Year-old-ish Villa fan & longtime baseball fan here. The Rangers went to back-to-back World Series in 2010 and 2011, which is quite a feat in Major League Baseball. They were one play away(as close as it possibly gets) to winning in 2011, but a poorly-fielded fly ball led to one of the most improbable comebacks of all-time and the 11th World Series victory for my beloved St. Louis Cardinals  icon_biggrin.pngThe Texas Rangers have done this in what has been the toughest division in baseball for the past 5 years. They lost the play-in game in 2012 playoffs, and narrowly missed the playoffs entirely last season. Each of the past 4 years, they have won over 90 games, which is generally good enough to make the playoffs most seasons.Personnel:They let some of their biggest free agents leave the team the past 3 off-seasons, but these decisions have proven wise as the players have under-performed for their new teams. This past off-season, they made a trade to bring in one of the highest-paid players in the league(1B Prince Fielder). Much like any front office sport, baseball is all about calculated risk, and they have had the guts to both trust their farm system(youth system) to fill voids of expensive players departing, and bring in expensive players themselves on their own terms. Also, they brought in Nolan Ryan as their president when they purchased the team. Not only is he one of the most beloved Rangers of all-time, he is extremely knowledgeable and well-respected.Their manager is somewhat of an old-school-type manager, and not my favorite. There are a lot of advanced statistics used in baseball, and Ron Washington not considered very progressive...more of a "player's manager". Keep in mind, in Baseball, the Manager simply manages the game and has no control over what players come in, come out. I have felt before that they could do better with a more progressive manager, but they have been very loyal to Washington.Finances:They have the 8th-highest payroll(8 of 30) in baseball currently at $136M. The team payroll in 2009 was $68M, well in the bottom-half of the league. Payroll has increased steadily, which is a good sign. I wouldn't take the steady increase as a sign that they won't provide and influx of cash to Villa, because in baseball the WORSE thing you can do is spend a ton on free agent players. You need to build from within and sprinkle in free agent signings. This is exactly what they have done. They also didn't panic after performing slightly-below expectations the past two years. They are very much contenders again this year.In summary, it appears that they have done all the right things since taking over the Rangers. I particularly love how they have seemed put others in charge of the decision-making, and have kept the team consistently viable since taking over. I think we should be very encouraged by this news.

    Great read

  2. said it so many times about the guy, he has a dream job, he plays for his boyhood club and gets paid handsomely for doing so, everyone of us would give our right arm to be in his situation, but he looks like he dose not care half the time

really thing andi has become the fall guy for a lot of the season , gabby was far worse then wiemann today

How so? Gabby at least got into positions where he could receive the ball and attempt to do something with it.

only time i seen gabby get into a decent position his touch was harder the kea shot on goal, gabby was playing centre forward and the amount of crosses mark put in, he wasnt near one, how is this getting into positions? maybe its just a diffrence of opinion but thats the way i see it

Look how Manchester City are doing it. Look at PSG. These rules are far from bulletproof.

Manchester City have a sponsor for the youth complex, and for the new youth complex they're having built. They have a stadium sponsor, they have New York City FC who will pay them a management fee.

If the likes of Starbucks and Amazon can operate in the UK without paying much tax then the world's wealthiest people can find loopholes in FFP. These people aren't rich by accident.

And Man United with DHL sponsoring the training kit. Yes the **** training kit. Spurs have already got multiple kit sponsors. It's how it's going as clubs know very very few can be competitive to FFP rules so sadly, whether we hate it, evrything will be sponsored. It's nothing new, I got old programmes where each player was sponsored in the matchday programme, though Kavs for Lavs sponsoring Ian Olney isn't the most exciting of deals.

I always thought FFP only came into being if you were competing in european competition? Don't matter I reckon. If you got the dollar, then come on in boys is the mantra.

barca did deal with intel to put logo on inside of jersey hehe

If the choice is Wes Hoolahan for £3-4m or nobody at all I would go for signing Hoolahan. We are desperate for an ACM to try and help improve our style of play, particularly at home.

Lets hope for a few surprises over the next week.

I think if Lambert had £3-4m to spend on one player then he wouldn't be after Hoolahan in the first place.

I think if Lambert had 5 Million to spend on 1 player he would bring Hoolahan in.

    On what basis?

Me, id have the scouts out looking for a up and coming creative midfielder.

And you know Lambert isn't doing that?

Well im not sure! But what I do know, is all the media info at the moment, seem to point to his desperation for hoolahan. Even he has handed in a transfer request to try and force his way here.

tend to  agree with stefan , how do we know lambert is still after wes, all we know is the player reacted to a bid being rejected from another prem league team while he has been sitting on the bench, only thing at the moment thats keeping this story alive at the moment is us

  6. My first name on a jersey was meant to say milosevic, but was only 8 and girl in shop said would not fit on child's jersey , she put just Savo on it, this resulted in nickname Savo that still used nearly 20years later

  7. Really can't see the problem with the way we have behaved in all this, we lodged a formal bid for Wes, they went public about rejecting our bid and how the bid was insulting amount, then there player put in a transfer request, all to me seems like norwich need to keep there house bit more clean
