I am struggling to remember Percy ever getting it wrong. In an industry almost built on lies Percy is a very rare professional indeed.

That said both Percy and Di Marzio are saying is simply what the club are telling them.

Maybe Milan/agent are making up stories about our interest to smoke out other suitors or Villa aren't giving anything away because they dont know if it'll happen and they dont want to fuel hype unnecessarily. My money is on the former as a lot about this doesn't ring true.

I thought he bought quite high on the benrahma and particularly kalvin Phillips to us stuff but again as I say might have crossed wires here.

If Percy has said no, it would take actualy ITSOTP for me to believe it had happened.

Not having a go with this comment but didn’t he get quite a fair amount wrong in the summer? If my memory serves me correct which admittedly can be suspect.

Or that other striker we have that seems to score a few when he is played for more than 5 minutes at a time...

No idea why Smith is being so stubborn, Wesley clearly can't cut it on his own so either drop him & play Kodjia or stick someone else up there with him in a two. Either would make the opposition a little more concerned about pushing players higher up the pitch than the not exactly nippy Wes just stood on his own 5 yards inside his own half

Agree with you mate but he clearly isn’t keen on kodjia is he. Funny because I’m sure when we came up I remember him saying the style of play in the prem would suit him blah blah blah.

maybe jt has been in his ear and he’s shagged deans mrs, who knows

Interesting stat on villa on tour vid, we are the only team in the premiership this season so far to NOT score a single headed goal......

    Blimey....

    Wow. Quite the stat that

Is this signing intended to allow us to play 3 CBs & then proper wing backs in front of them?

Doubt it with Mr Smith in charge. Could be wrong mind you

Great, 2 strikers on the pitch that don't know how to score rather than just the one.

I mean in a sense you aren’t wrong.

That being said the alternative is two wingers that can’t beat a man, track back, beat the first man with a cross or finish their dinner.

no win atm really is it

Pretty sure Jota gets on really well with Wes and helped him settle.  Jota seemed on his wavelength earlier in the season but it's hard to get them both in the team.

    Agree with this too

There was a similar scenario in the newcastle game I think.  Grealish and Mcginn + Wes counter , Wesley seemed like the best option but Jack opted to play Mcginn instead who had a tight angle to get his shot off

I remember that too. Have thought since then that there are either cliques or no faith in the lads ability in the camp. Or both.

Although Giroud would be a massive step up in quality I doubt he can last more than 60-70 minutes, which would still leave us relying on our not good enough strikers to fill in.

Tbf the limits of wesleys press lasts around 20-30 minutes so sounds ideal

  10. Plays like an inexperienced kid who’s got some ability, which is exactly what he is.

An old head alongside him a la cambiasso when he went to Leicester could have been a master stroke. This priority on young signings is biting us on the arse quite badly. Need a leader in every line when you’re in the murky waters, there’s just no responsibility shown.

to say the kid can’t pass forward or has no ability is overblown and frankly untrue, but yes he does need something different alongside him. I’ve seen more from him than I saw from Veretout for example who’s gone on to some pretty special stuff and he had on paper a perfect midfield partner in idrissa next to him most of the time.

Wouldn’t this represent a bad deal for us? He’d be on high wages no doubt and he’d be a bad influence on the dressing room, it’s a no from me

What’s this based on? Not criticising, genuinely interested.

I think Jack would at least give it a season,  just because its his club.

Mcginn, because of how hes been slated of late may start to feel its time to move on if we drop, however I am hoping he would choose the other like I think Jack will.

Our problem is now is we need player to come in and be an instant hit, stand up along with others who are doing others work for them and be another man added into the side that counts. They don't have to be like Jack, they just need to be better or want to be. We really need some amazing talent in who wants to bring Villa back alive, it can happen in the right individuals.

Another problem is we seemed to have brought in a few players who have injurys going on left right and center, not good when they are your main men.

The dropping on the floor S*** has to God damn stop unless injured, that's to any of them.

Be tougher, more aggressive, show the damn heart, this club gave them all another chance or a new life in top flight football, find a way to repay that back to the Owners and your coach. Your in the best league of them all in the world and your ready to give in and die, that's the message your sending everyone out there who supports you, that's what I'd be saying as a Coach, I'd go all Fergie on them to be honest.

