I’d find it bizarre if we were done in the market. We’ve lost Grealish and replaced him with two right sided forwards and a striker? Strange goings on.

Just points to a tough season but one where we consolidate I guess. Just got to make sure we get to 40 points as quickly as possible. If Bailey and Buendia don’t impress, we could get dragged into a dogfight.

I would say replaced him with a very creative player, a speedy winger who can do it all and a  proven Premier League quality striker, all positions/qualities we wanted filling.
Also I look at Buendia and Bailey as two players on the cusp of the top top level, not as players that can fail so badly that we are mixing it in the bottom 5. I agree improvements can be made but with everything else going on in the world you should feel safe in the knowledge we will stay up comfortably.

I think we need to scrap the 4231 and go back to 433, at least until we have suitable players to play it. Luiz is back now and played his best football in a 433 for us also Sanson was in the training vid on Thursday or Friday so hopefully he is not too far away from returning. Mcginn needs to play as an 8, let him put challenges in higher up the pitch, cut off passing lanes and make late runs. Ramsey and chuk should also get more minutes in this system. I would be looking to start with 2 of Bailey, buendia and traore and one of ings or Watkins. This will give us more balance in the team and also added threat from the bench.

I would love us to get in a top dm to give the midfield a real balance and let the new 6 and luiz compete for the starting place. I like Nakamba and el ghazi but it is probably time for them to leave as I think we are at a point where we are progressing past their skills.

AEG probably lost 5mil in valuation on the weekend. Hes a good bench option but can’t see him repeating last years numbers, so if we get a good offer we sell.

We need a better Marv but we wouldn’t get much for him and he would be more valuable to us as a backup.

We have replaced Grealish’s output, not the player himself.

I’d be shocked if we didn’t bring in another attacking player to play alongside Buendia and Bailey in that front three behind either Watkins or Ings.

As things stand, all we’ve done is substituted our over reliance on Grealish with Buendia.

We need another creative player otherwise there’s no chance we’ll finish in the top 10 this season (In my opinion).

Bailey got 9 assists to go with his 9 goals last season. I think his pace and unpredictability will stretch oppositions and create space for others.

Exactly this. It's want it now attitude. Targett would've been replaced before beginning of last season if some had their way like a player has to hit the ground running or can't have a dip in form or it's replace replace replace

Cut that out, no agreeing with Aussies on Bledisloe Cup day.

And what have you found lets hear it 😂

Gouiri, Bellingham, Jens Petter Haug (who is apparently joining Eintract Frankfurt on a very cheap loan to buy £12m) and some guy called Mbappe who seems gettable.

  6. I’m a bit surprised at those worried about his age. 29 is peak for a footballer and due to better rehab, diet etc they don’t see skills fade as soon as they hit the 30s. Having someone who has proven consistency and can explain the intricacies to the kids is exactly what we needed.

  7. I think he will stay. Between the euphoria of keeping us up and the selling of the clubs vision he signed a new contract, obviously with assurances made. Fast forward a year and you would definitely say we hit our kpis, we have added EmiB to take some of the creative responsibilities off his shoulders, EmiM has emerged as world class and we are bidding on other players with serious class. And all the while he can see the talent pool in the u20s being stocked with potential. Now he can play most teams with swagger thinking we can outplay them, swap that to be a sub half a season and be just another star, not “the man”?

The difference is Grealish is often crowded out and doubled up on, and the majority of his short passes are the probing, risky type that leads to a tap-in for Ollie. Those are in dangerous, congested areas and are more likely to be cut out, but also cause havoc for the opposition. Context is key here.

FWIW I like McGinn, he's been brilliant for us. Given his journey with us if he's already hit his ceiling then he's done fantastically well. He will always be remembered fondly of he was to leave.

I still think he can do a job, though. Whenever he's had time to rest up he's come back looking like a world beater at times; he would benefit from some healthy competition.

We would be in a fantastic position if we had McGinn coming off the bench as a super-sub, able to go bananas for 30-40 rather than conserving his energy.

Back on Bailey, can we not sort a chant out that uses ‘feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme’ (If you know, you know)

I would expect Villa Park to sound like a Bob Marley concert
