Or the simple explanation is the answer ie go home we aren’t doing any more.

This forum believes some nobody on Twitter but not the clubs communications director.

If the communication director is lying it’s the one job where it tarnishes anything he says in the future doesn’t it, which would be silly given his position.

But 'burkina faso neymar' tweeted some Mali flags?

Personally I don't think it does apply to them in the same way because the wealth we are talking about is so vast they can continuously chuck billions and billions at it.

On an individual buying level there may not be a big difference if we're competing for one player, but they could promise that player they can make 10 more massive signing in that window.

Lets not forget most of Abramavoich's money went into Chelsea when it was far cheaper and easier to buy world class players, yet the club have still ended up owing him £1.5b.

There is also the ownership dynamic. PIF own a majority of Newcastle and can basically do whatever the **** they want. Our ownership is 50/50 and if Nassef wanted to put in £1b then Wes would have to match it. The problem is he'd have to sell everything he owns to do so, because his (public) is reported at £1b.

Them being a nation also makes a difference as it becomes a lot easier to secure those massive sponsorship deals. I know people like to suggest similar with Nassef, but it's pie in the sky for a listed company to do the same. The shareholders would sue in seconds if a senior employee paid way over the odds on a sponsorship deal to do a board member a favour.

I think you're being a little naïve to what Newcastle could do here, considering Man City have already developed a model for wealthy states to financially dope their clubs outside of the rules.

Not necessarily, there are likely unilateral funding agreements where nassef could put in a certain amount without Wes also having to as long as they were both in agreement.

    Agree with the rest though

Strange to see our communications director tweeting that. Wouldn’t he be better off just saying nothing?

Maybe he thinks Rob Dorsett is a prick like the rest of us and this is the polite way of telling him to piss off

So a few accounts hyping up something big

All the media saying nothing incoming

Previously signings of Ings and Chambers has lead me to believe no one knows anything about our business...

Our comms director might though, unfortunately

The funny thing is, I know I'm a moron for getting drawn in, I just love it too much not to

Got ya. Strange thing to come out with if not confident at all. Seems the Brighton journo has said it’s not happening though, they usually get that right at least!

All the Brighton journos seem to be saying chances are slim due to the time frame but caveat by saying it's possible if a big offer comes in.

I agree with @CVByrne though that this isn't really our style of doing busines

I’m probably missing something obvious, but what’s the relevance of it? (The tweet)

This is an 'itk' (I know, I know) who has a semi decent track record calling the likes of barkley and martinez to villa

(Brighton fans were laughing saying Bissouma would never move to villa so the implication is that something is happening with regards to Bissouma)

This is where i do get frustrated. if and it is a big if Brighton want to sell him then we need to look at our transfer business as a whole.

We got Emi at well under his true value from Arse for 17 mill. If we were to sell him now it would be a number beginning with 5 .

Midfield is where we have spent so so little. This is a time when you overpay to get the right player in place . Some of us agree and some disagree that he is the solution we need  , but pretty much all of us agree that we will not get him in the summer as others who can offer European football will jump in.  Our current midfield players cost a total of £42 million .time to act big as well as talk big

    Great point!

Not that I want us to sell mcginn or we are even thinking about it but his price increase alone covers the Bissouma fee

I wonder if we need a few extra million to play with in FFP to hit Brighton's asking price. It could explain potentially loaning Targett out.

I also wonder if targett becomes an obligation to buy for newcastle then we can account for the profit this year

Leaving it a bit late to reignite our interest.

Can't see Brighton selling him now, and I can't see us signing him in the summer as the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd will be sniffing around.

I can see them potentially selling today, they have mwepu and recalled caiceido so don't really need to source a replacement

    Guimaraes done for under £35m.

Wonder if we were interested. I would have loved to sign him. Doubt he's on as much as Ings or Coutinho here.

Couldn't see a more ideal signing for us. We'll have a world beater on our hands if we sign anyone better than him in the summer.

Agree with this, think we missed a trick

Why is spurs in for him? They’re stacked in defensive minded midfielders

they need more attacking minded midfielders

    this chap ain’t that.

just strange that they’re in for Bentancur

Paratici and conte both familiar with him as a player I guess and must see him as an upgrade on winks/skipp whilst placating their fans a little after the diaz fiasco.

Funny to me how they lost their number 1 target to juve (vlahovic) and now want to effectively fund the move for them too!

Saw that last night. Seems too stupid to be real.

Imagine a lot of the delay just comes down to both clubs wanting to get the best price for them and we aren’t desperate, even if we don’t sign him so can hold out til deadline.

Yeah would seem odd wouldn't it

  14. Not sure if this has been posted but I found the below thread on twitter that seems to suggest if a fee below 20m (euros i guess) is agreed then Juve would owe Boca 10m as a flat fee vs. 6m if its 21m+, based on a %.

This may be why they are so pushy on the price...
