To get top 6 you need a squad that has 4-5 players that perform every week and then the rest who can perform at least every other week, who can you say that applies to in our team? I don’t think we even have 3 players that perform every other week. We’re bang average and the league table is telling us that loud and clear…

well, i said top 8, top 6 imo is completely unrealistic, we need to aim for top 8 to begin with, and tbh.....even that seems unrealistic unless we have a fairly large overhaul in the summer.

  2. its pretty simple.

Most of the players many adore on here, and defend to the hilt, are simply not very good most of the time, and simply not good enough for where we want to aim.

If we want to challenge for top 8 this team needs a major overhaul, prob 4-6 players in this squad are good enough for a top 8 challenge, the rest are mid to lower table quality.

Smith had a similar scenario with regard to not being able to get this squad playing, although his tactics didnt help i dont think, or maybe the tactics were because he realised how limited we are.

We have improved under Gerrard, the stats back this up (its a marked improvement also), but its still clear that 50% of this team is simply just not good enough, and couldnt hit a barn door with a 5 yard pass.

regardless, we have spent 350m on players in the last 3 years, i think we have made some good signings, but also some very poor ones.....350m.......let that sink in for a second, when half our team cant pass the ball 5 yards and we have zero aggression or control in the middle.

I liked Gavin McCann, steady on there Zatman.

Agree with you on Luiz though, I'd be unhappy if he didn't stay.

We should be playing both Ramsey and Luiz in their natural positions with a new signing linking defense and midfield just sitting.

in an ideal world, the only player of our current midfield 3, i would like to see starting there next season, is Ramsey.

My one game was a Minnesota Wild one and they were playing their big rivals (think it was Colorado or someone). The away fans didn't chant once the entire game and the home fans continually chanted the same song nonstop... "let's go wild... Let's go wild... Let's go wild." obviously an imaginative bunch.

i think its fairly well documented that American sports supporter chants are a bit.....basic.

I have seen a few vids of Americans watching/listening to English football noise and chants, and being quite surprised in relation to ...... "we dont do anything like that here".

I could be wrong tho ofc.

They've got jiminez and nevez out haven't they?  I recon 0-1 watkins

    yeah they have.

With no Neves or Jiminez, its probably the best reasonable chance we would have of getting a win.

This is Villa though, so i would never expect that ofc.....

He’s going to get everything he wants here. Dont mess it up now Stevie

he looks so happy with that, i almost expected him to break in to a song and dance!

  7. i think if we buy a top DM in the summer, Nakamba will be more than adequate backup.

Will then allow us to either allow Luiz to challenge for the no.8 positions, or sell Luiz, depending on what happens.

I highly doubt we agreed an option to buy of just 15m.... 20 odd I can believe.

    £15m + the loan fee

    Its about right for him

yeah, i would imagine we probably get a decent loan fee for him, then a reported 15m fee plus the loan fee, might actually take it closer to 20m, or just above, i dunno.

the touted 15m ofc doesnt factor the loan fee, which makes it look worse than it probably is once you factor in everything (loan fee, wages not on books, plus the set fee etc)

Even if Toon dont take him, we could then sell him for 15-20m to another team, but we had already pocketed the Toon loan fee and wages off books, so could prob even make more if Toon didnt take him (assuming we do sell).

  9. i know many may be against it, but how do you all feel about Stadium naming rights?

It would always be Villa Park to me, and i see why ppl wouldnt like it, but....i also kinda think that if it would help us progress, maybe it is something we should consider?

Some reports imply that a "good" Stadium naming rights agreement, is probably the third biggest funding income stream for teams that choose to do it, so if the right deal could be found, it could help our finances a bit?

    This would be most acceptable.

to be brutally honest, i havent been that impressed with Johnson when i have watched him.

I mean, yeah he's good, but i have seen he quite a few times now, and he has never blown me away when i have seen him play.

We also could still have their no 6/8 too.

Luiz isnt a regular, he's barely a fringe player, the last time he was selected in the squad was Oct 21 (came on as a sub),  he hasnt been selected in the last 3 squads, and the time prior to that where he actually got some minutes was late 2020.

There has been no precicident for this league, its one of the possible punishments however.

well, if they dont, it will kinda set a precedent for other teams to break FFP and put all their chips in trying to get europe, cus no real consequences (at least until you go over FFP by 300m and get "working in conjunction with the FA to manage your finances".

Also, how can you explain to the teams in lower leagues that they get points deductions and some were relegated from this punishment, but PL teams are "special" so dont?

I think the biggest issue is the fairness of it, try explaining no points deduction for Everton, to Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and the others.....

Gonna be interesting to see what happens.

Be interesting to see what happens to Everton if they survive. Will they be deducted points?

there isnt any talk of a points deduction is there?
