  1. Yeah, absolutely understand that point of view. It's the same view I'd take on someone offering £20m/£30m for Vardy, great money for a 31 year old. But he's a 20 goal a season striker, how could we replace him unless we got very very lucky. Boils down to the financial pressures doesn't it really and whether you're in the position to even make that sort of decision.
  2. The offer is exactly in line with what I suggested, your best hope is a bidding war. Would be utterly amazed if anyone offered anything north of £25 including add ons. Which of course you are entitled to reject or ask for more of course, but it won't get paid IMO. So the view will need to be taken that if he's not going to sign a new contract or you can't afford to offer him a lucrative one... is £15m / £20m / £25m better than £10m or less next summer, if as a few have said he'll only have a year left It's exactly the situation we're in... we see CB's going for £75m so we value Mahrez at more. But nobody is willing to pay it, so our choice is to take £65 / £75m now or accept that we'll probably lose him for £25m / £30m next summer.
  3. Welcome to the world of football outside of the premier league. Excluding a handful of clubs at the top end of the championship, this IS life for all football league teams. This isn't looking down or sneering, this will be the reality for Leicester again at some point. Perhaps I'm just more used to that existence having spent a good chuck of time down there, where you've done well to keep out of it pretty much.
  4. Ha... good luck to you whatever happens. Apologies for upsetting a few people, I didn't post to antagonise anyone. But reacted badly to a few people taking a pop at me, or attempting to make out I was being disingenuous.
  5. What rumours would they be? We'd paid a £3m fine and that's the end of it.
  6. There is a difference between performed at and played at. He's only had 1600 minutes at that level, you only started him in 7 games and 9 games, so that suggests he wasn't performing at that level.
  7. Is it because the people coming up with the Villa figure are delusional? Take away the mental transfers of Neymar, Coutinho and VVD (all linked) £60m is a great price. Sallah was £35m after banging in goals galore in Italy. English player proven in the premier league go for £30m ish, not championship players. Reality of the Championship soon bites I'm afraid, with FFP and SKY TV money, few clubs could turn down any reasonable offer for their best players. Whether you are Villa, Leeds, Leicester, or Derby. Will Hughes was a very decebt championship player, cost £8m. Strikers banging in the goals every week, £13-£15m. That's the reality of the championship marketplace. If you'd only just come down, nobody would be able to buy him as you are in a decent position thanks to the parachute payments. But eventually clubs have to cut the cloth.
  8. All of whom had performed at premier league level. Now name a promising championship player who has gone for those fees?
  9. Could you point out where I've gloated about anything? I've discussed his valuation, nothing else.
  10. Nobody is looking down from what I can see, just that very few think he's worth anything close to the reported numbers, for all the reasons I outlined yesterday. Thinking you'd get £30-40m is laughable, I'm sorry it just is. We're losing out best player, the best player we've ever had, a player who gets bags full of goals and assists at a higher level whilst in a defensive team, a PFA player of the year... for £60m. Your numbers just don't add up, the market as you seem to see it, we do not. You are within your rights to ask for however much you want, everyone else is also free to say he's worth nothing close to that. I know it's emotive with him, he's a fan we all adore that sort of player when they come through, but the market hasn't moved on as much as you seem to think it has.
  11. No lording fella, football is swings and roudabouts. We'll be relegated at some point and you'll be promoted and you'll be taking our managers and players again just like you have done in the past. That's football.
  12. Oh no, I recognise all of those things and I've taken them into account. Anyway, last post. Again, good luck.
  13. Anyway, I've dominated this thread enough. Good luck next season whatever happens.
  14. I'm a bit out of the loop on all the FFP stuff now as I know they've changed the rules a few times since we went up. I'm not sure what the punishments even are now if you just said "**** it, lets not bother with FFP"?
  15. I'll happily wager £10 to a charity of your choice that you don't get more than £25m, including add ons.
  16. Yeah someone mentioned that, I've seen the Swiss Ramble stuff and the Dr's statement and it just read like you needed to do a bit more than trim the fat. You guys have more knowledge than I on your situation.
  17. N'didi cost us the same as Mendy... but they are light years away from each other in terms of quality. What one flop costs doesn't dictate from someone else does. We know that oh so well as we've signed so many shite players for big money the last two years. Mahrez should be worth about £700m comparing his talents and Musa, who cost us about £20m. Agree about your best way out of it and I hope you can do it. Got loads of Villa mates and I've been down yours with them no end of times.
  18. He had performed at premier league level, he's been the standout player for Everton and he's probably now England's number one keeper. If you'd got promoted and Jack had performed next season as well, then you'd probably be absolutely right in the valuation.
  19. It hinges on what your other saleable assets are I suppose, if he can cover the costs without selling the prodigal son. Then it puts you in a much stronger position of course, to rebuff any offer you want, which will push the price up for any interested party.
  20. Depends on a lot of factors of course, I just came to see what people had to say about the lad and couldn't believe what I was reading with some actually thinking you'd get £30-£40m. That will not happen. There is that middle ground between the £15-£25m with loads of adds ons that the scenario can swing between depending on who is the most desperate. That's the area you'd be looking at IMO.
  21. Nobody knows for sure, the point I'm making is that everyone can read and the statement is quite clear that there will be cost cutting. Buying clubs will know that and test you, doesn't matter if it's us, West Ham, Burnley, Everton or anyone else.
  22. You can ask what you want, it doesn't mean people are going to pay it. You aren't in a good position I'm afraid, the Chairman's statement screamed of "Fire Sale" and won't go unnoticed by interested clubs. It's likely they will be willing to call his bluff and low ball you to see how desperate he is.
