He will replace Whelan in midfield as soon as Samba (or Terry) is back.

I really doubt that, on this seasons form Whelan is probably our most important player (after Terry).

for me, we need find right all-round forward or centre forward as we is spent crazy and wastefully money on McCormack and Hogan, and result of this buy- is "Turds"

original think of them is actually quality player which turn be is flopped buy and shames see this happen might rush to buy without research suit bruce style be fair it is not players (McCormack or Hogan fault) it is who bruce were fault. Bruce is one who mess up last season ie 4-5-1 (4-3-3) was best formation and winning, he bin it and try new that why he got most games lose last season as he try play McCormack and Hogan which is not working.. .

this season, we back to winning formation make sure he buy right players for this formation until summer so can change once again.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

other priorty buy is LEFT Back as we kept play right foot to play left back, which i didn't like which only one N.taylor has this roles, we should buy one when amavi left for us, this windows is good chance to sign as buy or loan with right to buy.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
we need sell gabby and hogan, McCormack, thsiobla, bikir too (he is waste money too! he was pointless buy don't get reason he is move there) to generate money to spent due FFP rules.

Sorry, but is google translate a member of this forum ?

At 39 he is putting Richards to shame.

I believe he will do a job for us and good job Bruce plugged this hole.

Save the whole Baker debate as we all know it was a bit clumsy to sell him, but then maybe he had to? Maybe the player wanted first team football and was not promised it?

Either way I think he Samba will do okay for us for now.

    If you're referring to Samba, he's 33 not 39.

  5. Kodgia and Adomah are the only two players we have that have the skill and creativity to do anything exciting.

Kodgia wasn't amazing on Saturday, but the difference in our attacking play since he came back has been stark. He is still by far our best player, and I am sure that we will see him get fitter and stronger and score more goals, but strikers are greedy, and I hope he stays that way. Assists and opening up play for others just aren't in every strikers game.

According to Transfermarkt.com Harry Kane has one assist in 9 Premier League Games (794 mins), Jonathon Kodgia has 2 assists in 7 Championship Games (453 mins)

Kodgia might not be at Kane's level, but he is just as important for us

  6. He doesn’t do anything spectacular, which is why I think some people view him as not being good. I see a player that does the simple things really well, a player that enables Hourihane to push further forward without exposing us. I see a player who makes 15 yard passes rather than 30 yard passes, and who breaks up opposition play really well.

I think if he wasn’t in the team we’d miss him.

    Make it four.

Some of the stuff on here lately has made me lose interest in this site unfortunately. Agree we're not where we should be but with the Doctor, the better squad and a general better feel around VP we're on the right track. It was never going to happen overnight.

the fact some have hoped we lose to get the manager sacked has shocked me. Our away support is second to none and I'm afraid to say, I think some of the people on here rarely go to games.

I kind of agree with this, although I am still not sure Bruce is the right man, there are a lot more positives around the club, and we certainly seem to be a slicker machine off the pitch.

This season is crucial however, as the parachute payment next season is drastically reduced. Failure to get promotion this season would put a club like ours at a serious disadvantage over smaller clubs with smaller infrastructure as we'd have pretty much the same money to play with as them, but far greater outgoing.....it could get really messy.

that said thought it's clear that Wyness and Co. have planned for that eventuality, and I do believe we've been clever with getting players on shorter contracts.

Tony is in my opinion doing a great job, and while nobody is above criticism I am struggling to see what more some fans could have expected for him given the mess we were in when he arrived.

  8. Well I've been patient, but for me that was the final straw. I even waited a day before I checked on villatalk, but enough is enough.

brentford at home was a must win game, the Dr already identified September as a crucial month, therefore if we don't beat Middlesboro at home on Tuesday it should be time for Bruce to pack his bags.

Listening to his post match interviews he sounds as clueless as his team is playing. Yesterday he was all blame me I should have changed things, and then he was blaming the fact who we had players on international duty.....surely if that's any of the problem at all then it's indication that we have better players than other teams in this league.

Moaning that the three youngsters he played were tired after international duty....then maybe use your squad and rest them ? There are options !

Its great that he has given Davis a chance, but playing a 19 year old rookie on his own up front was really hanging the kid out to dry. Even a brain damaged moron can see that Davis can hold the ball up, but needs a partner to take some of the burden. He and Hogan seem to be made for each other, And you would have expected that Hogan would have relished a start against his former club (I am aware that when he came on he was shit, but by then the whole team was a shambles).

