  1. just think about why is greenland is called greenland :winkold:

Norseman Erik the Red called it Greenland when he settled there after his extradition for murder circa 1000AD. He thought by calling it Greenland it would sound more pleasant and he would attract more settlers.

I wonder if Erik was red?

Very funny, But Greenland was green long time ago, that was the time when global warming was not newsworthy

This global warming issue is only about money, the sooner you learn the better

Our climate has always change, and will always change, we can't do anything about it

what you should worry much more about is the oil disaster in the Mexican gulf, does anyone think they are telling us how bad it really is?

    I thought so

The sooner I learn the better? I haven't even expressed what my opinion is either way, merely pulled you up on a historical fallacy about the naming of Greenland.

However if I do decide to learn from somebody else's view on this matter, it'll probably be from somebody who can form a cohesive sentence.

  3. picking the glamour players rather than the best TEAM....

    Eh?

    I'm afraid that's nonsense mate.

How is Heskey a "Glamour" player.

    Or Lennon. Or Barry.

Fabio may not be getting the best out of the team in this tournament, but he isn't simply picking "glamour players", let's be honest.

he's playing to the structure that worked so well in qualifying, but it seems no longer to be working that well

I should qualify that statement a little - the glamour comment was really just a dig at playing Lampard & Gerrard, the 'glamour' players, and this insistence at trying to work them both into a 4-4-2 at the expense of other good players playing in their correct positions. Under no circumstances am I describing Heskey as a glamour player :D

  4. Geez Duck, maybe you should try AFL?

England are struggling for cohesion, but that is always going to happen with all the superstars. Capello got you through, give him some credit to get the job done for you guys.

But we ARE always shit at tournaments. Practically every time. It's like Groundhog day. .

I think Capello did a bloody excellent job in qualifying, FWIW. But now he's fallen into the trap that got Eriksson and McLaren in trouble - trying to squeeze the best players into the team by playing them out of position. Never has worked, never will work.

  5. This is not what I expect from England.

Lol, this world cup has been exactly what I expect from England! We're always shit at tournaments. Even when we reached the semis in 1990 we were shit for the first two games.

Overpaid, overrated, over-inflated egos, picking the glamour players rather than the best TEAM... same old story frankly.

  6. I don't understand why he plays Gerrard left, he should drop Lampard and be done with it. Gerrard is our 2nd best player when played correctly.

Capello seems to be sacrificing team balance for playing the 'best' players out of position.

Gerrard has been shit for England most times he's played.. so has Lampard too in fairness, but at least Lampard has had yet another brilliant season, whereas Gerrard has just had a woeful season. Lampard > Gerrard every time for me.

But yes.. round pegs in round holes please!

  7. 30m - for a 24 yr old that is still seen as "potential" is not to be sniffed at when you can get world class players of a similar position (look at Arshavin) for half the price

I suspect we could replace Milner in terms of footballing ability for less than $15 million.

However, i suspect finding someone with his ability AND his attitude, someone who works as hard for the team, would prove rather more difficult, if not impossible.

City have absolutely no chance of signing him now. If we're even considering it, which I seriously doubt, it won't happen until after the world cup - a couple of top performances could see his value double.

  8. For the second match reaction thread running, despite being considered one of the more 'negative' posters on here, I am again flabbergasted by some of the comments moaning about tonights performance. Or at best saying "yeah job done".

Without wanting to start the old "I'm a better fan than you debate" it does beg the question- we win 2-0 away from home- right after the game people are on here moaning that we were still shit- why don't you go and support the lads? Because those that did go tonight supported the team throughout, but as someone else has said, it was slightly embarrassing having some northern monkey's singing "empty seats" at us. We should be selling out small allocations like tonights, yes even on a Wednesday night. So why don't you stop moaning and actually channel more of your effort into attending the game? Can't afford it? Then clean a couple of cars in your area for an extra £20. Those that want to go enough, can do.

Last season we completely went to pieces from February onwards and serious questions had to be asked. This season THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED. We have learnt from (some of) our mistakes and have improved, which is why with just three Premiership games left we are STILL in with a realistic chance of 4th or 5th place. Yes, we have tired in the last couple of months, but considering how far we've got in both cup competitions this season, I think that makes our League position even more commendable. It's been a good season on the whole and I don't see why people persist with their moaning to be frank.

I was chuffed with tonights win and a positive result against the scum on Sunday and I think we can safely say it's been a bloody decent season. Hull are scrapping for survival and have a good home record so to go their and win, and win convincingly, is a major testiment to how we played. Collins, Petrov, Milner and Agbonlahor were absolutely brilliant and were a class above everyone else on the field- Gabby just about won my vote for his superb hold-up play, lightening quick runs, and a brilliant goal to cap off an accomplished performance. That boy can count himself very unlucky if he doesn't go to the World Cup- he's becoming a real all-round player and if he improves his finishing he can be one of the best.

Lastly, Hull's fans are a right bunch of horrible tossers! Glad we sent them packing :winkold:

MARTIN O'NEILL'S CLARET & BLUE ARMY (now I never thought I'd write that on Villa Talk)

    Good post mate :thumb:

    Indeed. Well said that man.

  9. I agree about Warnock briny... I reckon Luke Young is actually a better left back than him anyway. Less prone to making costly mistakes, certainly. But _please_, no more Cuellar at right back.

About time we rested/dropped a whole bunch of the players from the Chelsea game. And give Delf a start, he offers far more of a goal threat than Heskey or a half fit Gabby. Problem is it seems half of our fringe players are carrying knocks.

  10. That annoyed the fans, the fans made it known to MON.

So this season MON has took them seriously, and guess what has happened - we were in a Cup Final and we are three weeks from a Semi-Final/

So moaning bitching fans who post on the Internet and ring up radio shows are now being given some credit for our success in the cups this year?

If we win a trophy, MON should give it straight to those fans as a thank you. It's only right.

  11. The fact that Vidic was back alongside Gabby when he made the challenge has no bearing on anything, he was still last man and it was a disgraceful decision, but not wholly unexpected.

The only reason Vidic was back alongside Gabby was cos he was tugging at his shirt!

As you say, sadly not wholly unexpected.
