As for the game, it must have been embarrassing for Scottish football to see a team that finished 5th last season, get so thoroughly out-classed.
They chose to play very narrow in an attempt to stop Watkins charging down the middle, and left Digne all the space and time he needed, to send his crosses in, for an early aerial bombardment by Villa.
It was great to see Villa romp home but it confirmed my doubts about the quality of the competition.
Not at all, we were expecting it and many thought Villa would score more. Liverpool put 7 passed The Rangers not so long ago. If you had got out of first gear then who knows what the score would be?
When you have 2 squads , one worth around half a billion and the other pushing 12 million it's not rocket science to know what is going to happen. Hibs players are probably on 3-5 k per week..........what are the Villa ones on?? ............if you can only afford to pay peanuts we know what you get.
Hibs on paper should not have made this tie as they were totally inferior to Luzern but to their credit they found a way to win and for this I give them credit. This was proved by the number of fans who stayed till the end to applaud the efforts not only of Hibs but also John McGinn and his team mates . We don't see that quality of opposition and although it turrned into a friendly type game we appreciated the skills on show . If we had been 5 . 0 down to one of the uglies or the JTs nobody would have been there on 90 minutes!

I think I heard this on a podcast previewing the game but I’ve checked and it’s true, but Hibs two most expensive signings ever are both players who we signed. Second is John McGinn who they bought for a million and sold to us for £3.75m and their club record signing and only other player they’ve ever paid more than a million for? Ulysses de la Cruz.
Believe me that spending that much on pre season is unusual and we were surprised that the club had forked out so much! One of those was injured in Luzern last week so we are not even seeing him play.
de la cruz was our most expensive player at 700,000.
It's a different World so enjoy the English Premier League whilst it lasts

Solid professional performance in what could have been a tricky tie. Only gripe and very minor is we could have gave a youngster a few minutes at the end instead of Cash
Hibs gave there all but ran out of gas, I thought the forward Youan looked the most dangerous of them but the Hibs fans were booing him
Pure frustration Zat. He tends to be able to beat a man or 8 but then will try to beat them all again with no thoughts about passing or any end product. What they forget is that he is our only player that tries to do this and now Boyle is not 100% the only one with any pace. Our best effort yesterday came from him early in the second half where similar to his goal in Luzern, he cut inside and got his shot away only for Olsen to tip it over the bar.......................Hibs fans forget this and only remember all the headless chicken runs he made.

Hibs are bad even for the SPL, but given their budget compared to Villa's the scoreline isnt a surprise.
Very true ..........about both points .

Happy with that, Had all the Jocks I work with/Know out here telling how Hibs/Scottish PL will steam roller us!!!!
Great result, nice Hat-trick for Ollie, Digne class with the crosses and good to see Carlos get a Full 90 under his belt..
Once this team clicks its going to hell of a ride.
Well that must have been said with tongue in cheek as that was never going to happen. Either that or they are thinking of the 1970s when we did hold our own against Liverpool , Leeds and other top sides in Europe. Money now dictates that the SPL cannot compete anywhere near the level of the other top European Leagues especially the Premier League.
There was an expectation that Villa would win easily and in fact Villa scored less than many thought would happen. Due to this the crowd weren't as vociferous as they would have been against the likes of the bigot brothers or Hearts. ( plus there is very little malice towards Villa ...........this would have been different if the Villa fans had started chanting Engerland or even worse the National Anthem.........you would have seen and heard some reaction then ) Pleased to see a fair amount of the crowd stayed till the end to applaud Villa and especially John McGinn.
Well done to the Hibs singing section "Block 7" for keeping going for the whole 90 minutes.........not easy when your team are chasing shadows for that time and are 5 down.

Went exactly as I said .
Villa went strong to put the tie out of sight. Can now rest main players next week ready for the trip to Anfield.
This result will start to put R2D2's ( Lee Johnson) job on a shoogly peg again so thanks for that..................especially if we lose to Livi on Saturday.
Good luck in the group stages and lets hope you can get through to the knockout stages.

Could do with getting his season going with a goal as well.
Won't get a better chance than today against our back 4.

I don't really pay much attention to Scottish Football.
Anyone who does, how good are Hibernian? I mean, what kind of standard in England would they be, lower Prem, upper Championship?
Having watched a bit of English football ( was as at Barnsley last week in div 1 ) I would think Hibs would fit into Div 1 with the present squad., maybe lower third of the Championship but certainly no higher.

As an Aussie I have seen quite a bit of Martin Boyle. He's got some pace and industry about him and can hurt you if he gets in behind the defence.
We should be going into this at close to full strength. We can tinker with the lineup in the group stage games but at this stage we have to get the job done.
Unfortunately not quite back to full pace after his latest ACL op and recovery. Unlikely to last 90 minutes.

