I agree with these grades. As a proud parent I’m happy with this report.

I’ll have a word with Barkley tonight and tell him to pull his finger out more, or he loses his PlayStation again.

I should also say how brilliant it is to have a team like this. Everyone of them has improved and we finally work as a team, there’s no negative attitudes as far as I can tell and they’re all very likeable. Onwards and upwards for this current crop of Villa boys!

    Makes you proud doesn't it?

If I was grading them so far on league performance

    A+ Jack, Martinez

A - Mings, Cash, Konsa, Targett, Watkins

    A- - Dougie, Bertrand

B - McGinn, Hause, El Ghazi, Trez,

C - Elmo, Nakamba, Barkley, Conor, Ramsey

    D - Davis

Not played enough to vote Neil Taylor

The last 2 are the only Villa players not to play over 100 minutes so far

    You missed Lansbury again!!  :)

Excluding Jack, who is obviously top:

    1. Martinez

    2. Konsa

    3. Targett

    4. Mings

    5. Cash

I didn't actually mean to just pick the defence, but these are the five players that sprang to mind when I thought about it. The improvement of our defence has been the foundation of our good season, and I have to assume Martinez and the calmness he provides is key to that.

As for the placement of the others, Konsa is our most consistently reliable defender, Targett's individual improvement is particularly impressive, Mings remains one of my favourite players for his overall presence and what he offers, and Cash has made an excellent start to life in the PL, almost like he's been here for years.

All five of them are interchangeable.

Fully agree with your comments....it's great to find some defenders in your selection. There has been an improvement in all of them and the new additions have settled in really well.

Can't argue with that list, really. Grealish is number one and the other 4 may as well be joint 2nd as they've all performed very well.

Agreed mate. We've had a great season in many respects. I think 2 more summer transfer windows will see us competing at the very top.

In terms of Overall quality (excluding Jack)

    Martinez, Mings, Luiz, Targett, Watkins

In terms of actual form (I.e performing over their ability) targett is number one by a mile. He went from being arguably our worst player in the first 5 weeks of the season to arguably our best player in all of the last 5 games.

I agree with a lot of that. I also found it tough to leave Ming's and Cash out of my 5

I think all of our players have performed so far this season at times that I dont even think we have a shittest player contender. Even the back up players have done something when asked

Agree 100% it's a good indication of how far we've come in such a short time!

Do you include Lansbury in your comment? :)

So a player who has moved half way across the world to ply his trade, had to suffer a career threatening injury at the hands of the biggest thug in English football, spent 12 months getting back to fitness so he can repay the faith put in him by the club, and having probably spent a significant part of that 12 months in pain.... is being called a waster. Defies belief.

Well said mate. Not forgetting he can't even socialise during the lockdown. Must be very strong mentally to cope with all that. Come on Wes, hope you prove lots of people wrong. We're not all haters on here.

Positive thing is that his valuation drops a million quid every time he plays.

At this rate Chelsea will be giving us £5m to offload him

    I'd want more than £5m mate :)

  9. Have you seen the stick Jordan Henderson gets at Anfield? And he's a CL and Pl winner

Fans always have a 'boo boy'. For me the only time it's acceptable to Boomie obvious lack of effort...see Lescott for details.

I remember my last trip to Villa Park, guy next to me in his 60s/70s wanted the ball played out to the right so he could boo and abuse Hutton when he had the ball.

    We were winning 😂😂😂

    Wow...that's pathetic in the extreme

I think he is struggling playing with Barkley more than anything, his form when Barkley was out was very good. The 2 of them in midfield is a poor partnership

    Agreed 100%

He just seems so uncomfortable with the ball at his feet lately.

Yep, agreed. I think his confidence is shot. He no doubt knows that his performances are below par. I would prefer him to play in the position that Barkley currently occupied with Sanson and Luiz behind him.
