As already stated in this thread, it appears suspensions do carry through but the yellow card count is wiped.

So he's not suspended, he picked up yellow cards not a suspension.

How can you get a yellow in open play for time wasting. Players take a ball to the corner flag all the time to deliberately waste time, is that bookable now. First yellow should be rescinded. Just a two bob ref trying to make a name for himself.

Shows the standard of commentary when they don't even notice it, the ref lost complete control, Lille tried to get the goal disallowed and the penalty. They re took a corner when their first attempt was hopeless.

Their second goal, lille player held onto Rogers and stopped him challenging for the ball, then they moaned about us doing the same in the first leg..

Glad we won and glad it's over but the display from them and the officials leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Martinez just stood his ground against them,  they don't like it up em.

What a match, what a ride. That referee though, surely that's his career over. Just watched the shootout again and the bit where he goes up to Dougie as if to tell him to take it, and Dougie has to remind him he hasn't blown his whistle yet... absolutely farcical.

The ref walks towards the ball as Doug runs up to take his penalty as well, the shit housery was all from Lille and the ref, Martinez did nothing at all apart from dance.

  4. Refreshing to see a nations media (french) defending their team, despite their fans throwing stuff on the pitch at Martinez and throwing footballs on the pitch to disrupt Ollies penalty and the ref getting in Dougs face before his and him encroaching on the ball in Dougs run up. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour tbh yet Martinez is seen as the bad one.

Watch the penalties again, Lille were throwing every trick in the book to disrupt us.

The referee made me hanker for Mike Dean.  He was one of the worst I've ever seen, I don't think there was really a bad tackle in the whole match yet he was flashing cards around like a vegas dealer.

He even delayed our moment of joy after the save by putting his hand in the air and making everyone wait, wanting all the attention after if finished.  Absolute clown.

It was unbelievable tbh and it makes me question our desire to play in Europe and expose ourselves to these types of officials. Watched a bit of the West Ham game and he was very similar to our ref as well. Not quite as bad but ours was exceptionally bad.

No, I think he is banned unless we successfully appeal one of the cards.

So this doesn't count in your world?

Article 52 of the regulations that “all yellow cards expire on completion of the quarter-finals”,

I read something like you get suspended for every 3 yellow cards after the group stages and he got that so who knows.

I know, he ain't banned,  rules are clear despite some of the media not knowing them.

  8. Disgraceful, our FA cup being sacrificed for more European games, UEFA are trying to wrestle the power away from British football and its deaths by a thousand cuts. Even though we have just had our most memorable win in Europe for years I still wouldn't swap it for the tradition of the FA cup, its in our soul. Seeing us playing Lille with their whingeing fans and terrible ref is just not as good  as watching Nott County earn a late draw against manure on a cold winters night, crazy but it just ain't.

Despite his crucial role in Aston Villa's victory, Martinez's celebration was short-lived. The accumulation of three yellow cards over the two legs of the quarter-finals triggered a mandatory one-match suspension.

Read this online.. is this true?

    No

We really don’t play to his strengths, not once did we play into space for him to run into - he is more a victim of our slow ass build up play than being a poor player.  There is no doubt (in my mind) he is a class player, just not in how we play unfortunately.

A more offensive RB will help.

Wonder what the ref was telling him there.

He was telling him to shoot as the keeper was ready. I don't think I have ever seen such incompetence from a ref the decisions were baffling, Duran got a yellow card for challenging for the ball, it was endless shit housery  from Lille and the ref helped. Unbelievable tbh.

I thought the yellow was a tad harsh as the crowd got him that card

Lille keeper had the ball longer at one stage in 2nd half

The ball was in play for ages then he picked it up and got carded, the fans played the ref and Martinez played the fans, Martinez won 🏆

  13. The most frightening part of this type of player selection is how long its taken us to start finding them and it appears to be another one of Emerys strengths (he's a football god).

He's a big lad with a subtle touch and an eye for a pass, strong on the ball,  improving off the ball with each game. He's local, has a big support network and knows the area, feels at home.

Reminds me a little bit of Tom Huddlestone, his stature and his eye for a pass and strength. Hopefully he isn't as injury prone as Tom + fitter.

  14. It's the political swing right in the west that's the real concern, pro putin politicians are gaining traction in the old Eastern block. It's points to conflict, I just hope we keep our aircraft carriers out of harms way because from what I have heard/read they are very vulnerable and very unreliable.

Pep will only ever move to "a sure thing". The only one left is PSG. Can see Enrique doing a lot of the hard work for this non galactico rebuild, failing in the CL then Pep moving in around 15 months to "save the day".

With no Klopp and Arsenal being the usual bottlers they will absolutely walk the PL next season.

They looked flat to me, Hallard didnt look bothered by any of it. Looks like they need fresh blood in to motivate em. Hopefully Arsenal can put a run of wins in to stick some pressure on them and they stutter. Be great for football if they won nothing this season, come on Chelsea.
