1/3 is an acceptable return if his over all play is solid. Unfortunately it isn't.

Was 1/3 in Belgium league - never going to be the same in PL. Along with proven goalscorer very good option - but will never be leading goalscorer himself.

Given who we were playing, I thought that was probably his best game for us. Surprisingly solid and decent on the ball for the most part.

Had 2 or 3 very bad passes wich unfortunatly many of the supporter are judging hes overall performance off. But to be fair he had very good game apart from these bad passes. Always did the right thing in the defencive role and positioned himself brilliantly throughout the game.

If you look at the two positions they're talking about it's McGinn v Andre Gomes. As much as I love McGinn Gomes was in and out of Barcelona team and had a good season at Everton. Then you have Jack v Glyfi Sigurdsson. Glyfi is excellent number 10 player at premier league and international level as I'm sure @Jonsi77 would confirm so Jack still has a way to go yet.

Everton have spent a ridiculous amount over last 2-3 years, it's been underachievement on their part they haven't pushed top 6 closer.

Gylfi, Richarlison, Gomes, Bernard, Digne all players in very good class in PL. Gylfi was10th highest goalscorer in PL last season the only midfielder on that list - huge portion of assists for hes teams in PL last years. Huge test on friday but everything is possible.

After you're fascination with Bjarnason I am not sure if I should take you seriously with that. 😆

What fascination was that? That he could be good squad player for Villa? There are two serie a club which have offer him contract and they are both stronger than Villa. So i guess someone else agree with me.

Somehow I think the things you think it is or might be would be disagreed with by a lot of people here.

What does it say out of curiosity?

15 million pound investment not in squad and not injured. Not good enough. If you think something else than you are not in reality. That kind of investment would be in the squad.

The average spend per player was about £10millon. (Not sure if you heard the interview with purslow, but he confirmed that - 12 new players, about £120millon spent not including add-ons).

So, when you look at it like that we have bought 12 x 10million pound players to replace the 12 that we released at the end of last season. You’d expect that some of those were better quality than what we had previously, maybe, but they weren’t premier league proven.

So, actually, I don’t think our expectations should have been that we will ‘do a wolves’ this season, but instead survival was what we are aiming for.

I think it was good signings with englishplayers, tez, engels luiz.Club brugge players are huge questionmark. First 8-10 games will be very though and probably few points. Than the points will increase with more established team.

Taylor is a player, i would like to play against.

He never had a bad game yesterday, but that in itself is a form of deception.....He has some flashes of good stuff, be he doesn't hunt the ball down, just stays cautious and comfortable in his own half....he ventures out on occasions and late in the second half took half an hour to read a  ball laid off for a cross.....He is indecisive and tentative, not a pre- requisite for this league.

We will not get up to the level we require to compete in this league with players like Taylor.

Taylor played 4 or 5 season in PL for swansea and was one of the best player in that team, always sollid. Starter in Wales for many years. I think many supporter have already decide that hes not good enough. Hes keeping 15 million pound player on the bench and for me he is better player.

By that logic, the Chinese league must be out of this world. Money does not equal quality.

Thats because of distance. China have to pay because of their distance. 5 k european player would have 50 k in China.

Personally the only job (Whelan & Jedi) these could do for us in the prem - is to help see a game out with 20 minutes to go .

Could the club justify a year's salary for them to come on and help us mop up a few games ? - it would seem not - for better or worse the club have gone for younger rookie players - who will hopefully be major assets for us in due course.

They have shown over and over they aren't about throwing cash at short term fixes . I think we should respect that.

First year in Pl is the hardest one and most teams try to have experienced player in the squad. 15-20 min with exp.players could win games - and at the end keep team from relegation.

    This is all very subjective:

    1) I think Club Brugge is a lot better than the bottom half of the championship, maybe bottom half of the PL is more their level.

    2) he has about 20 caps so far, so there is national team experience

    3) it would have saved us transfer fees for the replacements, true, and they do have premier league experience. But as other have mentioned, PL experience doesn’t mean they’re good. Richards, lescott, Richardson, all had a lot of PL experience. That didn’t really help us, did it?

Avarage week salary in club brugge is 5k - 50k in premier league. If its premier league standard on club brugge than this players should get themeself new agent.

    Jedinak and Bjarnason?

They would be torn apart at this level, they are barely good enough at Championship level.

Ok my norwegianfriend :) than why have two stronger than Villa seriea team offer bjarnason contract. I know you love Bjarnason - torn apart are you ok?almost 30 years old man dont talk like that.

  13. Proven 100+ games for me. Taylor, Jedi and Whelan all 35 born 84. All have 100+ games and a lot of national team games. There are players who dont look like pl class in Championship. Totally different games. Taylor and Elmo where in start in last game and it did not surprise me. Bjarnason is 31 born 88.

So what about Hibs up there in Scotland? What about Genk?

What about Basel itself who we go Thor from?

I'll tell you something mate, I really liked Bjarnsson, Especially in his second season. I was saying that we must play him. But his last run wasn't as good, his passing and whole play isn't as good. He had a goal or assist in him but to be honest I think the best thing for all parties is him to go.

I like Iceland as a country (I have visited it and really had some connection with it) but the second reason for me to follow them at the world cup was Thor himself.

Anyway fair play to him, he want somewhere to play as a starter. He would have been a 4th DM choice here.

Why are you talking about bjarnason? Whelan and Jedinak are proven Premier league players and would have been huge asset in the first year of PL. Bjarnason has offer from two serie a team which are both stronger than Villa. I like Villa and want theme to do well in PL and saying my opinion is part of that.

That's all fair enough. But it's not chump change. If you're going to spend £12m on a player you're going to give him every chance to prove himself before making a call as to whether he's a nailed on starter, rotation or backup.

There would have been plenty of opportunities to recruit a capable backup from the Championship or elsewhere for a half that price (e.g. that Vucovic fellow we were supposedly after) and saved money, but the fact that we actively pursued, paid good money (and probably over the odds) for and ultimately got Marv over the line suggests that Smith fully intends to use him.

It may well turn out that he is not much chop and significantly behind other players in the pecking order, but given the price we paid I think he'll be given every chance to prove otherwise.

Club brugge is similar team as botton half of Championship at best. Signing player from this team is huge risk. If he had proven nationalteam exp. it would have minimised the risk. Whelan Jedinak and Bjarnason would have save a lot of money for Villa and add guarentee experience at same/similar level.

Well then we need to prepare for relegation!
We finished 5th in the Championship last year so we better hope our new recruits are decent otherwise we're in trouble!

Mings and Heaton top signings. The other big questionmark. Could be good after christmas
