So... You'd rather we bet our chances of getting out of this division on no experience?

No, I'd rather get players and managers in their prime, not way past their sell by date.

  2. Villa's lack of foresight just amazes me. We have bet our chance of getting out of this division last year and now this year on PROVEN experience. I call it short sighted. We have an OLD manager who is a one trick pony relying on yesterdays tactics and no idea on how to change things when they go wrong. We have now over paid for an over the hill center half. The guy is 37 in a few months and we're expecting him to play every week in the championship? It's not going to happen, he couldn't play every week in the Premier League and we play more games. The old you get, the slower you get. Period.

The Villa board have put all their eggs in the Old Farts basket. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

  3. Terry and Whelan - Why are we looking at two guys at the end if their careers?

Steve Bruce all over, tried and tested players. I'm sorry, but this is short sighted and narrow minded. If you're old in the premier league, you're old in the championship.

So, if in your view, we have pretty much the second best squad in the league, then it must follow that we have one of the worst managers in the league for this team to be so far off 2nd place?

    Correct

  5. Honestly, If you ask me today, I want Steve Bruce gone. Why? because I have seen nothing in our teams performances that gives me any encouragement that it will be any better next season.

Bruce fanatics convince me otherwise, and don;t start with he has a track record of getting teams out of this league. Football in the championship has moved. Go on convince me Bruce is the the guy.

Newcastle had a poor team but were very well organized and managed.  They will require a big shake up to their squad if they are to stay in the premiership.

I wish our only problem was requiring a big shake up to stay in the premiership. We are a poor team that are not very well organized and badly managed.

  7. Villa have scored 46 goals in 45 games, Brentford have scored 74 and we bought their best striker. They will most likely finish top 10 and we won't. They have a fraction of our budget and play much better football week in and week out, plus they battered us 3-0.

Can we please give Dean Smith a call next Sunday?

  8. So it's official we will not finish in the Top Ten. Disgraceful.

Brentford, with a fraction of our budget, will finish above us, and this is after we bought their top striker. They have scored 74 goals, we may just finish averaging one per game. Tony, please do not go in to next season with Bruce in charge, he has outdated ideas, we play poorly as a team, and it's painful to watch. Call Dean Smith and let's start playing some decent football and scoring goals. If he can get Brentford playing like they do, there has to be a good chance he can improve on the garbage we watch each week.

Just when I look at the players we will have for next season, we will most likely have the back 5 that largely went 9 games barely conceding, we will probably be able to sign a back up for Jedinak, Kodjia won't be at the AFCON.  I think we will win a lot of games on that basis but it will be a bit boring.  The core of a promotion side is there.

I'm struggling to see how you think the promotion core is here. We scored 45 goals, the lowest of any team in the top 18.

  10. Everyone that wanted Steve Bruce signed up this. You all signed up for ugly football. Forget how we play, we just want the results.

We signed Brentford's striker for a huge sum of money. Brentford have scored 70 goals, we have scored 46, just about 1 per game. It's not about buying the best and letting them do their thing, it's about buying the right player, integrating them in to the team, and making sure everyone knows their roles and responsibilities. I'm afraid Mr. Bruce is a 1-trick very old pony with outdated ideas.

  11. How much slack and time do we have to give this guy? Just remember a few weeks ago we were being beaten by Forest, Brentford, plus Ipswich and Barnsley at home, and all this after we have spent the most money in the division. We weren't losing to Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea. We were playing crap and losing to crappier teams.

When was the last time you sat back in your chair and said well done Steve, they played great football and we deserved the win today? I don't think I've said it once since he's been here. We've either been crap, scraped a win or draw, or managed to pull together a win against one of the bottom six teams.

Can someone please explain why we have suddenly settled for mediocrity, and where you are seeing the signs that this will get any better any time soon?

What's also annoying is that there were some decent results around us too. Could have been 8 points off 7th.

Anyway, I listened to the commentary AND watched the stream and I wouldn't be surprised if most of the dramatically negative posters we reading text commentary.

By all accounts we should have been 2 or 3 up in the first half.

We pressed well, and carved out good chances.

Inevitably we fell off, but we also played a team, at home, which realistically can still finish in the top 2.

Also bare in mind we have an extremely depleated squad. I will moan with the rest under normal circumstances, but I can't go overboard today.

If we were not so far off the playoff places, or had such a torrid season, some people would be nowhere near as mad about this.

Mork calling Orsen ...... Come in Orsen.

Again excellent post mate and while we all don't agree on every point I'm sure we all want Bruce to succeed.

We may all want him to succeed but how many have the confidence that it will actually happen. I for one don't.

  14. Every dog has it's day and by the sound of it Steve was very lucky as Derby played us off the park.

Let's get a few points straight:

    1. When Bruce was appointed we were 19th in the league. We're now 17th. Hardly setting the division on fire.
    2. Other than Wigan, we are the lowest scorers in the Division. That really doesn't look like changing does it?
    3. When was the last time you watched the Villa and thought they played well. I can't remember

I will settle for 17th at the end of the season and then hope and pray we bring in another manager.

I think we're playing much better football under Bruce than RDM - the results are crap, but the football is better. Ultimately results will get you the sack, but for me the last three games have had plenty of signs that we can get results. Under RDM I thought we were getting worse with each game. Right now I think we're getting closer to something - it really doesn't matter though if we don't win.

Really, we had two shots on goal against Newcastle and scored a grand total of one goal in three games. Scintillating form.

He's really not universally liked at Brentford. I'm not saying he's a bad manager but I know there are significant frustrations with what he's delivered so far. As far as those in charge of the club are concerned, they believe he is underperforming at the moment but not to such a significant level that they're considering moving him on (there are mitigating circumstances).

I think he is at his current level. He may well be a better manager in future but I think he needs much more experience before stepping* up to a job like Villa.

*Obvious caveats about league position, stepping up, etc

Why did they just extend his contract until the summer of 2019 then?
