  1. Any appointment is a gamble and it will come down to how the Board see it.................experience at this level against a left fielder.

Eyebrows were raised here when Tony Mowbray was appointed out of the backroom at Ipswich with no experience but proved to be one of the best we have had in the last 20 years or so. The same also was true to a certain extent with Stubbs. However he has now failed at 2 follow up clubs in Rotherham and St Mirren.

  2. Someone with good experience in the Championship or higher  who has a genuine passion for the game and the Club he is in charge of.

We have had a few left field appointments who have proved to be excellent, eg Mowbray, Stubbs  but this is a different League / pressure and I don't think you can beat that experience.

  3. Sunshine On Leith is an incredibly hard song to sing .......even for someone who can sing.

It is only sung perhaps once or twice a year by the fans after either an important Cup victory or after beating Hearts etc (so some years it is never heard! ? ) and it has to have the record in the background to get the timings and phrasings correct........no chance JM could have pulled it off ?

  4. Interesting points about if attention is directed at him it will allow Grealish more room and time. This certainly happened at Hibs where teams obviously targeted  McGinn but in doing so allowed our other midfielders to operate more freely. This worked well for us last year as we had then ( both left now ? ) 2 other lads who could exploit this extra time and space. Hopefully your midfield and especially Grealish can do the same.

When you have 2 midfielders like McGinn and Grealish teams will struggle to mark them both out the game / kick them both up in the air .Fortunately McGinn showed he is not fragile and could take the hard man tactics without always being out injured.

  5. Aye mjm.......totally different from the modern squad game. When we turned up to see the Villa we could name the side before it was announced, barring injuries.

  6. So sad to hear this.

Was the Villa manager through a large part of my Villa supporting days through the 70's and have fond memories of following him and his teams in that era.

Some great days and memories...........................thanks for that Ron.

Thoughts are with him and his family.

I was so disappointed when I saw Jack taking a corner! Let McGinn take them!

Funnily enough I never thought his corner taking for Hibs was that good and last season preferred to see Scott Allan and this season Mallan take them.

When I watched the highlights of the Villa game I was impressed with McGinns corners and don't know if that was due to better and stronger players in the penalty area making more of them as each one looked dangerous.

As I have said before I will wait 5 or 6 games and see how he progresses and how opposition managers set their sides up to play him now they know more about him. We found up here he started to be kicked up in the air as soon as he was on the ball and he didn't get much protection from the referees. Some better sides would man mark him and take him out the game that way.

I won't ask about Wigans first goal.............thought I was watching Scottish football again. ?

  8. Aye pozbaird.......it shouldn't be forgotten St Mirren first developed him ( and of course his brother is still there)  before moving to Hibs who took him further. Now Villa can take him that next important step towards the real big time.

Good luck today v the huns.

  10. He is still developing so is an unknown quantity at your level. Mentally very strong and on his day can pass the ball superbly.

It was always assumed especially by Smeltic that he would go there so no other Scottish Clubs came in ( apart from the huns  nobody else could afford him) and although he had talks with Bournemouth he chose Villa.......wanted to join a big club?

  11. Hi, another Hibby wishing Villa all the best for the new season and hopefully promotion to where they belong and will be watching the development of SJM with interest.

My teenage years were spent one week at the back of the Holte and the next following the claret and blue wherever.

Then I went to University in Edinburgh and had to choose between the 2 sides as to who to follow. I chose the green of Hibernian over the maroon of Hearts as it didn't seem right to support another with those colours and the rest is history. Now live in Edinburgh , a season ticket holder at Easter Road and they have given us the greatest day of my supporting career when winning the Scottish Cup in 2016 for the first time in 114 years..........or was it Rotterdam in 82????