Its all very well and good accepting blame, but when are you going to attack teams ? Wyness has stated we needed to score 80 goals to get promoted, and yet 6 games in we sit back and let teams come at us, and have 7 goals in 6 games....it's simply not good enough, and I don't believe we will get promoted with Bruce in charge.

sods law says we'll beat boro on Tuesday and be stuck with this mug for several more games until our chances of getting promoted have totally disappeared.

i hope that alternatives are already being looked at and I hope there are no footballing dinosaurs on that list (no Moyes, Allardyce etc). Time for Round and Wayne's to earn their money !

This Villa Engine needs the AA !

  9. This guy is going to be a very important player for us. He didn't do anything spectacular today, probably we hardly noticed him, but Josh Murphy was turning Hutton inside out before Bree came on, Bree kept him much quieter.

I can see him settling into the team, and making the right back spot his own.

  10. The worry is (as has been mentioned elsewhere) that with Round and Wyness here already we'll end up with their buddy Moyes.I don't think we need another footballing dinosaur.

I understand the push for Dean Smith, but I would prefer someone who has been in and around big clubs, so I'd go for someone like Jaap Stam or Karanka if we couldn't get Jokanovic

When I watch Hogan I see an intelligent striker who has sharp initial pace which allows him to get beyond CB's in a two or three yard burst. He makes runs that our other strikers don't think about and stretches defences. I agree with a number of other posters that he needs better service before he scores regularly. He has the right predatory instincts and finishing ability, but sadly he's playing in a system that starves him of quality ball at the moment.

Hogan is this years McCormack. We just kill this type of player.

I've seen that report.....but tell me how that correlates with the official statement released by the club?

Wyness says we have lost £83.3m over the last 3 years and are in effect in breach of FFP already. FFP allows our losses to be £83m (2 x £35m premier league season + 1 x £13m Championship). Next year the 3 year tally will need to be below £61m and if we don't go up, £39m the year after.

The Wyness statement again contradicts the Guardian article...how can we have lost £81m 2 seasons ago, but only show a 3 year loss of £83.3m?

It's something to do with the link to Reform Acquisitions which I assume is what the reference regarding turnover refers to. The report states turnover as being  "in the main determined by a trading agreement with another group company " mentioned in the strategic report and was used as the vehicle for Lerner to manage the loans and payments he made to and took out of the company etc (someone with better knowledge of this could I am sure explain to you better then I can).

    See above

Try looking at this (and there has been much discussion about the losses over the years).

    Villa Lose £81M

Also, think about it rationally, if Villa's wage bill during 2015-2016 (upto May 2016) was £93M and turnover was £108M, if they then spent £60M on transfers in the summer of 2016 and had a drastically reduced revenue from TV how can we not have made a loss greater than £13M in 2017 ?

We did spend bucket loads yes....from transfer monies recieved and premier league parachute payments. No extra investment from the owner really was there?

FFP allows a £13m loss per season (EFL now in line with Premier League)...this is reviewed over a 3 year period. We are using the FFP line as a get out in my opinion. I highly doubt the owner has the kind of funds he makes out, or at least if he does have them, he damn well ain't gonna be pumping into Villa!

When did Villa last make a profit ?

When did Villa last breakeven ?

When did Villa last lose less than £13 million in a season ?

Last year the owner bought the club, paid off the debt and then (naively) sanctioned large spending.  With the amount of players we have, the reduced income we have, and the wages of the players that were here before and in some cases signed last year we are in serious danger if we don't go up this year ! to suggest FFP is being used some kind of smokescreen is foolish IMO.

I can't argue against the appointment. I'm arguing that he has to deliver next season or he should be sacked. We just aren't in a financial position to give him years to build something.

If we are losing games and aren't at least in the playoffs after 10 games I am very sure that Bruce will be sacked, he's had plenty of time and has been backed to bring in his own players so there is no excuse for him anymore.

He knew the size of the job, he knew the size of the club, and he knows what is expected.

personally though, given all that I have said I think he'll still be our manager at the end of the season.

Our wage bill was 88% of our revenue the year we went down. It hasn't got any better and we are in big trouble next season if we are still in the championship. The revenue drop next year is massive and we would have to clear out most of the squad but I doubt there will be many takers for any of the players

     Agreed

That  would be the ones we've been linked to this summer. So fingers crossed it's just speculation and me worrying for nothing.

Although everyone is technically aging :D

We currently have 13 players in the squad who are 28 or older (or 12 if Cissokho is gone, is he?) I really don't think we should add to that number unless it's someone extremely vital.

The squad is positively bloated and few if any of these older players has any sell on value. We certainly won't make profit on any of them.

I don't disagree with any of that, but it's not what you originally said.
