OK so the Grealish left or centre argument is a simple one really.

In a team not seeing a lot of possession with no threat out wide, Jack has to play left. However if the team has quality on the wings without Jack playing left, and if that team gets a lot of possession you want Jack in the middle.

If you are ambitious the you sign 2 quality widemen and move Jack to the centre.  If you lack ambition you keep Jack left and pray no one decides to offer close to the asking price, because lets be serious here; Jack will not want to be here if we fail to show ambition and even more so if he can't play his favourite position.

We don't really have a choice.  Buy a quality front 3 and have Jack in the 8 / 10 role.

The Rachica link makes a lot of sense we definitely want him, he is perfect for our left. Particularly if you see Watkins and Wesley as our Centre forwards. It was mentioned in his thread that Rachica like to drift inside, run the inside left channel and break the offside trap. When you have a guy doing that they feed well of a link / Target man. When you factor the lack of pace our front line currently has, and how much we need a wide men like that it makes more sense. Then if you add in the fact Jack tends to drift left when played centrally you can see a lovely synergy on the left and centre attacking areas. If you factor in Watkins can play play on either wing as well as up front the movement and unpredictability of such an attacking forward line becomes apparent.

Then all we need is Buendia to play on the right, and we have a potentially top 6 standard attacking unit. You have 2 goal threats with a pace and power combination, and both technically proficient. 2 creators, one the most fouled player in the league that can dictate and control a game. The other adept at set pieces that has a chance creation record almost as good as Jacks and plays in our problem position.

Plus all that for around 75m sounds like a plan!

    Hmmm..

    2 CMs

    3 Wingers (obvs)

2 full backs (all our fbs are worst, probs L1 standard)

    CB (to sprinkle experience around)

GK (backup and carry that net of balls to training)

    2 Strikers (20 goal a season + super sub)

    ???

Are you building a team on fifa?

Well I would put Jack back in the middle and get two wingers. Fullbacks are a clear weakness. Jack is most likely to stay if a we get quality in and b he is in his preferred position. Why keep bottle job Ghazi, when Trez produced when it mattered most? We spend 50m, but who, I don't  see a decent name. Last season Callum Wilson was worth 40 to 50m, now at 20m one season latter he is finished! I actually agree we need a marque striker, but we can't afford 50m on a striker right now. We put all our eggs on a striker what happens if he is out of 6 months or more after 5 games? Buggered!

I know what you are saying mate, but if we get in a quality player on a free (e.g. Fraser) then it’s 2 players in with around £50m left

  4. Just saw on the sky sports transfer centre that Fraser is on £27,000 a week and palace are looking at offering him £50,000. Surely at that wage he is worth looking at, especially on a free. I know people have raised concerns about his downing tools etc but he is a good player and would be an improvement on trez and el ghazi, it would also mean that we would have more of the war chest still available for the other 3-4 incomings

In 90% of the ‘next first eleven’ teams that I’ve seen, we haven’t got new CMs. The general consensus is that we need a new front 3 and possibly a CB.

In my example, those are the positions that I’m assuming we strengthen in 3-4 positions.

I don’t get why people can’t understand that we’ve still got a limited budget to significantly improve a number of positions, so it’s not unreasonable that free transfers or cheap (ie:1-5m) options could be also used to improve the wider squad.

A high number on here have either wanted a new front 3 and move jack back to a number 10 (if he stays) or they have wanted to keep him on the left and sign a new cm.

Even with free transfers, loans, loan to buy, cheap players etc I would want them to be an upgrade on the starting 11 and the previous seasons starter moves to the bench.

We may have limited resources so we don’t want to waste it by signing a shed load of average players, it’s not really worked for us in the past doin a big overhaul in the PL. I would like us to add around 4 quality players and also hopefully keep Reina. As an example I would prefer us to sign someone like benrahma than trez and el ghazi again. It has to be quality over quantity.

We also didn’t have the quality of Luiz until the restart so in a way he is kind of like a new signing, as most (including me) were crying out for us to get someone in to play that role.

I can see the logic in that but it wouldn't be my chosen approach.

I'd rather bring someone like Frazer in and push Hourihane down the pecking order in place of Lansbury for instance.

