  1. Watched a fair amount of Sunderland last season. He was easily one of their top players. This would be an amazing signing if the money is right.

  2.

Got all excited when I noticed the polo's in my size. Then I checked U.S. shipping and about fell out of my chair. I get it but wow that's a bummer.

Despite the fact that I can walk any sports store out here and buy Man Utd merchandise, they still only charge £6.95 to deliver to the UAE via their online store.

Compare that to Villa, where I can't get anything for love nor money, and I have to pay £15 for delivery on a new shirt.

That's even worse considering our shipments are $24 when you look at the exchange rate. I would be willing to wait a few weeks on standard shipping if the option were available. <_<

  3. Haven't read the last 3 or so pages but I'm genuinely staggered at how many people are saying "by all means re-name the stadium, that's ok".

    **** football, man.

    The desperation is palpable.

  4. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Lambert just quit. He won't want to be left in limbo not knowing if he's coming or going. Seems like there might be a few job vacancies for him to go after as well.

Mark my words if the sale doesn't happen or stalls and Lambert did walk away we would be screwed.

  5. When he first signed I remember someone posted Youtube highlights of him with aab and I was immediately impressed even if the competition wasn't near PL. I still think the guy can play and I feel strongly something happened we don't know about that has held him back. His agent pretty much squashed the injury rumor. Still really hope he has a place here and if not I'll be keeping tabs on his development elsewhere so we can all say I told you so to whoever the doubters were.

  6.

Going or not. Knows it or don't. He's being honest.

I don't think he is. There's no way he doesn't know what's going to happen in terms of a takeover in the summer.

He's obviously referring to the need for more investment on players...

  7. If and when we are looking for a new manager and its these wonderous new owners with deep pockets I would be elated to have David Moyes here. I think the goals set for him by ManU in the first season were unrealistic. A place like Villa where expectations wouldn't be sky high right out of the gate would be perfect for his success.

8 years, hundreds of millions spent and worse than when he came in.

Seriously do some of you support the club or a billionaire who never turns up?

Again. Says the guy that's made it pretty clear he's the fairest fair weather fan on here.

How's that then? I've had my season ticket for years and will continue to do so.

    Good try.

I bet the other STHs around you love their seats...

So who is everyone thinking for replacements then? Realistically.

If we are getting a replacement manager with a new regime then we need to first clarify the footballing ethos we're after. I think the footballing appointment mistakes in the recent past have been down to two people (Faulkner and Lerner) with limited footballing knowledge heading the managerial hunt. Why can't we employ a head-hunter with a particular remit for a short-list? It's what happens elsewhere.

Sod this PL experience lark. Get a progressive manager with vision.

If S'hampton can get the likes of Pochettino, why can't we?

Agreed. Houllier was the closest Lerner came to appointing a manager with a clear philosophy and the wilingness to play decent football. But unfortunately we got him 10 years too late.

Enough of these dour Scotsman and any other premier league journeymen. Throw money at a Laudrup, Pochettino or a Martinez.

I'd be so annoyed if we got taken over and gave Lambert a huge treasure chest. He's done nothing to deserve it.

Not starting a war of words but Laudrup hardly deserves it. After they won the League Cup Swansea's run of form was pretty similar to Villa's and Laudrup gave me the indication he stopped giving a shite about it.

"But since then, mirroring Spurs' poor league form after they won the League Cup, Swansea won only two of their remaining 11 league games last season and have won only six of 23 league games this season, losing six of their last eight." http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/02/05/uk-soccer-england-swansea-idUKBREA140GZ20140205

  11. 'Admin' from TheBellsAreRinging, is the person who broke Culverhouse and Karsa going and also that there was a takeover, way before those stories came out else where.

He said there had already been an approach for a manager who was 'exciting'.

Assuming he's as right about that as he has been about everything else, then one would assume that that manager is currently out of work if we have already spoken to them. Suppose we could have broken some rules to approach those already in jobs though.

Bielsa matches the profile of somebody out of work who would be exciting though. Top manager.

As everyone already knows I would be upset if new ownership didn't give Lambert a fair chance with some good money. But I have to admit I would be extremely satisfied if Bielsa was chosen.

  12. I think if we were to be taken over and had the financial clout to offer a manager a bumper deal with the promise of funds for quality players, then we would be a bit silly to let Lambert continue.

It would be based on nothing but blind faith because his record at Villa is simply horrendous.

He's not going to turn into Guadiola just coz he's been given money to spend and if he buys players and fails then it could set us back years.

Any new owners would need to forget about Lambert and pinpoint a manager with a specific footballing philosophy that they can develop at Villa with hopefully major transfer funds.

Lambert has no philosophy, no identity and ultimately no clue.

If new owners come in, I want a fresh start right through the club and put all this sorry mess behind us.

So who is everyone thinking for replacements then? Realistically.

  13. I don't want us to keep Lambert, takeover or otherwise. Two relegation battles in two years, poor football, poor results in that time, enough is enough. Some of our players appear to have gone backwards in the last year, I don't have faith that we'll be able to do any better even with an increased budget.

Fair enough. I actually believe that Delph and Westwood have made incredible strides this year. As for other players going backwards I think a lot of that can be attributed to injuries. Gabby and Weimann definitely don't have any excuses but I think Andi was a one trick pony anyways.

  14. I honestly don't see new ownership keeping Lambert but just giving my 2 cents that if it were me personally I would at least give him a chance with some sufficient financial backing.

For me he bits up the sound bites and regurgitates them....that been said by others of what he should do

He is a re active manager not a pro active manager.

I heard a snip that he asked the 2 suspended coaches on the Friday before the crystal palace game for some advice on a footballing matter after they had been suspended and they told him to **** off.

does that sound like a man in control or on their front foot.

Huh? They were suspended after the Palace game, that makes no sense.

Whilst things haven't gone well on and off the pitch for the last 5 games especially, he has done a valuable job in getting the club ready for a takeover for Lerner, whilst keeping us hopefully in the Premier League. I wouldn't begrudge him getting first dig with the new owners, unless we're talking crazy money that requires the real top, top managers.

We aren't going to attract top top managers though. The top managers won't see the attraction of the job and money won't be enough to attract them.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised if the right investment is made available.

Exactly. Overpay for a Villas Boas or Laudrup or Di Matteo. All managers I want no part of at Villa. Why not give Lambert a chance with a large war chest. Like others have said when he does spend a little more the players have turned out to be pretty damn good. And if it fails miserably he and the new ownership can part ways at winter transfer next year.

The idea of training ground was dougs, and he did start the work but it wasn't even out the ground when he put a stop to it because of costs

It was around 75% built when Doug pulled the plug. It's true Randy probably completed it to a higher speck but It's more Dougs than Randy's IMO.

It was about 75% built and building had stopped - under Doug it's unlikely it would ever have been completed.

That wiki states that Randy had to more than double his investment into BMH to finish it. That clearly indicates 75% is grossly overestimated.

And so is sayings it's Randy's.

We all knew Dougs problems, he ran Villa as a business and we needed investment he never had. But in his years in the premier league we never had 3 relegation seasons on the bounce, and we averaged 5th while under Lerner we are currently in our 4th relegation battle in a row and have averaged 10th.

That was also 10+ years ago. Things have changed drastically since then across the board for all football clubs, especially those fighting to keep a place in the PL.

Without doubt Ellis was way outdated, Randy though has just been an idiot.

Not arguing with you in regards to how Randy has run Villa just saying it hasn't been the end of the world when you look at Portsmouth, QPR, and what is probably going to happen to Fulham.
