  1. I remember in MON's first season when we bought Watford's best player, also a 22 year old he turned out to be a pretty useful tool in our survival against the drop.

Who quite a few of us had heard of and had quite a buzz around his name, hence the price tag that came with it.

Signing this kind of player to try and develop is great, but signing them and throwing them straight in the first team is just ridiculous, and isn't going to help us in the relegation battle that we'll no doubt be facing in the near future.

  2. just saw the gouffran/sagbo links on sky during there transfer window round up, said us and everton had enquired but no bid made and Bordeaux want £1.5million for him, and that villa, west ham and fulham were intrested in him but no idea of asking price

So SSN know that Bordeaux want £1.5m but Villa, WH an Fulham have no idea what the asking price is?

Somebody tell Lambert to slap down £2m !

  3. Doubt United will want to let Anderson go to one of their rivals, and it does seem he is surplus to requirements for them, definitely worth a shout and would get the buzz going even on a loan - not too sure about Downing as he was a proper cock about leaving us, but if he plays anything like he used to then I guess it's another good shout.

Don't know why I'm reading into all this shit though, only going to let myself down

In what way are we one of United's rivals? It has been a long time since we've rivalled United for anything, and that won't be changing any time soon!

I'm saying it in the sense that we aren't one of their rivals, and United won't want him to go to one of their rivals, so unless he's off abroad then why not take a punt on him since I'm sure they wouldn't have an issue with him coming to a lesser Prem club that poses no threat to them :)

  5. Personally think the Doyle link is bollocks anyway, like I said, no quotes - seems like an agent fishing to get his man back into the Prem. Reckon we need better anyway, if we really want to make a go of things this season, and get a relatively decent 12th place finish or so, then we need some quality injected into the team. Can't see Lambert wanting to waste money away on Doyle as even if he has got some money to spend it won't be a great deal I don't think.

Even if we get in a few new additions I don't think 12th is realistic... Give me 15th - 13th now and i'd take it! I know it's hard to take but this season is just about staying up, especially with the windfall next year from TV rights going up. Like my dad said to me today, it would be just our luck to get religated the season before more ££ is pupped into the PL!!!

I agree that I would take 15th - 13th without a shadow of a doubt, but I think if Lambo is going to get to spend some money, it isn't going to be on players that he thinks will 'just keeps us up', if he's as good as we think he is as a manager then he'll be looking to buy players to get us a decent finish (not like McLeish as such).

It's already been said earlier that the likes of Vlaar and KEA already look like good signings, so I have faith that any players he does bring in will be decent signings and not just random panic buys to stop us getting relegated.

  7. Everton and Aston Villa are chasing Wolves striker Kevin Doyle.

Doyle is a long-term target for David Moyes. The Goodison chief is also hoping to sign French starlet M’Baye Niang from Caen today for £2million.

Wolves are reluctant to let Doyle go after banking £14m for fellow striker Steven Fletcher, who has gone to Sunderland.

Manager Stale Solbakken said: “I have not heard anything about Doyle leaving and hopefully he will stay.”

But Solbakken will listen to offers for winger Stephen Hunt, 31, who has less than a year left on his contract. And he has landed Rennes winger Razak Boukari, 25, on a season’s loan.

No quotes so seems like complete utter bullshit but yeah.

  8. I have faith in Lambert, as a manager that obviously will want to continue a successful career, to have identified targets or at least know the players he would want to improve our team if backed to get them.

Let us now hope that he is getting that backing, and personally I'm willing to take those two losses if it means Randy is willing to open his wallet. Just a shame that we had to lose our first two games if Nursey is right about it making an impact, because we could all clearly see our team wasn't up to par, and based on the losses and countless amount of draws from last season the wallet should have been opened to quite some extent as soon as Lambert was appointed.

UTV anyway, 3 or 4 signings and a shock away win at Newcastle please Mr Lerner and Mr Lambert.

  9. Thoroughly embarrassed on our own pitch in the opening home fixture. Bents best contribution was clearing one off our line. No leader, no plan, no fight, no depth in squad. Looking at the fixtures, I can't see any possible points until we play Southampton away, and we'll probably lose that too.

Relegation is definitely on, we could easily finish 20th.

I agree completely, although I was working yesterday and can't bring myself to watch the highlights so I can't comment on specific performances.

We need a great deal of investment, give Lambert the players he wants and hope he succeeds with them. I don't understand why he would take the helm if he knew he wouldn't be backed, unless he genuinely thought the reserve team from two years back are now Premiership quality.

I dont know if Randy is scared to invest again, or whether he literally can't afford to, but it needs to happen and it needs to happen fast.

I'm genuinely putting us down to be relegated this season, after our hopes being ripped out with the managerial selection of last year, our hopes have been built back up and now ripped out again. The board need to get their fingers out their arses or sell up because our club is being ruined more and more as the days go by.

  10. The sell to buy policy doesn't bother me if it actually is in place - its the fact that we're banishing players to the U21 team for training without replacing them, or not actually making substantial improvements. Collins replaced by Vlaar I reckon will be an improvement, but that's about it, and if we aren't improving because we can't afford to, we're going to be stuck until we can afford to.

