I've yet to really be 100% convinced by Coutinho so far...BUT at that price, it's a gamble you'd be mental not to take. Excellent value for the potential upside of him rediscovering that £140m form!

Sure I've seen that Gaz Williams around on twitter - think he is undergoing treatment for a fairly severe illness atm so even if the club is still a joke, it's nice they've done something like that for him. I lost my dad to cancer last year, and pre-Covid the Villa Foundation got him and my mum tickets in one of the executive boxes for the home game against Burnley. Nice to acknowledge long-term fans going through a tough time, even if their choice in club is questionable

Pretty pedestrian affair. We were poor, Norwich were worse. It is what it is, we're safe and I can't wait for the season to end TBF.

Regardless of the optimism or pessimism, I absolutely loathe the Carragher and Neville era of commentary, and long for the days where there'd be a bit of professionalism and they'd at least pretend to be neutral.
Fed up of feeling like I'm watching Man United or Liverpool fan TV when they play.
Yep absolutely, I don't mind them generally but when they are commentating on Liverpool or United games it is Fanzone all over again. And even when United or Liverpool aren't playing, for example on a Monday night, they'll spend from 7 till 7:50pm talking about either of them. Then 5 mins about the teams actually involved, full of poorly researched cliches, another 5 mins of adverts then bam, kick off.

The hyperbolic pity-party that Neville conjures up every time they lose a game on TV does my nut in. "It's a disgrace, it's as bad as it gets, they're a nothing team." Gary mate, you're sixth. You've spent a billion quid. You were still in the Champions League a fortnight or so ago. Have some perspective.

Really pleased for him, top lad.

Keeping it tight for the first twenty minutes would be lovely. Anything after that is a bonus.

You say that.....but if we don't get the recruitment right, it does me too.
And with this being such a crucial summer for us, I feel very unsure about giving the funds for a rebuild to a manager who's pretty much a rookie with only a middling job in the SPL on his CV.

We’ve signed Coutinho Digne and chambers, tried to sign Hickey. Gerrards not stupid, first the narrative was he was going to bring players from rangers with him. Now it’s he’s giving old Liverpool mates their last pay day
Sorry, I'm really yet to be convinced that he's "not stupid". Thoroughly underwhelming first 6 months here for him.

Explain this? Are you basing this off our January transfer window? Or is it irrational worrying fed by the media
Just a gut feeling, a rookie manager bringing in players he knows. Not exactly an off the wall prediction, I would've said.

We 100% are not going down this year, but on current form will probably finish 15th or 16th. My worry is for next season after Gerrard has had the chance to bring in some former Liverpool journeymen.
Edit - we are now below **** Newcastle

I assume you have a few members in mind but I won’t ask who, but a lot of the big voices on here are season tickets holders like myself.
Yup, season ticket holder here. And in all the home games so far, I’ve really yet to see a great deal to get excited about, or to make me confident that Gerrard spending £100m this summer is miraculously going to fix all our problems.
As others have said, the real fear behind this “success now” approach is that we end up exactly where we were back in 2010/11 with Habib Beye and Steven Warnock picking up mega wages despite being **** useless.
Smith was beaten with the stick of this squad being good enough for Europe, so why now is 4 wins since the turn of year deemed sufficient? At some point before this season is over, Gerrard is going to have to get something resembling a tune out of what he’s already got without just shrugging and saying “check back after I’ve spent another £100m”

I can honestly understand your point of view. However I’m not quite there yet. That will come probably 10 games into the new season if things have not dramatically improved assuming he gets what he wants in the summer. The only caveat I would add to this Is that I’m scared to death of what he will do in the summer, If he gets it badly wrong it could set us back years
Exactly this. There’s no basis, proven pedigree or track record of him doing what we need this summer in a competitive league. If our players are as bad as he says they are (which I don’t necessarily believe) then it’s going to be a huge job, and I think it’s fair to question his credentials for it.

He has no credentials for a squad revamp.
Feels like the was the summer to go after the big targets. Last year sort of was but losing Grealish clouded it.
Fiction.
Doesn't always happen though Steven. Most managers aren't given blank cheques to sign whoever they want.
Correct.
Maybe they're low on confidence having been threatened they will be sold should they play badly.
Laughing stock according to who? Couldn't give a toss who thinks whatever about us.
Could be five next week, then Deano comes to town...
We need a favour from the old boss there because that will get unpleasant in the ground if we lose to Norwich.
Agree with all these points. I’m really not comfortable with giving a bloke, who did a pretty average job in Scotland, the reins for yet another rebuild at this club.

Don’t spoil the narrative (one that was written before the match even started).
Easy to write it before the match started because it panned out exactly the way we all knew it would, to be fair.

Absolute shite. Gerrard once again sat on the bench with his finger up his arse as the pendulum swung very obviously away from us. Glad that a) we have to wait two **** weeks to play again to wash the taste of this out of our mouths and b) the costs for next season are going up. Love my club.

Think we're going to get absolutely slapped.

I don't want Gerrard sacked at all, but I'd be lying if I said I was enthralled by his tenure thus far as Villa boss. Pretty underwhelming for me, on the whole.

Would very much like to beat these "European giants"

Best thing to do would be to scrap VAR, have 5 "ref's" with one in the middle as now and two behind the goal + 2 linespeople.
Every decision is made by each ref with a small "yes or no buzzer", it's anonymous but if 3 of the 5 ref's think it's a foul/pen/free kick etc, then that buzzes the central ref who blows his whistle.
It should take a split second to determine the decision, if only 2 of 5 or less ref's want a decision then the game plays on/decision is ignored.
The beauty of football is that it's fluid, this solution takes away the stopping and starting, whilst also not being left to 1 person on the pitch and an anonymous person in some TV bunker. It's a majority vs minority and that tends to work better and would help ref's with the difficult decisions.
We already kind of had this solution a few years ago with the ref's behind the goal for Europa was it? I thought it worked quite well.
This, but they turn around on big chairs like on The Voice.

The amount of United fans crying about the ref last night, now they know how the rest of us felt for 30 odd years!
-
I knew we'd signed a world class flair player in January, I just didn't think it was Calum Chambers!
-
I can forgive just about anything as long as Glorfindel is featured in some capacity, I was gutted that he didn't get included in the films. They will 100% turn Galadriel into Xena though, despite the fact she's already a perfectly badass character in her own right.

Think he'll go to West Ham personally as I have a feeling Rice will go to Chelsea or United. If the Boubacar Kamara links are genuine then that seems a potentially better option.
