  1. Why, whenever Henry is mentioned, is it only ever seen as a risk and only the negative side of the debate/argument is brought up??? Based on literally nothing.

What if appointing him turns out to be a masterstroke and he totally revolutionises the club???

I certainly can’t say how it would turn out but I’d rather greet such speculation with excitement rather than complete pessimism.

Surely the board and whoever is employed to research and find our new manager has more of an idea than any of us?

Probably because he chats shit and is good for nothing more than a soundbyte, I've seen nothing in his career either whilst playing or since that suggests to me he'd be a good Manager.

Whereas JT, for example, has been a leader all his career, came to play in the Championship and gave it 100%.

You obviously can't tar everyone with the same brush but I remember when Henry's mate Pires came to 'play' for us......and that was in the PL.

Obv there are no guarantees but he was a world class player who played under world class managers and coaches and has experience of different leagues and a high amount of knowledge. He has always been part of attacking sides too. I would think he would have some ability and he has done some coaching at Arsenal and with Belgium.

I would definitely welcome him over Terry who I can see focussing on defending more than anything (can’t really see him bringing entertaining & attacking football), has only ever played in Prem & Champ and under defensive managers such as Mourinho (and Bruce!).

Henry’s personal skills and experiences are a much stronger attraction to me. Again, just my opinion and he isn’t the only option I would consider or want. I just don’t see why there’s such a lack of enthusiasm toward appointing him compared to lesser options in my view.

terry was great for villa, i think villa was great for jt,

its a chance with him, great if it come off but you have to say its a chance, were talking about owners looking at investment to get the club up.

derby are rolling the dice with lamps.. villa is geared in every way to be in top flight & europe.

its just a chance thats all im saying

My point wasn’t that Terry would be a bad choice. It was, why are ppl eager to have someone like Terry (who has even less or almost 0 coaching or management experience) but apprehensive and concerned about appointing Henry? Henry would definitely be a better choice imo and would offer a lot more.

Thats just my opinion, no problem with others.

I just want a manager with a completely different approach and who would bring some entertaining and attacking football and to do that you need to go for a decent foreign manager or, if you have to go British, then a younger, more adventurous one.

The old guard can sod off. Drab, dull and uninspiring. No thanks.

  4. F*** experience!

I don’t understand the (amount of) apprehension toward appointing Henry in particular (compared to Terry or even Mellberg, for example), he could be so good for us in so many ways.

I don’t think it’s quite as much of a risk as some people think but I think you have to be willing to take some form of risk in order to try and be successful. He would bring an element of confidence, style and swagger and would be a big draw for players to come to our club and he would be respected.

He certainly has experience of working under top class managers and coaches and has actually done some coaching himself. Would certainly excite me and I’m sure he would implement an attacking style.

I really don’t want another old fashioned British manager, that would be the absolute worst. Enough is enough. We need to move forward with fresh, energetic, attacking football and we should definitely go foreign. Henry, Fonseca, Flores all appeal.

Just look at the dross we have had at the club, particularly the British managers. It’s high time we moved on and progressed rather than limiting ourselves and being stuck in the past. The whole club needs refreshing and this is a massive opportunity now to really move us forwards.

  5. Really hope the new manager brings a fresh approach and creates a more energetic and youthful side - enough of these aging, unreliable players well past their prime. We need to become a dynamic, attacking team.

Sod experience, sick of the word and it really has no relevance...

  6. Hopefully won’t get many games other than filling in at RB, now that his mate Bruce is gone...

Be glad to see him and a few others shipped out and replaced with some genuine quality if we get an actually decent manager in.

So glad the nightmare is over.

  7. Of all the benefits Terry brought, what I enjoyed most was seeing us pass the ball out from the back and the end of hoofball for a while. He was an excellent partner for Chester.

We actually started seeing some build up play for the first time in yonks!

With the state we’re in, I would definitely welcome him back and he would, again, provide some guidance and inspiration to the other players. Tuanzebe would certainly benefit.

It’s really Bruce’s responsibility but he is just coming across as inept. I’d just rather have him replaced and a new manager bring a different approach entirely.

    Even his name is perfect.

Boa means good in Portuguese, Villa means Villa in English so "Villas Good"

    Sign him up

    Could be our Arsene (Arsenal)

I don’t think he would come here, he would be an exciting appointment though.

  9. I’m so sick of Bruce’s tenure...he’s had so many chances and I have lost hope that he will succeed here.

Why hasn’t he been sacked yet? He’s sticking around (again) isn’t he? ?