You underestimate our ability to mess up what should be straightforward.
Born in Hall Green and have followed Villa since the 70's and supported them home and away till the 90's .......................so I know all about the shock results

Who would you say are your best players and who are the weaker links in the Hibs team. Will you go full strength tonight?
If we can get the ball to them in the Villa half then Youan and Boyle are the only players with any pace and can hurt teams. Dylan Vente is new to us but looks like a natural predator in front of goal.
However I doubt they will see much of the ball as the midfield is weak and the defense is prone to mistakes. You can get away with these much of the time in the SPL but against a good Premier League side they will be punished. Our best midfielder is the SHA fan Joe Newell but I doubt he will get forward much tonight as it will be all hands to the pump tonight at the back. Add in the fact Marshall in goal is prone to giving gifts to opposition forwards and it doesn't bode well.
We have lost a couple of players that would make our first team who are out injured but generally speaking we will be as strong as possible.

Will you give us a rendition of Sunshine on Leith tonight? Is it a sellout? I am sure it will be a good game and good natured.
There is talk of singing SOL before kick off with the idea being 50 . 50 amongst Hibs fans. I doubt it will happen as apart from a pre match tribute to Ron Gordon after he died recently, the song is played after a great result ( cup finals, beating Rangers , Celtic , Hearts etc) .........................obviously we don't sing it often but is always special when done so.
The game is sold out.

No need to worry folks. In first legs recently liverpool put 7 passed The Rangers and spurs put 5 passed Hearts. With our defense and lack of a midfield I will be happy to keep it to 5
Hibs fans will be there in large numbers tonight but very few with have any real expectations of anything positive coming from the first leg.
I've seen some comments about Joe Newell recently on here but give him some slack as he is having to share his house at present with three ardent Villa fans including his girlfriend and brother. His best man for his wedding later this year , also Villa, has a picture of him in his younger days wearing a Villa top which if he misbehaves or speaks too much about SHA has promised it will surface at the wedding on large screens.

I believe you will go fairly strong for the first tie in order to put the tie out of reach, bearing in mind you have Burnley this Sunday but after the home tie next week you go to Anfield on the Sunday where it will be nice to have many of your top players nicely rested for that big test. ( no disrespect to Burnley)
Talk about going from one extreme to the other next week...........one moment you're against a Scottish pub side in front of a large Villa home support and then 3 days later you are at Anfield.......say no more!'
As for Neil Lennon he should stick to Irish football and of course Celtic. As for being physical he hasn't seen our general speed so we will end up chasing shadows for most of the night..........you've got to get near them first Neil!

Any Villa fans heading up to the game, feel free to visit St.Mirren FC Stadium (SMISA) which is only 5 mins from Glasgow Airport. This is where your captain was moulded. Came through the academy here, making his professional debut as a teenager and won a major honour in Scottish League Cup. Definitely think, spending some cash in the shop on some Saints merchandise, would honour SJM…lol
Nice ground as well

These did go to general sale on Hibs site but sold out now it looks like.
All tickets were removed last night at 5pm. They go back on general sale today at 10.00am.
The sections in the South stand are next to the official Villa fans.

Will the fringe being on mean it's about £500 for a hotel room?
Premier Inn in Newhaven ( north east edinburgh) is under £200 for the Wednesday night at present. Can then get either the number 11 bus or the tram to the game..........take about 30- 40 minutes including the walk to the ground. ( I'll be on the bus )

Aye John.......was fortunate to see him play in both the green of Hibs and claret and blue of Villa.

Can't play Thursday because Hearts and Hibs aren't able to play at the same time as they don't always get on very well.
Can't play later on Wednesday as no global events are allowed to overlap with the Champions League ever.
More to do with the amount of policing required with both Greek and Villa fans in town along with Hibs and Hearts ........plus add the fringe idiots in and they are stretched.
Hibs and Hearts both played at home yesterday at the same time with no trouble to speak of.

Aye that's Salisbury crags beneath Arthurs Seat. Slightly better view is from Carlton Hill at the bottom of Prince's Street .
Not sure how much of the pitch you can see but you'll have a perfect view of our singing section in the Famous Five Stand. Villa fans will be in the stand with its back to you.
Don't believe it won't be busy as with the fringe still on the whole place is manic.
Fortunately for the Villa fans they will be as far away as possible from the two drums the singing section use.

Funny that as I was next door to the Villa and I never heard it. If you want to do it with style and volume you need to study The Rangers fans ..........they really belt it out and the hibs will respond with gusto
