Good point. Well I'm not there this Saturday, but why not. There's no beef.

What's the odds on him playing and making a string of worldies?

A nice guy, a good move for all parties. As said plenty of times before his confidence was shot, and became a liability. There is a half decent keeper there, and it's not for a lack of effort. I shall clap him if we come across him in the future.

    Saturday afternoon too soon?

  3. Who's the worst diver in the Premier league?

    Brad Guzan.

One of the many jokes made at his expense last year, better off out of it imho. Gollini has looked tidy so far and I don't think Guzan is even 3rd choice now.

Thanks for your efforts Brad, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I agree, we have to hit the ground running over the first 4 or 5 games.  Will most possibly determine the rest of the campaign.

I know it's "a marathon not a sprint" but I think you're spot on, Sheffield Wednesday are considered a major threat in that league and we need to send a message of intent to everyone else, we've been a joke for 4 years now ffs!

We've finally got our club back and an owner that talks the talk, we now need to know if he's wearing walking boots or flip flops!

Sorry I wasn't accusing you of having a dig, I've re-read that and saw how it sounds. I disagree, our squad was embarrassingly bad and probably would have been relegated from the championship last season too, it's a long hard season with teams of players that will work hard, or fight and some that are actually good enough to compete at a higher level than some people think.

Surly that's where RDMs management comes into the equation? Players like Richards didn't become self centred, useless gutter snipes overnight, they were mismanaged and empowered by weak people like Lambert and Black.

I'd like to think I trust RDM enough to think he can get the best out of what we have if no more signings are realised, players don't become bad overnight, they can however in most cases and if allowed, become prats.

I agree that we're not a good sell, and I don't think anybody in this entire forum has suggested we would/should be signing any world class players. But we're not linked with ANY players. Other than some daily mail shit about 'our sources believe Aston Villa are interested in McCormack' we've heard nothing since the initial 3. And while they seem OK signings, I'm as underwhelmed as anybody else. Managers rarely get a job where 'tens of millions' are available to spend. If RDM had that sort of money to spend, he'd have got the players he wanted in for pre-season so they were ready to play and sold the others as and when he could. I know people will say that's not how you run a football club and I agree, but this first season is very important, and our squad was dire and had no chance of promotion, heavy investment was needed.

Don't get me wrong, not having a dig at anybody in particular and let's be honest, yes, the championship is a long hard season but it's not exactly filled with Premier league level teams, we should be destroying most of them week in week out (even with the handful of idiots from last season), I'm actually one of the few optimistic people that think we'll storm it and be up by April, regardless of signings.

    Agree with that.

But not that. I think the money is there but there are other factors in play (basically no-one wants to take last season's more shambolic players off our hands and RDM wants to trim the squad before he gets more players in).

I'm hoping for a last minute flurry of activity because if i'm honest, as things stand I think mid table is where we're heading.

Agreed, I think the money is there also, it's just who (I'm typing this with tinted glasses removed) in there right mind and with an iota of talent, would want to play for us? The last 5 years have been a sharp descent into circus clown levels of lampoonery and we have become a bit of a joke in the footballing world.

I think it's time a lot of people realised we aren't signing world class players any time soon and RDM deserves the keys to Aston if he persuades anyone of worth that does.

I swear I just spat coffee all over my phone loling at this!

I do find his tweets quite endearing in all honesty but I get the feeling if results don't go our way or we stagnate in the transfer market (out as well as incoming players) they could become a little annoying.

Ok, I sorta started this with my comment that his TWO goals from free kicks may be more the result of inept goal keeping.   And in at least one of them, the video looks to confirm that possibility.   But I want to remind you of my second point.   HE PUT A FREE KICK ON FRAME AND PAST THE FIRST DEFENDER!!!!!  That's better than the sizeable majority of our attacking free kicks last year !

He deserves some careful consideration on that alone, relative to those playing for us last year.

Oh don't get me wrong, I genuinely think Joe can do a job for us this year, just not sure left back is his strongest position though, maybe push him up to left midfield?

He is also a beautiful looking thing!!

the fact that he scored two long range free kicks v GAK may well be down to an inept keeper.  But, long-range and on frame is, of itself, and improvement on our recent past.

I would like to see him play to see if he has learned to defend better.  If not, a left side of Amavi with Joe right in front might be fun.  Most have thought Bennett was solid in attack but suspect in defense.

Yup, looks like Guzan played for them to make the numbers up.

I've always thought, even when he was at Middlesbrough, that Bennett's real position should be as a wide left midfielder.

My reasoning for that being that he has great delivery from corners and free-kicks, as well as from open play but, as a defender he is pretty clueless.

Pretty much this, but yeah, Cissokho is dog shite awful.

I'll leave it up to RDM in all honesty though, I mean what do I know? I'm just a slightly overweight 41 year old semi-professional nobody.

I think I read somewhere that If Norwich and Newcastle doubled their points from last season they'd be in the Champions League, if we doubled ours we'd still be relegated and joint bottom of the table. We need to add more quality to the team and to get of to a good start to excorcise last season.

That's just awful when you think about it.

By just plugging the text at the bottom in to google translate, he says something like "I'm bound to Aston Villa by a contract. If it pleases God you'll hear in the coming days", then "Three years. Not Two years." when asked about how long his contract was for, and judging by the next question I think his previous answer can be interpreted as "I signed for Three years, so Two left." Then when he's asked if he'll stay for the two years of his contract in the second decision "We'll see. We'll see."

It's all very non-committal. Personally it seems he'd be willing to give it a year in the Championship unless he gets an offer that is too good for him to turn down, but will probably be looking for a way out if we don't bounce straight back up.

Not trolling and agree with everything but won't Barcelona have some input on where Adama ends up and not him? I only ask because of the buy back clause in his contract.

If RDM for whatever reason, gets Gabby into shape and thinks he can do a job, I can't wait for the numpties who will be booing and slating him before he has even touched a ball, just because.

Can't say I've ever booed a Villa player, not even returning players, what's the point? If you came to my place of work and booed me for 90 minutes and I was earning £60k+ a week would you blame me for not giving a fudge?

If RDM plays Gabby and he chips in and helps with the promotion chase (I'm not expecting 35 goals ffs), then I'll be the first to hold my hands up and applaud him. As it is, he's a liability to the club and everyone in the squad imo of course.