At this point I would welcome any new appointment and I don’t think this regime would target anyone “bad”.

I’d certainly welcome a Henry or Arteta type.

We desperately need a fresh approach, we’re going nowhere under this manager and I am so tired of the shit that has been served up since he’s been here. We are not improving in any sense.

  10. Has to go now, there is no excusing this. We’ve put up with his shite for too long, he has messed up too often.

I am done being patient and hoping that we will improve, progress and achieve anything under this manager.

    Time for change is NOW.

Can someone give me an update on our window? Did we sign a CB? What happened the last week or so? After Bolasie signed I'm blank.

No defenders signed. Latest signings were El Ghazi, Bolasie & Abraham. We’ve definitely strengthened in attacking areas. McGinn helps us in that regard too.

Defence is worrying, we failed to sign a LB or CB.

I think we NEED to sign Terry or Huth now (not aware of any better option available on a free, someone brought up a Reyes??) or we leave ourselves very vulnerable...

Not sure on Caulker, must be a reason why he “failed” at QPR & Dundee. I would guess something do with attitude or (lack of) professionalism? Used to be highly rated...

Just listening on how knowledgable Purslow is. He is going to be an asset to this club.

Certainly spoke the most sense amongst them lot, hope he has the same kind of passion and ambition for our club...

Best 70 minutes of the entire Bruce era by a million miles and regardless of the result, I will take that as VERY encouraging.

I think we ran out of gas at 70 mins as we simply aren't used to playing a hi-line, hi-tempo game but that's the way we need to play from now on.

My only concern was the defence. Jedi is NOT NOT NOT a reliable CH and Tuanzebe is a poor right back ..... he'd do better in midfield. We may have to win games 4-3 throughout this season !!!

What?! Really? Destroying Wolves has to be the highlight so far, today doesn’t compare to that, at least imo.

Was a very entertaining game though (which makes a pleasant change) and there were definitely signs of encouragement.

Glad to have Kodjia back on form, I’ve always loved his hunger for goals and he will be a real asset this season.

Very excited by the El Ghazi & Bolasie signings! If we can get a proper CB, LB and CF in, before the end of the month, then I think we have a real chance of challenging for automatic promotion...

His release clause should be nowhere near 25 million. If he keeps improving the way he is there will be a bidding war come the end of the season should we not go up. IMO there shouldn't be a figure written into the contract, only a private assurance that they won't stand in his way and won't be unreasonable. That way if he improves enough to call the attention of the biggest clubs they'd be more likely to splash out millions more to get their man.

Agreed, he’s only going to continue to improve and is a unique talent.

  15. Would love to see this but I think I’m dreaming, can’t see Bruce playing such an attacking team but, if we we got the right players in, we should be able to blow most teams away in this division.

                                           New Striker

    Kodjia/Green.                                                 New WF/Adomah

                      Grealish      Hourihane/DM      McGinn

New LB                 New CB.         Chester.                  De Laet

                                                 Nyland

Hutton & Elmo are decent backup but not good enough to be starters for a promotion chasing team imo. Suspect and error prone defensively. I wouldn’t mind letting either of them leave but they are useful for squad depth and options. I would like to see Bree more involved too, if not then allowed to leave on loan.

Tuanzebe gives us decent defensive cover, at CB preferably. Could rotate regularly with either CB.

I would like to see us sell Jedinak, too old, slow and injury & error prone. Whelan is ok for DM cover and Bjarnason gives us options.

Strikers are injured except for RHM who would work better as a WF in our team, a good option off the bench. Never a lone forward or target man but would be good in a front two.

O’Hare will be a good option for us when he returns from injury too.

In this case, would be happy for us to shift Taylor & Elphick (would be needed in case of an injury crisis though). And, again, Jedinak although I do appreciate his service and leadership.

Probably Lansbury too as he’s not getting a look in.

Hope we do end up releasing Richards and McCormack.

That would only leave Tsihbola to get rid of somehow, he’s not going to be reintegrated by the looks of it.

  16. Reece Oxford on loan?

Not hearing or seeing many links to defenders, is a slight concern but hopefully we are working on deals. Bruce didn’t mention he was after a defender in his press conference, just that we are light in wide areas and up top, maybe he just forgot to mention it.

We desperately need a decent CB to partner Chester. A proper LB, winger and target man too. Has been a bit quiet, hopefully things will start advancing soon.