It can happen but there's some problems at Villa and it's not just players, well at least I don't think it is anyway. I think there is a real problem between what Smith wants in and what Jesus and the scouts are looking for, it has to be.

Our owners need to be prepared to risk whatever it takes here if they want to stay up on a front line that can make things happen that is wingers and striker, those three positions are now vital they are fixed. Priority is that we need one possibly two more midfielders who are Hot products, it's all going to cost but it's worth it to get the job done.

Point blank we need players who are in fire at the moment, you dont get that by digging i to leagues that are no where the standard of where the best in the world play, do you??

I can't go onto fifa 20 with a 60-70 rated team against a 90+ rated team and win, although have done it twice is not the point, but hope you all get where I'm coming from. I know I wouldn't get very far with those rated teams against the best I'm the world, they would destroy me, it's no different than real life.

    I don’t

Think we did it against Palace for a bit after we went down to 10 men? From what I remember, it worked surprisingly well.

I think you’re right, keinan has the dirty side of the game that Wes just doesn’t posses, think they’d both thrive in a two.

*i use the term thrive loosely fwiw*

I was sure that I remembered him playing on the right hand side of defence for Croatia but then watched a video and he was playing on the left using his left foot, but having watched a few more videos in those he's playing on the right using his right foot, so I guess he can play on either side and use both feet. in that case would be a good signing, not only is he a good defender but also has the kind of character that would lift the other players. But I don't think he alone would fix our defensive issues, for that I think we need a top quality defensive midfielder, Mendy from Leicester is likely to be available for a cut price as his contract runs out in six months, I'd be going all out to sign him.

    Mendy is a good shout

  15. He’s one of the current crop of modern full backs who can’t defend to save their lives. The better of such description have some bail out pace to allow them to at least try to attain for their errors. He’s horrifically slow, makes old cuellar from back in the day look rapid.

Very keen to go off injured and then return miraculously a week or two later, no bottle at all

  16. He’s right footed

And from what I’ve seen of him (admittedly not a great deal) he’s at least the equal of Engels with more pace (wouldn’t take much) and a bit of a clearing in the woods which wouldn’t go a miss.

works for us now, works for us if we stay up, works for us if we go down.

    sensible all round IMO

Forgive me for being naive... but we are tied for 6th in terms of goals scored (even if you knock off 3 goals from that tally given the rout on Saturday, we are top half).

Feels to me like we are doing more than enough up front to stay up. The real question for me is what is missing that we’ve been unable to maintain leads. Is that just experience and time - I think so?

Could also be the lack of viable attacking options to bring off the bench to keep the pressure on the opposition late in games.

Ive been a bit bewildered by deans substitutions or lack there of but the more I think of it the man knows the game and sees what we all see as fans rather well if not better than any manager I can think of for us (putting jack out wide for example) So there must be a reason as to why he’s not introducing attackers off the bench to keep said pressure on when we can all see the starters are flagging a bit.

An addition of genuine attacking quality in January could remove that uncertainty at the very least

To be fair though, if green can't break in to their side, he has zero chance at Villa.

Not necessarily always the case, I remember gabby struggling to get into the Watford team in the championship many moons ago and we all know how that turned out.

think the injury ruined him myself, doesn’t look the same explosive athlete anymore

I definitely had that in mind, but I can say with some degree of certainty that those idiots didn't know about that. You'd really have to put some thought into it to make that association, and even then the association is extremely tenuous. These geniuses didn't do any thinking beyond "he's black. rastas are black". I mean, rasta doesn't even rhyme with Nakamba at all for one. It's just bone-headedness all around. They really embarrassed us.

You aren’t wrong mate just playing devils advocate.

    bunch of clowns

Is he the penalty taker, or was it because he was on a hat trick? I'd have Hourihane taking them.

Bit of column A and bit of column B I would imagine.

seems to have a good strikers ego so doubt he would give up the chance at a pen and you aren’t going to deny a lad who’s been criticised a bit the chance of a hat trick.

I imagine he’s the “designated” taker if we have such a thing
