifted about another foot higher into the top half of the goal and it would be almost unstoppable. Hopefully Barry bounces back from that quickly.

That is very odd, have they been through a translator?

Or is it their Pro Evo names? 🤣

Where has that come from, they aren't like that on the OS?

Could we insert a buy back clause and insist on a percentage of any future fee above £12m, to cover us just in case, Aaron preferred another club's offer?

I was thinking something like 25%, with a £25m buy back for the next 2 or 3 years.

I think you can make the contract have many different clauses based on any given scenario playing out. I think we would be mad not to have a large sell on clause included as well.

I'd be amazed if that is the finished look. At the very least they will put the complete T back and then move the H and E down a few rows to re align them, it is only a case of swapping a few blue and claret seats.

This was my thinking as well, surely the seats can be re-jigged to sort the lettering. Let’s see what it looks like for the first match before reaching for the pitchforks.

  11. I think the thing that stands us in better stead now more so than any other time under MON for a Euro campaign, is that we have become a more possesion based team over the last twelve months. We can control the pace of more matches than we ever did under previous managers, which results in having less chasing about after the ball to do, which will partly help towards managing the extra work load.

Unai Emery has shown he is not afraid to rotate and use the younger players. I believe we have the best manager for us at the helm, and hopefully he in turn can get the best out of each of those players he has available during this campaign.

We will have to get used to this workload as a club and a fanbase if we want to be succesful in the future. This is all part of the learning curve for the club.

  12. What stands us in good stead here with this deal is that Aaron has connections to our club with his brothers being here, and him being a local lad coming through the academy and a fan. I think he would jump at the chance to come back in 12-24 months.

I get the comparison as Dougie had a similar deal, but he never hit the heights at the time to make Man City trigger their buy back option. For Man City it doesn’t matter as much as they have loads of top quality talent in their squad already that they wouldn’t miss him. That is not to say they won’t come sniffing around again next summer if Dougie has another storming season.

  13. It sounds like he has made a good start on loan. He just needs to maintain this level and be consistent throughout the season, then we may see KKH integrated into our first team squad next season.

Daphne van Domselaar is seriously good. She's going to be a super player for us, quite probably an upgrade on Hampton.

Yes, another clean sheet. She looks to be a great pick up for us. Who is this Hampton you mention? 😄

Looking like relegation fodder against Bayer

4-0 down, ouch. I am not sure what is going on there! Rice was an important player for them, but they are struggling big time without him. They have not bought anyone yet, which is a surprise with the £100m+ they have from selling Rice.

    Chuk and scott

£12m is cheap but that's got to be reflected in the value of the clause, cheaper we sell cheaper we can buy back

I am not keen on the deal, but the devil is in the detail. Hopefully the detail works in our favour further down the line. For now Aaron Ramsey doesn’t get many opportunities in our first team, but with a good spell at Burnley in 12-24 months we hopefully have the option to pick up Aaron as a fully developed and exciting option for relatively peanuts.

I don’t know the detail, so will have to trust Unai and his team know what they are doing. He has done well in the past with young players at Arsenal and Villarreal, so I will console myself with that for the time being.

  17. Well, Finn has made great strides up the divisions since he arrived here. I don't think we could have expected any more. Hopefully he can raise his game another level and smash the Championship.

Does anyone have an idea of the new contract length? If I was guessing, he must have signed a 1 year extension so would now  have 2 years left on his contract with us. Does that sound about right?

  18. If anyone is thinking of buying a shirt, training top or Villa gear and you bank with Halifax then they currently have a 12% cash back offer on their online banking app for use on fanatics.co.uk or kitbag.com. The offer is on until 5th September.

Definitely a dark horse to go down...all it will take is a little nudge to Lopetegui

I have a feeling they could be like Leicester. Sold some key players long term players, not replaced them with anyone of quality yet and a disgruntled manager. It could be a tough season next year if they make a bad start and Lopetegui walks or is sacked.

  20. Yeah, that deal isn’t happening. 😂

I think the best Burnley could hope for right now is a loan deal. Why would we sell off one of our most exciting youth prospects, especially for the paltry sum suggested.

The love towards the players that did well in the championship is quite unique, isn’t it? Like, we all knew Conor, Elmo and Hutton weren’t elite level in PL terms, but the fact that they got us back to where we belong, in league terms, will always make them special

Yep, we could have been stuck in a massive hole without those players. They knew the level well and what was required to get us back up. I would also add Chester and Uncle Albert to your list, Albert Adomah weighed in with some valuable goals during his time at the club . 😀

  22. JWP is perfect for Moyes West Ham, they will utilise his set piece delivery well as they are a big physical team. Like others have said, JWP’s all round game is ok but certainly not better than anything we already have here at the club.

I highly doubt we would be looking to buy him now. Firstly, he wouldn’t be good value having signed a long term contract. Secondly, Dougie has stepped his game up to a whole new level, thirdly Kamara looks like he will be top quality with a season now under his belt. That is before I even get on to how much McGinn improved last year and how we now have Tielemans.

We haven’t been linked have we? That makes little sense.
