  1. There's something about this thread that I really, really, really hate.

It's driving me batshit crazy -- the repetitive cycle of Good Tim Bad Tim Good Tim Bad Tim.

And yet I can't seem to stop myself from having a look every ten minutes.

Here you go then, 10 or so minutes later:

For me, there isn't yet a Good or a Bad Tim: It's good, but possibly fatally-flawed Tim, and we just have to wait and see if he really is fatally flawed.

  2. Maybe not much good today, but still our leading goalscorer. He has a lot of skill and pace, although his vision and physical size maybe limit him a bit. He's frustrating, because in many ways he's just a couple of skills away from being a truly great player. Some of the tricks and passes he pulls of are wonderful to watch, and I put him in the group of our best attacking players along with Grealish, Traore, Ayew and Gil.

  3. Tim has been good in the transfer market overall, and he has some good players now. It just seems he doesn't have a clue how to get the best out of them.

Jokes aside, if we ever manage to get Traore, Grealish, Gil, Sinclair and Ayew on the pitch at the same time we could be truly frightening for defenders this season.

  4. I think the bar has been set for Sherwood to fail by some because I cannot see us getting loads of points in the next couple of months!  I remember when we bought all our new players and every was agreeing that we have to be patient and give them time to gel.  Yes yes everyone said.  Now after a few losses everyone is wobbling and calling for radical change again.  Don’t we have to back our manager and give him more time?  Reverse 110mins when we were 2-0 up at Leicester; how many would have been calling for his head then?  Hasn’t he earnt our backing after keeping us in the premier league?  Taking us to an FA Cup Final?  Helping to attract a lot of good young players to the club?  No he’s not perfect, he makes mistakes and he needs to get better quick.  He hasn’t yet figured out what his best team is or what formation(s) work with these players.  And he is coming to terms with not having a proven striker; probably the big mistake of the summer.  But he had us playing some great exciting football last year and I think he will get us there again.  I still back him to do OK. We still have players like Traoré, Gana and Veretout (yes Vereteout) to come in and start making an impact. I expect Sherwood will still be the manager at the end of the season and most of us will say he did a decent good job in the end after a difficult  start.  If we can get through this season and hold on to our young talent things will get better – but we have to go through some growing pains to get there.

The question is whether the growing pains are the problem, or the manager. Probably a bit of both. Hopefully TS can improve on his reading of the game. I'm giving him time because he did very well in the transfer market and hoping against hope that Ayew will make him look even better.

  5. If he can play more than 20 X 90 minutes this season he probably will save Sherwood's job. But more likely he will get the Bejeesus kicked out of him every game and spend a lot of the time injured, like right now.

  6. Pray we get Traore and Gana back pronto, and that they somehow stay fit. If they both do we'll get so many crosses in even Ayew will score goals.

If it doesn't work out like that it's probably curtains for Tim. Apart from pretty good work in some departments of the transfer market his good work as manager so far amounts to two Premier League games and two FA Cup games. Grim.

  7. I think we need to stop making up chants and start asking the question as to why a 9m player looks completely out of his depth.

How much of a look have we actually seen? Give the lad a chance.

No villa89, it's clear that most of our signings this year are massive flops, and we should sell all of them, bar Amavi, for £1m each just to cut our losses and get them off the wage bill.

    Lambert out! Everyone out!

Whilst your sarcasm is clearcut, I'd bite your hand off for 1m for Ayew..

Good job you're not in charge of negotiations then.

Too right. Aston Villa would get a bad deal and some poor bastard would lose a hand.

  8. HAHA Well noticed the front security light come on last night after midnite, looked out to see if there were any kids going up the drive for me to batter senseless and noticed a fat bloke (actually the father of some of said kids and their mates) walking to his car, opening the boot and pulling out a huge object, hoofing it on his fat shoulders and going in his house... didn't notice any reindeers but his physique fits the profile...

I believe he was heard to say "Ooh, Jesus Christ", which reinforces the metaphysical element to the story (though adding "Holy ****", as he did, introduces some doubt).

  9. Obviously he's got deficiencies, but at least he's recognised that he needs plenty of help (which Lambert failed to do).

He seems like someone who will make the effort to learn how to play a tactical game. If he doesn't he won't last, and I hope he does. His heroics in the transfer market have won him plenty of patience from me, anyway (but then I'm a patient guy :) ).

  10. People do realise that Ilori's name begins with a capital 'I' (eye) and not a capital 'L' (ell) right?  Because that's totes not going to annoy me forever and ever and ever :D

I too will hold no truck with it.

  11. Choosing England according to independent. Can't say I'm surprised. At least his value will sky rocket when the impending transfer request comes!

    Please make it stop.

Help yourself to speculating about other players, but please leave Jack Grealish alone ffs. He's grown up at Villa, his family are Villa through and through. He's notorious for living and breathing Aston Villa. Maybe one day the years of speculation will wear him out like they did Dwight Yorke, but for now I'd imagine he's a very happy Villan. Way too early for Sale-by-Internet-Messageboard.
