In all fairness the loss of Shaw and Hojlund completely derailed them v Fulham. As we know, you can’t plan for that shit.
It’s us v spurs for 4th but reality is that barring some miracles from Bayern 5th will probably be good enough for champions league.
-
Hopefully his time in the Physio room has given him time to reflect on what a wonderful opportunity he has to learn from one of the best managers in the world and one of the best strikers in Europe. Hopefully he’s also learned not to put his faith into a sole player agent that only has his own financial interest at heart.
-
Give him a half or 60 min v Ajax to get him ready for spurs. Rest Pau v Ajax whilst we are at it and start Lenglet on the left.
-
This match will really test our intelligence. Luton will try to intimidate, be overly physical and to create an atmosphere that turns this into a basketball game.
We will need to show huge amounts of desire but most of all patience and intelligence to slow the game down and to play to our strengths. This will not be straightforward as they are fighting for their lives. If we can sort out the defensive set pieces, we should have enough going forward.

Where are you getting this information. Please quote the link
Directly from the horses mouth. It’s not being reported yet as far as I’m aware.

Out for another 2 weeks apparently…..looks like he’s going to miss spurs games unless he comes in ahead of schedule.
-
The amazing thing is we have so many contenders. Martinez, Pau, Luiz, McGinn, Bailey….. but for me it’s Watkins at the moment.

-
Hopefully Konsa or Carlos will be back for Ajax away as that’s the obvious game to give Pau a rest.
-
I agree fully re Archer. He’s done nothing at Sheff Utd to suggest he’s good enough for us. Buy him back and sell him to one of the clubs promoted from the championship.
Philogene is intriguing. We have a space for another winger/forward but in a perfect world we could buy Nico Williams if we make champions league but question is do we have the PSR room to do that? Philogene might just be the bargain option.
-
We all know set pieces are the threat so we have to control the game and keep them away from our box - easier said than done.
Hopefully Pau is fit and gives us the control. Martinez then needs to come and claim everything off set pieces.

I would say Sousa is at the stage in his development where he is too good to simply be a development player. He is an extremely athletic, tall, technically adept player who is in need of senior football. If he develops well at Plymouth between now and the end of the season he would be looking at that back left back slot.
He and Nedejovic (can't remember how his name is spelt) are both quick athletic six footers, good both defensively and offensively, and are potentially future first choice fullback options.
If we move.on Digne (which I believe is likely), we may sign an experienced player like Acuna on lower wages and has Sousa as the 3 in line. But if Sousa can impress in preseason don't be surprised if he does become Moreno's back up. The potential is huge with him.
Both him and Nedeljovic have ideal profiles for what a top team would want in a fullback (although lacking in experience).
They’ll probably give Sousa a chance in pre season to stake a claim.

Recovery from such injuries has been much improved in recent years as the medical techniques have improved
Hopefully they both get back to their previous ability so they can contribute to what feels like is going to be a wonderful few years for us. It just wouldn’t feel right if we finally won something and Ty was not in the squad.

So very likely outs in the summer will be:
- Donks, Chambers, Zaniolo, Lenglet, Hause, Sanson
Likely outs could be:
- Digne, Cash, Kesler Hayden
Other outs depending on PSR/maturity:
- A senior player/Carlos, Duran.
Assuming Mings, Buendia and Kamara make a full recovery and Duran and Carlos stay the ins could look like:
- Starting RB;
- defensive midfielder (Kamara cover);
- Watkins cover/left winger; (assuming we don’t already have that in Morgan)
- back up LB (assuming the kid from arsenal needs another couple of years)
- Young CB;
Wages won’t be an issue if we get those players off the books. Hopefully some of the sales + champions league revenue will be sufficient to deliver the key upgrades that won’t come cheap.
-
Also with Ty, Buendia and Kamara back and some more shaping with the squad (Rb, Kamara cover, Watkins cover) over the summer we’d have a much stronger and balanced squad overall to compete on multiple fronts.

Ty being back would be hugely positive. Genuine competition to Konsa and Pau and in the physical/set piece heavy games you’d play Konsa at RB and Pau and Ty together. He’d play plenty of games even allowing for a managed return. If we can sell Carlos and add a young right footed potential Pau we’d be in dreamland.
-
They will replace Howe in the summer if they have any sense. Mourinho would be perfect for them for a couple of years.
-
He did really well and great to see as will get plenty of game time when the Europa games start again.

Europa final
Too close to call for me and there’s a long way to go.Thanks for this. It’s very helpful to see the fixtures side by side. I’ve added the Europa schedule as well as the extra games will have a significant impact. Obviously the game v spurs will be absolutely crucial. Win that and it will be difficult for them to catch us.

Even so, if we draw with spurs, I can't see them getting 70 points? They play Newcastle away, City and Arsenal in their last 3 games. They might only get 12 points from the rest, plus one for a draw with us would leave them on 63 points I think...
No they don’t. They have 6 guaranteed points v burnley and Sheffield utd in their last two games. I have spurs ending on 70 points.

We won't need 71 points to finish top 5
Top 4 will be circa 70 points. Fifth place is not guaranteed so no point planning on that.

Huge weekend. 6 more wins needed and at least a draw v spurs.

We made bids for JWP who'd signed a 5 year deal 6 months earlier and a Southampton source said no approach had been made to the club
And what exactly does that have to do with arsenal’s confirmed bids for Luiz?
-
Pretty much every single reputable outlet reported that arsenal made at least three bids for Luiz but yeah they’re all just making it up

I think Arsenal can't afford him and the whole chatter before is made up bollocks
Arsenal definitely made multiple formal bids for Luiz previously.

PSR is fine in principal.
It’s actually very easy to fix the issues. Any loss over the permitted limits needs to be fully funded by the owners in advance. If you want to lose 100m fine, stick it in escrow and you can gamble your own money and not the clubs future.
Different rules clearly needed for any club with any significant holding from any individual connected with a nation state.Any loss they make has to be met by an equivalent solidarity payment to the league to be split across all other premier league clubs. Any sponsorship deals for a nation state owned club can’t exceed the equivalent from a non nation state club. I.e. in the UK Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal would be the cap.
Lots of detail required but it’s very easy to fix if the real intention is just to stop clubs going bust.
