Yes, I think that's the one. They're claiming he thought he was shooting his taser, right?

Seems either very implausible or an excellent argument against giving police tasers.

Apparently it is a she mistakenly pulled a real gun. BBC
Training? Heat of the moment? US gun society ... etc etc

I see police have shot and killed a black guy just outside Minneapolis during a traffic stop, should help the remainder of the Derek Chauvin trial go real smooth.

Are you referring to the wrong gun shooting. If so, not a problem really, honest mistake.

On the subject of speeding... I don’t get the thing where drivers flash to indicate a speed trap. How do you know that’s what they’re flashing about!?

In Canada it could be there is heard of elk at the side of the road. They don't care if you're speeding.

In my part of rural Canada we have nice wide empty mostly straight roads ... speed limit usually about 90 km/h, normally speed at 100 km/h (~60 mph). Come to the UK to visit relatives in the UK, these rural windy narrow highways with high hedges for extra poor visibility and people driving at breakneck speeds (or at least what it seems like to me) in the fog makes it interesting.

  4. Only watched the last 30 min

I thought the Villa were deserved of the 1:1 score ...  the L'pool goal aside .. In fact I thought Villa was playing some attractive stuff, pressing in Liverpool's half.

The bit I saw as an attractive game to watch.

  5. Fined once ... 117 in a 100 km/h .... 20 minutes south of Britstown ... middle of nowhere. (South Africa, ca 1982)

Warned  once,  106 in a 80 (ca 1989) . The RCMP officer must have been really good mood that day. The speed limit on that road was upped to 90, then 100 and dropped back down to the current 90 km/h.

Regarding the collaboration, according to Wiki "In May 1946, Hergé was issued a certificate of good citizenship, which became largely necessary to obtain employment in post-war Belgium." Hergé himself was a conservative and Catholic in his views.

    I was an Asterix kid.

    Get your own thread.

Must of been about 2002 in Belgium, I wanted to get a set of Tintin videos for my son. Found a small video store and asked for a set of Tintin videos. The store owner had less English than I had French. He did  not have a clue what I was talking about. Eventually he cottoned on I meant Tantan. He did not have any.

As a kid, I would go to the library in King's Heath and loan out Tintin books, as an adult I always thought the books had an amazingly subtle humour. I have a fairly complete set now. Though in today's world Herge might not be politically correct, but I can live with that. Eventually got a video set in Vancouver.

The film I thought was OK, but not the same as the books.  Destination Moon and Explorers were the pinnacle for me.

I always wonder how someone can get elected, when they have weighed the evidence and have come to the conclusion that an angel came to a lady called Miriam (or whatever it is in Aramaic), foretold of some kind of divine birth, and that the resulting child will be the son of god or some prophet, is a reasonable proposition to move forward. Sorry long sentence. And perhaps wrong thread.

Solihull is a large district, the second biggest (after Birmingham) in the county of West Midlands and bigger even than Wolverhampton and Coventry combined. Solihull has more than twice the population of Sutton Coldfield and is around 9 times the size so I assume it’s better suited than Sutton Coldfield to be administered separately from Birmingham. Sorry VTers, this definitely belongs in the Boring thread!

Solihull in the boring thread? Nooooah!

    Ahhh, ok.

    You're welcome

But more on topic ... I gather Villa were pretty dire for the first seventy minutes or so and were relatively entertaining for the last twenty. So this should be a really good teaching moment for Smith and the team. Hopefully Dean can highlight to the team what were the secrets of doing well and show them what he wants to see from the team in the coming matches.

To me this is a huge positive, it shows the team can play attractive football even in their current form.

Not had this spending power since the early years of MON either.
Looking at the fixture list it looks horrendous. Have to play Everton twice as well.
I think a top half finish is very unlikely. Messed up in the "winnable" games and it's catching up to us.

This is quite possibly true ... I don't know.

But the important thing is to find someone to blame.

Oh wait this is the Dean Smith thread.

Had to drive past the shithole today.

It's difficult to convey in words how awful the ground is and what a mess the surrounding areas are. Why someone would even consider buying even 1% of a tip like that, I have no idea. I know Wheldon wanted it for the scrap metal, but that was different.

I just did a Google drive-by on Cattel Rd. Barely recognized the place ... Fifty years ago I used to go along that route to school. (54 Bus).

It is a lot better now than in the middle and late sixties.

It'll be the land not the building

Flattening it for £3 a day car park would probably earn them more money.

The demolition costs won't be trivial even if the thing is falling down by itself.

I would guess several million. Any idea how to get a valuation of the land  ... brownfield for development? Any estate agents here?

  14. Watched the second half.

England looked terrible until Poland scored. Absolutely no ambition.

Improved after the equalizer ... turned up the intensity a little, reached a really pleasant tepid:  but very little creativity.

I suppose the goal was nice ... well taken header, brought back nicely - fell nicely. If the defender was more worried about the ball than Maguire, then it might not have been a goal. Having said that Maguire took the ball really well.

The last five minutes of play exemplified England's ambition and imagination.

Funny, given that they are already the wealthiest on a PPP basis. This wasn't supposed to happen until the ~2030-2050 timeframe in the world as it existed prior to the 2008 crisis.

According to Wikipedia their GDP is there but not their PPP

America has performed better than the UK

Not much and as bickster points out, population density matters data. UK 1888 per million, US 1659 deaths per million data

Of course we can compare Canada covid death rate is half that of the US. While I might not put it all down to population density.  Unless someone claims that Americans are denser on average.

  17. Ideally ... we would want international calibre players at each first team position, regardless of whether the national manager recognizes them as such. My take:

Martinez ✅✅  Without doubt international calibre
Cash ✅  Seems to be playing well enough to be worthy of an England shirt
Konsa ✅ Seems to be playing well enough to be worthy of an England shirt
Mings✅ Now the criticism has died down, I think most would agree worth an England shirt
Targett✅❓  Seem to really close to being worthy of an England shirt
McGinn ❓ Although a worthy Scotland international, likely would not get into the England team.
Luiz ❓ We'll see if he makes a regular breakthrough into the Brazilian side
Traore ❌ A fun player, not sure he is a top flight international calibre player, definitely nice to have on the bench
Barkley ❌ Time seems to be passing him by
    Grealish ✅✅ Enough said
Watkins ✅ We'll see how it goes.

The midfield, the right wing - the one area not mentioned for attackers - and better back up, as most of this thread has highlighted??

For me the question is how do we get the five new player for the first team (assuming the players replaced become back-ups).

    • Say five new players at 40 megapounds a pop, can't see it happening might not even be allowed. But it will be the quickest and perhaps the riskiest with team dynamics
    • Buy cheap (but wisely) and develop ... takes time and skill
    • Bring in the developing players (U23s) again takes time

    Some combination?

I don't know the answer this why Dean and company get paid the big bucks.

Genuinely think you could play Cash-Konsa-Mings-Targett as the England back 4 and win a tournament.

While I think this is close to an accurate statement, if we we take into account Martinez is world class, and Watkins and Grealish are also worthy of an England shirt, this does prompt to where the Villa squad need strengthening.

Ok mate, and how to get rid, power flush the system? One person I spoke to said replace all rads that are cold. Seems a bit of overkill? Surely the rads are fine and it’s just the valve or a blockage?

Depending on the type you may have a valve/key to bleed the radiator of air. At least it used to be like that.

Are they stone cold ... you should get a little bit of convective heat from the hot water?
