If we are relegated, then it's probably best we didn't win the league cup; With the season shortened by three weeks, 46 league games, plus both the domestic cups and then a dozen Europa league games wouldn't have made for the most comfortable fit.

Understand your point, but respectfully disagree. Trophies are defining moments for clubs and defining memories for fans. Beating Manchester City at Wembley would’ve been spectacular

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I find it a little strange how Jack hasn't posted anything to do with the whole #PlayersTogether thing considering a number of other first team players have and he's the captain.

Sounds like Mings is spearheading the operation. Not sure if that means he has been named captain or what

Does anyone think he should be stripped of his captaincy just for being out of his house without good reason? Irrespective of whether he was drunk/car crash.

For me the answer is yes: he should be showing why he is a leader at this time, rather than acting in a way that is wholly irresponsible.

We have a readymade captain waiting in Mings as well.

Thought the same. Give Mings the armband.

Right, but the fact that we are now in the Premier League, would indicate that we won more games than we lost.

Onto the second point, the likes of Leicester, and currently Sheffield United stretch that theory a little.

Obviously those are exceptions, point is, for a club of our stature, I can't find any positives to us being in the Championship aside from some "enjoyment".

I'd much rather aspire to finish in the top 6 - 10 of the PL than to be fighting for a playoff position in the Championship.

I’d argue that enjoyment is what football is all about. Why else do we watch?

It’s a stalling tactic. The government’s position hasn’t changed so there’s likelihood of any football for the foreseeable future. It’s a tough ask but it comes off as pure greed. They cannot expect there to be a fair playing field when key players return from injuries and the loss of supporters. For the FA and EFL, they will look to deflect blame on the government when it’s eventually cancelled. Hundreds died in Italy yesterday. This is so much bigger than football. The myopia and grandstanding is a growing embarrassment.

Yep, I completely agree. They’re making it publicly seem like there’s an intention to finish the season, and buying time until an external force (likely, the government) “forces” them into making a certain decision. Then they will have a scapegoat to point towards when the decision inevitably upsets somebody.

  6. I do not envy the position Prem officials are in. No matter what decision they make, somebody is going to be upset.

The only thing I can see saving them is some sort of government mandate. For instance, a ban on groups of more than 20 until September. Even then, officials would have to decide whether to scrap this season or the next one.

Problem being will the PL be liable to repay a bunch of TV and advertisement money  to companies across the world that they have already doled out to the clubs?

Could be billions depending on how the contracts look.

  8. Re: promotion/relegation

It’s the structure of the EFL that makes it hard for me to rationalize anyone being promoted or relegated. Every team plays every other home and away. It’s a balanced schedule for all. Cancelling the last 10 games takes away that balance.

I like this, but what about the 7 or 8 teams wity the playoff hopes.  They will inevitable sue saying their possible promotion has been removed.

Also, If they promote those in the current top 2 there is a precedent set to relegate those in the bottom 2.  I like the idea but 8 still don't see it flying.

The only option is to see the season out behind closed doors or play the games into the summer.

I’m no lawyer, but surely they couldn’t win that lawsuit? It’s a widespread public safety concern. The American collegiate athletics association (NCAA) have cancelled all of their tournaments until the fall. No champions at all. Not as large as the Prem, but a pretty massive deal in the States, especially with the Men’s basketball tournament

  10. I wasn’t sure where else to put this, but wanted to share.

Minnesota United held a twitter giveaway this winter, and I won a Villa flag. Not just any flag, the freaking massive flag they hold on the pitch as the players walk out pre-match. After Villa played MN United in a friendly this past summer, they had the whole Villa squad sign it. It’s absolutely gigantic, so somewhat hard to find a spot for, but it’s a really cool piece to commemorate my first time seeing Villa in person.

Felt sorry for him. We couldn't get him in the game.

Look at all the plaudits foden is getting. Imagine how good this kid would be in a team that has so much of the ball and quality around him.

He's gone what ever happens this season. Support is one thing but why waste another year of your prime with this squad?

I think if we stay up and he earns an English squad spot this spring/summer, he might stay. If he does leave, I certainly can’t fault him for chasing the Champions League and international football during his prime years. He’s Villa through and through, and playing for another squad won’t change that.
If he leaves, I’d like to see him leave England and go to a top side in the Bundesliga, La Liga, or Serie A. He’s my favorite ever Villa player, and it would be weird to be forced to cheer against him. I’d rather him go to a team that doesn’t play Villa so I can support Jack and Villa without any conflict of interest.

The problem is City are so good at times you can give it your all and still get spanked. We will need a lot of luck on our side today but anything can happen in a one off game. COME ON YOU VILLA!!

Having our boys give it their all is the only thing I care about. It’s the only chance we have to win. If we give it everything and lose, so be it. At least we went down swinging.

The only reason I’d be disappointed today is if we don’t give it a good go. I’d rather lose 10-0 and go down swinging than lose 4-1 with our tails between our legs for 90 minutes.

Either way it doesn’t matter, because we’re going to win.

You know what. If it didn't mean losing Jack I wouldn’t even care about getting relegated. I enjoyed our time in the championship but Grealish has been a joy to watch over the past few seasons and it will be a real shame to lose that.

I’ll agree with this. C’Ship was much more competitive top to bottom, every match was winnable by either side. The current Prem kinda sucks. I get no satisfaction from being the “best of the rest” trying to finish 7th and having nothing to show for it. Breaking into a European spot is possible, but the Prem simply isn’t a level playing field.

The only perk for me is that being in the Prem makes it much easier for me to watch Villa in the States.

  14. Jack scores a 90th Minute winner and runs straight up to grab the trophy with Deano, forcing the rest of the squad to defend extra time with only 10 men on the pitch and no manager.

In all seriousness, 3-2 Villa. Because why the f*** not. Do you want to bet against us?

  15. Felt much more anxiety at last year’s playoff final than I have going into this match, but in my opinion this is one of the top 2 biggest matches since I started following Villa in 2013.

2015 FA Cup Final v Arsenal and this coming Sunday are the only two chances we’ve had to win real trophies.

Winning the playoff last year was an unbelievable high, but finishing effectively 3rd in the Championship is nothing compared to winning a major domestic cup.

Give it a strong go on Sunday and make us f****** proud to be Villa, lads.
