Best wedding disaster I've witnessed was at my sister-in-law's wedding. They got married in Cancun, which was great, we had a week in a 5-star all-inclusive resort and I never paid a penny, so no complaints.
Anyway, my brother-in-law is Irish, and he's catholic, but his family more so, and it meant a lot to them to have a proper catholic wedding with a real priest. Luckily, it turned out the resort had its own real catholic priest, who was an American who, to my mind, seemed to be on the run from something. He gave a long, rambling sermon filled with bizarre metaphors and imagery, and then rounded it all off by inviting the assembled audience of family members to consider what a golden moment it would be when the groom inseminated the bride
Was at a wedding in the West of Ireland, years ago. Bride was a friend from work, they used the local, rather elderly priest, who fell asleep a few times during (the very long) service & made 2 references to "Sinead O'Connor's bastard child"! God only knows, we all looked at each other, shocked & then started to get the giggles... I'm also @ the beginning of the wedding video, outside the church having a smoke, calling one of my co-workers a rocket polisher

This sounds dumb, but it's so annoying to see all these countries have so many rescue dogs to pick from, yet the shelters here have almost none.
We've been discussing getting a dog. I was supposed to get a boxer last year, but then the breeder ghosted us for some reason. My gf claims it's easier to adopt a child in Norway than a dog, and I swear to god I think she might be correct. To get on a puppy list the breeders need to know EVERYTHING, and you're supposed to have a house, a garden, ideally a farm, kids, a car, live close to a dog park, never be away more than 4 hours +++. Absurd.
I still love boxers, but now the gf says she prefers us to get something smaller, since she is quite petite and we live in an apartment.
There are a few dogs I flat out refuse to get, especially these small paris hilton dogs and whatever. But she said she likes mini schnauzers and some terriers, but I'm wary about getting those to an apartment complex due to their barking.
It's difficult.
Ideally we want a dog that doesn't shed a lot, doesn't bark a lot and isn't too big. And I know that sounds like we don't want a dog, but that's kind of what the missus have said she wants. I can only think of border terriers and mini schnauzers, but they both tend to bark a fair amount afaik.
I also prefer a short coat to a long coat. Man it's difficult.
A small spaniel? My cousin used to breed Cavalier King Charles' - they're lovely dogs, very sociable. Also technically a 'toy dog' so apartment-appropriate or a beagle for short-haired?

Changing my delivery address with Asda .com. What a bunch of **** vegetables.
An online shop that won't let you change address and transfer your delivery pass online FFS, and an overseas call centre just adds to the annoyance.
Really? Jeez

Anyone with any experience of coming off SSRI’s for good after years of usage?
Sorry, was only on them for less than a year, 20+ years ago... you have to come off them gradually. You can't/shouldn't do it cold-turkey.

Sorry to read that matey. Where are you?
I know it’s a cliche but I’m hoping the spring summer sun helps make things feel better.

We've been told we'll be in a hard lockdown till at least June (we've been doing this since before Xmas). I'm not sure I'll cope. Live on my own & WFH, hardly see anyone. Struggle with depression already

The fact that I in my mid 30s and a pandemic have managed to develop IBS, I think anyway. Which I thought was a total crock of shite when I heard people complaining about it.
Really annoying as well cause it's ruined my favourite cereal, onions and mushrooms
Had IBS from 19 for a good 8 years. Various doctors said I was too young to have it. Awful stomach cramps, for hours on end, sometimes days. Particularly couldn't eat/digest red meat. Doc had me on limited diet & then reintroduced certain foods over time. Had to take muscle relaxants. Mine is completely stress-related. Over the years it's eased off/I'm more careful what I eat. It can flare up if I get too wound up though. My sympathies & good luck @KenjiOgiwara

I'd say probably the main reason at 35 I don't have children, despite a few relationships where that was on the cards, was I just felt completely unprepared to bring another human being into the world who would have to go through what you've described.
Maybe it's a convenient excuse for more general commitment phobia or whatever, but I have this genuine desire to be a parent who provides an emotionally stable environment to a child, and I'm terrified of not being capable of doing that.
QuoteWhen you come from a family with a history of mental health and alcohol / substance abuse problems, as I imagine most of us in this thread do to some extent, it's very hard not to worry that you "carry the gene".
It's quite uplifting to hear from people who have that experience lingering somewhere in the background, but haven't let it define them.
Both my parents are alcoholics (he's extremely violent). Home was a head-wreck, I've two younger sisters. I know I've an addictive personality, but gave up smoking 14 years ago and have had 9 bottles of cider since November (and 1 bourbon). I don't want to end up like them. Years ago i remember thinking I could just sit in a pub all day, but decided this wasn't a good course of action.
Then again it means everything is directed inwards, resulting in depression on and off the last twenty-odd years.
Unfortunately I'm attracted to people with addictive personalities. It would be so much simpler if someone would wear a badge: "Hi, my name is ___. I may be funny, charming and a bit cute but please be aware I'm 1) a binge drinker, 2) enjoy taking class As, 3) love Christmas, 4) don't vote and 5) am a narcissist". The red flags would be obvious. I would know when to nope the f*ck right out.
