  1. General Krulak here:

It might be only fair to our Fans that my comment be afforded the same front page spread that the other comment received...not because they are mine but, rather, because it presents a different view with hopefully the same passion.

So does the General get front page coverage with his comments? Nothing as yet. Would seem only fair?

The General has been contacted about his right to reply. limpid.

  2. I'll fourth it! Reading that statement from Leeds made me so proud, whatever happens in the next few years, for good and bad, I can only thank yourself and the rest of the board for doing so much good for our club.

Best board in the league? I think so.

Add me to this. Our club oozes class, unlike a lot of others.

Yep. Very proud of the club lately. 8)

  3. General Krulak here:

    3. omargy and others: Something to feel good about...feeling "deflated." I continue to be somewhat chagrined by the attitude of some. We are in the semis of the Peace Cup after a very strong comeback against a good team. We have seen some of our young players really step up and play solid football. We have signed a solid player and we have more action to come. Villa Park continues to get a face lift and it is rapidly becoming one of the best stadiums in the UK. We have a Manager who has consistently moved the Club up the tables. We have a caring owner. I don't feel deflated!!

And now into the final of the peace cup!

I for one think we have a brilliant board and manager, and can't wait for the new season... I don't feel deflated at all.

Thanks for all the great posts General, you're an absolute legend.

  4. Petrov. Just.

Both are classy midfielders with good vision, both rarely give the ball away, both read the game well.

Petrov works harder though, much better tackler, and gives his all for Villa. Barry is more likely to produce something special out of nothing, but this season in particular has dissappeared in way too many games for my liking.

As others have said before, I don't think they're particularly suited as partners in a 4-4-2.

  5. We need somone who can actually run, and chip in with a few goals.

    what, like Petrov ?

his pace and finishing are legendary. not to mention his set pieces and amazing assist rate

Petrov has probably been one of our best players this season....and unlike Barry he doesn't want to leave.

The same Petrov who has been one of the top 5 tacklers inthe league all season (Opta Stats?). Yeah, he's just useless eh?

  6. Arshavin is good, but he's more of what they've already got in Nasri, Rosicky and Ramsey. It wasn't Peter Beardsley Arsenal needed, it was Terry Butcher and Bryan Robson.

    Spot on.

Also, at Euro 2008 in the semi against Spain, Arshavin was entirely anonymous. I don't think he'll make much difference to be honest, and I wonder if the Premier League might prove too physical for him.

  7. I was interested to read after the game that Ashley Young feels that he needs to modify his game when he doesn’t have the giant Norwegian to aim his crosses at. I was also interested to hear several commentators (and players) who were of the opinion that had Carew played, he would likely have got on the end of one or two things. Something isn’t adding up. Ash says he plays differently, and yet still puts in balls that Carew would thrive on; balls that, to be fair, Sidwell and Barry were always unlikely to profit from.

The Hare is obviously not the man for this. Hence the possibility of Emily coming in in january. We need somebody like that, with the style we like to play and that is most effective for us. RSC would have been good in this regard, but deosn't seem tpo be available. Maybe Ashton is another who could play this role.

Ashton is a top striker, but he's also the only player in the league who spends more time on the treatment table than Owen.

  8. Has to be Reo-Coker who goes at the moment I think. DoI really like him and he tries harder for the cause than any other player, with the possible exception of Laursen, but he gives the ball away too much for my liking, and doesn't quite have Petrov's class.

But as others have said, nice dilemna to have. And they'll all get there chance to play if we make it to the UEFA cup group stages. :D
