  1. Out of those 3 videos it seems only cassiles positioned himself as far over as Guzan (I'd need to watch the goal again)

No ones denying a well hit free kick can be unstoppable, but being so far over gives you no chance.

In the 3rd examplehexample, cech still gave himself a chance but couldn't stop it due to the power. Against Sunderland and yesterday Guzan gave himself no chance of stopping the goal once it was over the wall.

They were all similar positions to Guzan for the goal. After watching it again it was a very well placed free and there was nothing he could do

  2. We dominated the play yesterday and were unlucky to lose. Sherwood was not the reason we lost.

Are we establishing that months of training, tactics, team set up etc.. Has little to no effect on the results?

Gabby should've done better when out clear with ayew square, bacuna flashed a ball across the 6 yard box which should've been put in, lescott missed a sitter, Guzan made a glaring error for the first.. All of which are not Sherwoods fault.

It's a results business and the results under Sherwood have not been good enough, I'm not defending that, but it doesn't mean the fault lies completely with Sherwood.

Fernandez should have scored after about 10 minutes. A. Ayew missed a sitter (good save from guzan but should have been finished), Gomis missed a decent chance. For their first Guzan was not at fault, it was a very good free.

Sherwood himself has said that he noticed us tiring and not being able to track back but didn't make any changes to sort it. I'd count that his fault and it's another glaring example of his inability to close out games and make the right decisions.

  3. “The last goal … we looked tired, to be honest, we looked like we were out on our feet as we were tracking back and it was too easy – to side-foot a ball in from six yards out under no pressure is not good enough. We can’t carry any players. We’re in a position where every one of our players has to play well to get anything out of any football match. There’s a lack of quality.”

Sherwood maintained that he will keep Villa in the Premier League but his comments about the ability level of the players felt telling. “We can’t do any more as coaches and managers, we’re working as hard as we can, and the players can’t do more regarding effort. They can only give us what they can give us, we can’t turn them into superstars.”

I thought he was meant to be a fantastic man manager.

I wouldn't want to play for a clearing in the woods who said this shit about me to the media.

If we were that tired and he could see it why didn't he bring on a third substitution? Why did he bring on an attacker instead of a midfielder / defender?

  4. Anyone blaming Guzan for the free kick has obviously never played in goal

Yeah, it was just a fantastically placed free-kick.

It's a bit of both. Guzan was so far away from it because of his poor positioning but at the same time it was a very good free and even if Guzan was further left he might not have got it. He should have been a lot closer than he was.

  5. Almost any striker will struggle if he is isolated and about 20 yards from the nearest player as Gestede was for most of the game yesterday. He took the goals well and while I do think the is limited, if we play to his strength by whipping in crosses it looks like he can score

  6. No urgency from the players and it looked to be a deliberate tactic from Sherwood. The couple of times we actually closed Liverpool down and attacked them we looked dangerous but unfortunately that only happened about 3 times.

We never even tried to change up the style of play and have a go at them even when we had a chance of getting back into the game.

Gestede did what he had to and got two goals but he doesn't suit a system where you are playing deep and looking to counter. He's too slow and you can't have a quick break

  7. On talksport they mentioned him. They think he is waiting on whether Ireland qualify and if so will go with them. Obviously they are just making this up, but it would be annoying that's the reason he will choose his nationality.

If Ireland qualify and he then declares I hope we don't bring him to the world cup. I don't care if he's good enough it's not fair on the players who played all through qualification to have him come in at the last minute only because we qualify. He either declares before the end of qualification or doesn't go.

Would that be the World Cup that excludes all the teams outside of Europe?

You're correct. I mean the Euros

  9. Is Luna/Richardson to Amavi the biggest upgrade in a position ever

Why are you including Luna who was on loan last year. It's Cissokho/Richardson to Amavi/Richardson. Which ins't that that big a jump. Amavi looks to be better overall but Cissokho was a solid defensive LB

  10. I'm going to put a slight damper on the hype train. He came on and got dispossed twice in quick succession without tracking back leaving bacuna isolated. he then had two good runs which looked impressive but basically came from a knock past the defender and run faster than him. Against better full backs that kind of thing might not work. The goal was a fluke from what started as a poor cross. His other good run also ended up with an poor enough cross.

He definitely scared their full back and I can't wait to see him play more because he is exciting but he's still raw and I think will mostly be used as an impact sub for the first few months. I don't think he suddenly going to make up for lack of movement / quality in other areas and get us 20 goals a season.

Anyway, onwards and upwards and let's see him tear it up on Tuesday.

  11. We need to practice his throwing techniques, once he has possession, he should have options on both his left, middle or right side as soon as he has it. Practice it in training , make sure the players run into position then ensure Guzan can make the throw , practice practice, practice.

Delaying the throw enables the attacking team to get back, this in turn gives them the confidence to pour forward at any opportunity knowing were going to delay hitting them back once our keeper has the ball.

Guzan has all the hard parts of the game sorted , he just needs his distribution sorted, a plan for him to follow.

All the best keepers have this part if the game trained into them .

His throwing is generally fine. Normally when he takes the ball from a corner / free the first thing he does is look to make a quick throw. The problem is that we normally have everyone back for a corner so there is no one to throw the ball to.

  12. I don't get the blame on Guzan for the goal. He rolled the ball to Amavi when Dann was initially backing off and about 15 yards away. Dann then changed pace and closed down amavi who should have played it away instead of trying to dribble past him. The fault is fully on Amvai for me

  13. He was poor for their first goal but otherwise I thought he had decent game. Main critism I've had from him this year is he seems to be hoofing it up the pitch a bit too much. I'm not sure if that's under instructions or just lack of movement but he needs to knock that out because it's wasting position

  14.  Neville made a good point last night about the lack of an organizor at the back.Richards doesn't do it, we need an experienced, physical CH alongside him.

Clark was doing that last year when playing with Okore. Maybe because richards is the captain he doesn't fell he's supposed to be the one leading the line and tries to take queues from Richards
