  1. I liked Gil, I do wish he was given more opportunities, however im not overly distressed he has gone either.

I think Adama will turn out to be a more dangerous player out of the two of them, Gil was technically sound and at times a joy to watch but he wasn't uprooting tree's for us.

    What are Newcastle doing?

not fixing the defence that's been shit for about 5 years, realising their 2 starting CBs and buying grant Hanley...selling wijnaldum, sissoko, cisse and Townsend and buying gayle and ritchie, the only thing they've really strengthened so far potentially is the keeper and he's an unknown you've just got to automatically assume he's better than the shit they had

dwight gayle has played 63 league games in his 3 years at palace scoring 15 goals, struggled to get in the team ahead of adebayor (1 in 7) wickham (5 in 21) chamakh (7 in 59) and Frazier Campbell (0 in 11) don't know where this status on here comes from, decent player not much more, mitrovic will be the one there next season

they were in a stronger position than us following relegation, they aren't in a as strong position now IMO

Love this post, everyone's blowing smoke up Newcastle's bottom, whereas for me, they are going to be considerably weaker by the time the season starts.

Do I think Villa can finish above Newcastle as the squads stand at the moment, absolutely!

Not really.  I said if he gets bids for our shitter players he should start accepting them.  Didnt imply anything really but seems the use of the word start has upset you.

No doubt your post will get a few likes,  I can almost guarantee who as well!

The way your original post came across was as if RDM is deliberately not accepting bids and you were in a sense telling him to buck his ideas up, not saying that's what you meant but that's how it came across.

You actually misread it then dave . It seems a lot of people on here are only reading part posts these days

EDIT.  The exact post I made "Too soon to say Xia out? Potentially and my fear is that when / if that time comes it will be far far harder to shift this one than the last two,  not saying we should be at that stage now.

Just that I am not overly encouraged by the first few months"

Lol I've actually really enjoyed the last few months.

Very encouraged by it and optimistic for the season ahead.

i do even think some of the dross players might actually be the players they were meant to be last season, the black cloud of having an owner with no ambition for the club has gone, the future of villa is exciting and these players will want to up their game to be a part of that. Granted Bacuna probably can't up his game, but the rest probably will.

    No need to panic.

The fee for the Toshiba geezer looks well over the top. £5m for a guy with a total of 13 appearances in the championship - and a ropey injury record. Don't think there will be an in between with this one - either a stroke of genius or a flop.

Daily Mail were last night were reporting Gollini wasn't convinced about coming here. Personally I hope we get someone more experienced.

Well we are now the equivalent of Man City in the championship, think we will be paying over the odds for players, but hopefully it will get us all the targets we want.

While I admire the guys ambition, I don't think he has a scooby do what he's let himself in for by buying this football club. Win the Champions League in 10 years? We'd be lucky to get in the top 8 by then imo.

But maybe, just maybe, he might have the financial clout to do whatever the hell he wants and buy whoever he wants at any price, then all of a sudden his dream doesn't seem so crazy.

He does but I think he's in for a shock when he finds out how difficult it's going to be to achieve his goals. To get out of the Championship and back as a midtable premier league team will need a lot of work.

Think he is prepared to splash the cash to get there tho which is a massive bonus, I don't think he will stop until he gets his goal either.

i fully expect Villa to finish in the top 3 this season.

  8. I honestly think RDM won't take no nonsense, let's not forget he's been a top player, won countless things, this idea that we need a disciplinarian is rubbish, course he's going to discipline them, he knows what he is doing by all accounts.

I know that it would be a culture shock for many to see a midfielder who scores goals but we have to accept that we have to take a gamble on some of these signings-Its where we've slipped to. Is it any worse than the days of Tonev and Bowrey etc?

    Lets trust RDM

Tonev and Bowery.... Trying to forget we signed them.

  10. I cannot believe he's managed to stay at the club for this long, he's never been of the standard I would've expected from an Aston Villa player, tho having been spoilt on some of the world class defenders we have had, maybe I'm just being too harsh on him?

  11. I think our transfer dealings will be pretty much like the last few seasons, not necessarily in terms of quality (hopefully) but in the fact we won't have heard of most of them.

Tho I'd also like to think if money isn't an issue, why couldn't we try and get top fringe players from their clubs, im sure if the money's good and they are playing with the notion they are joining a club that in a few years will be challenging for Europe then why not consider a move to Villa?

Sign Gayle to play alongside Kozak with Sellars as back up. Sell Gestede and bring in 1 more striker. Keep Gabby but he doesn't play until he's fit.

Sign some new midfielders to support Westwood and hopefully Gana.

I think our defensive options are good if we can hold onto Clark, Okore, Amavi, Bacuna, Cissokho, Hutton and Donacien.

MUST try and keep Gil and Traore

I hope RDM can get the most out of this group but I am not holding my breath.

Completely forgot about Kozak, he could possible do some damage in the championship!

Tbh although the team was completely pony last season I do actually still believe with the right set up and management, it's a squad good enough to win the championship imo.
