I don't think we need one in January. There are enough worse teams in the league to suggest we'll stay up. I do think we need one or two new strikers in the summer, when there will be more players available at better prices.

It's the one position I think we desperately need to sign. We have a hit and miss performer as first choice and an unproven struggling to score second choice.

If we had signed Maupay I don't think this thread would have even been started. I know he's scored the same amount of goals as Wes, but in this team I reckon he would have had more.!

  2. Be interesting to see what team the dingles put out with Arsenal Saturday Europa mid week then us again in the PL, they haven't got a huge amount of strength in depth and probably need to prioritise and rotate.

  3. Not got a clue which way DS will go with this, but at a wild guess I feel it will be a mix no wholesale changes.

                                      Steer

    Elmohamady---Konsa---Mings----Targett

                 McGinn---Douglas---Hourihane

                   El Ghazi---Davis---Trezeguet

Subs: Nyland, Hause, Guilbert, Lansbury, Ramsey, Wesley, Kodjia.

He isn't blisteringly quick but he seems a lot better running with the ball than Wes.

I don't think I have actually seen Wes run with the ball at his feet! Normally dispossessed or a sideways pass.

We looked really light on the wings until Jack was moved there and now it doesn’t seem so bad.

Do you think we’ll try and sign a striker?

Have a feeling that will be our only signing during this window. Morelos I reckon.

Where have you seen that? Can’t say I know anything about him

It was mentioned on here at the time and as said above, seems to be doing the rounds in the media yesterday. Looks like we may have dodged bullet if he has 'issues'

If I have understood it correctly I think there is a smaller verision of AFCON in January 2020 which Marv won't be playing in, but the 2021 he will be eligible. See the following Birmingham Mail article:-

    Marvelous Nakamba in Birmingham Mail

Zimbabwe have already qualified for the 2020 African Nations Championship and will compete alongside 15 other countries between January and February in Cameroon.

However, nations in this lesser competition can only select players from their respective countries - meaning the likes of Nakamba will not take part, allowing the midfielder to stay with Villa throughout January.

The bigger, 24-team African Cup of Nations gets underway in the summer of 2021 and, next month, Nakamba and Zimbabwe kick-off their qualifying campaign for that tournament against Botswana on November 15 and Zambia four days later.

Algeria, this summers AFCON winners remember, are the other side in Group H with a fixture between Zimbabwe and The Desert Foxes scheduled for August 30, 2020.

No it was my mistake was thinking of the AFCON just getting mixed up with dates.

Even FIFA aren’t daft enough to have an AFCON in the summer and then the following winter... are they?!

Why? It's about as corrupt as it gets so why not foolish too........plus it every 2 years so wouldn't really matter 😎