I still think there’s some merit in getting squad players. Considering that we can probably only afford to bring in 3-4 quality first team players (if Jack doesn’t go).

As long as we’re confident we can still afford our main targets in the first team positions we’ve planned to improve, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to also push some of the fringe players like Lansbury further away from the bench, while bringing in some experienced options, if they’re available.

If we sign a better player than hourihane he gets pushed to the bench, Lansbury is further from the squad.

I don’t get why people can’t understand that if you improve the starting 11 the knock on effect is you improve your bench/squad

If you could only buy 4 players to improve the first team this summer, for a combined total of £100m (if rumours are to be believed), who would you buy?

TransferMarkt is by no means an accurate depiction of a players value, but you can use that site to work out some rough values if that helps.

I'm interested to see what positions everyone wants to prioritise and where people would allocate the money.

Rashica (also be happy with deulefou, sarr or buendia)

    Tammy

    Eze

    Reina

Tammy Abraham at 40m is a no brainer - as many have already stated.
We could go out and spend 30m on a better striker from abroad but why take the risk? Tammy knows the club, the players and scores goals. He's not perfect, his touch sometimes gets away from him and his finishing can improve but for 40m, you're getting a 22yr old who's good enough at this level and will only get better.

Would be a fantastic signing. No question.

    Buy cheap - Buy twice.

Bang on mate. Would absolutely love him back here

Again I don't know exactly what it is but from all the paper talk it seems to be around there. Imo Either Abraham or Belotti will be worth paying a premium for. They can both get 20 goals for us. Even with our current squad I think they can easily add 10-12 goals. So with better wingers/ wide forwards I'd expect around 20.

Belotti is probably better for the high press tactics too.

Mate I agree. I would prefer Tammy or belotti in over mitrovic, I was just saying for the price (if the figure you saw was correct) it would be a big gamble for us to spend that much on him.

Pretty sure Belotti has a release clause of around £50-60million. I stand to be corrected on this though. If we meet the release clause then we can theoretically sign him. Will we meet it is another question entirely.

That’s too much I think mate. Maybe £30-£40m, but if it’s £50-60m I think I would prefer us to go for mitrovic for around £25-30m. Cheaper and slightly less of a risk on return

He's 22 and banged in 20 goals as a 20 year old (FOR US) in the championship, and put in 15 in the top flight.

He fulfills the target man role and is a finisher that we need to pair with all the chances Jack creates.

Don't care if he has feet like horses hooves, he puts the ball in the net and has done it in our side.  It's a fantastic fit and has instant chemistry.

Abraham supposedly removed Chelsea offa his Instagram bio - wouldn't be surprised to see Wolves coming back in for him.

Hasn’t he just triggered an extension clause in his contract for another year?

This isn't your grandfather's Serie A. More goals scored per match in Italy than England this year.

    GOALS PER MATCH

    Bundesliga: 3.21
    Serie A: 3.02
    Premier League: 2.72
    Ligue 1: 2.52
    La Liga: 2.48

That’s just because VAR ruled out a ridiculous amount in the PL

It's no secret we lack pace, but I actually think a few smart signings who are rapid would also bring the best out of our existing players. It'd take a big outlay, but if we had a big powerful forward, with two dynamic and rapid wingers either side of him, you could then play Grealish (if he stays) or another CM with McGinn and Luiz and the attacking play could be frightening. When it's Samatta, Trezeguet and El Ghazy, the threat is severely nullified. All are capable on their day, but should be squad players at best.

I think you are bang on there mate. It also gives us the opportunity to counter quickly more than we did last season.

Hopefully (if he is staying) will also give grealish more space as teams won’t be able to keep 2 players on him if we have 2 or 3 quality outlets instead of only really having jack as the outlet

  16. I think we all agree we need more pace in the team and someone that knows where the net is and most wouldn’t be against an experienced cb, but one area that I think we lack is to have another set piece taker. Hourihanes delivery and direct free kicks are a key asset when he plays, but I feel we could do with another free kick specialist that is a guaranteed starter. The amount we get in and around the area could get us quite a few valuable goals. The amount of times hourihane hasn’t been on the field and various players have skied their free kick or put it straight at the wall last season was a waste