  11. After Sadio Diallo and Romain Alessandrini, Jean II Makoun is the third reinforcement of "Red and Black" this season. Last season on loan to Olympiakos in Greece by the English club Aston Villa, Cameroon arrived in Britain to strengthen the midfield after the departures of Tongo Doumbia (Wolverhampton) and Alexander Tettey (Norwich City): "We were looking an environment with experience, "explains Pierre Dréossi general manager of the club," I know well because I had recruited in Lille (2001). It was closely followed by Greece last season. He had a good year in particular Olympiakos in the Champions League and the Europa League. "

Jean II Makoun knows France. Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, he landed in the North Lille at the age of 17 years. He made his debut in Ligue 1 in 2002 and is quickly in midfield Lille. With the LOSC, the defensive midfielder participates twice in the Champions League. In the league, "John II" argument 165 games, scoring 9 goals. For the record, during the 2005-2006 season through the first day, it is the only scorer of the match against Stade Rennais FC

Its good performance earned him the interest of Lyon, the seven-time champion of France. With Gones, he plays 76 games in L1 and mark 8 goals. He participated in 24 Champions League games and scored 3 goals against Fiorentina, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Fierce competition in midfield reduces the playing time of Cameroonians. In January 2011, Jean II Makoun joined Aston Villa.

England, Cameroon taste the games in the Premier League on seven occasions. Injury prevents former Lyonnais itself in the starting eleven Gérard Houllier. During the 2011 summer transfer window, he was loaned to club Olympiakos Piraeus Greek club with whom he won the championship and the national cup.

Loaned for one season at Stade Rennais FC midfielder of 29 years should bring all his experience in Rennes between games.

Makoun signs to Rennes on a year long loan, they best be paying his bloody wages!

  12. I'm starting to wonder that, if there are seriously no funds, and we do need to cut wages back, what on earth are we going to do next season, and the season after, and the season after, and so on?

What happens if Lowton does turn out to be the best full back we've ever purchased, and then demands more wages? Will he have to be sold on, and to continue sticking to this wage budget, will he have to be replaced once more by somebody that only requires less than £20k a week?

There has to be some form of investment eventually or we'll just be stuck in a loop, whether that means purchasing new players outright, having to offer current players higher salaries in order to stay at the club, or replacing players that move on with new players that are up to par.

  13. I still somehow remember Dwight Yorke going to United, rocket polisher, he was the reason I started supporting Villa (as well as being local to the club).

I'd probably put McLeish being appointed right up there, and when Olof threw the ball into the net against the bluenose scum.

  14. I said we would have £8m plus 50% of sales revenue.

    I got slated

If this is true, and right now nobody knows, then I think PL has made an appalling error in signing Lowton for £3M. I can't see why he'd do that, i mean Hutton is not the best right back in the world, but he would have done for another season, why splash 40% of your transfer budget on a rookie for a position in which you already have a rookie and an international ?

I think there is probably more like £15M, but the market has gone silly this summer.

This is a very good point that I hadn't considered before. Hutton, as bad as he is, isn't the biggest problem area in the team. I'd say Warnock is worse than him.

I've always thought there were funds available. I still trust Richards info, and that we'll make a few signings in the next week.

This is exactly what I've been saying about the whole Lowton scenario, why would he spend £3m on an unproven youngster from League One, if his budget is less than £10m. The same goes with the idea of Cresswell replacing Warnock, we're trying to flog both of last seasons first team fullbacks, only to replace them with lower league players. I agree that Warnock and Hutton are both shite, but that means they need replacing with players that are better, rather than unproven youngsters from the lower leagues.

The only way it would make sense is if we literally cannot afford to pay the wages of top tier players in any capacity, hence buying players who won't want any more than 10k a week.

There must be more money available, it's either that or we're being set up for a promotion battle next season.

  15. They are working on Deals and expect to complete transfers this window out and in . You might say no big surprise but until now I was dubious we would make signings because of the stupid prices being banded about for joe average players . :!:

No haven't got a clue other than one who I know is a consideration

    Thanks, makes sense.

MM does the consideration play for a Championship/League One team by any chance?

  16. I tip my hat for the optimism, but I don't think anybody expects us to be fighting for Europa League football. Simply put, our team is shit, and the majority of teams in the league have much better quality than what we have.

Champions League Qualification is a whole other story.

  17. Just listening to Football Weekly podcast - apparently QPR's current wages to turnover ratio is 183%. That's before they've even signed Dawson/Defoe etc...

    Thought we were bad....

That's shocking. How on Earth can they keep this up? They remind me of a more extreme version of us under MON. Can see them ending up like Portsmouth.

Isn't their owner literally one of the richest men in the world? I'm pretty sure on several occasions he has stated he wants to build them up so that they are eventually competing with the big boys.

It is worrying that all of these teams around us are investing at a time when we're undergoing extreme cutbacks.
