I know I sound like a stuck record but I really think we need another forward.

Agreed. When Tammy wasn't firing we suffered last year up front through lack of competition.

I'd take someone who could play winger or striker to a high standard a la Jarrod Bowen.

Absolutely, although coincidentally it was probably the weakest part of Tuanzebe's game too.

I really do think he'll have a top class career, but seeing him and Hause consistently ducking high balls used to drive me mad. It wouldn't have wound me up if either had at least tried to jump for one or two!

Can't agree mate. Konsa is signed to play. A fit Chester pushes him but Konsa, if signed, will start.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't think it's a "first choice" scenario. I think the aim will be the two of them to provide genuine competition.

I'm sure we'd like this in every position, but I can't see there being any debate over who is 1st choice for the left CB.

Never seen him play, but really looking forward to all the Konza typos.

Edit: just realised this was your point...

I watched him in every home match he played in, he's a very, very talented lad with ambition, with a lot more to come and I don't think Konsa will want to play second fiddle for long, DS will know how to use him, at the journalist so called prices quoted (£12 Million) he will be a steel with a long future ahead of him.

    Great to hear.

A lot of people seem to be hoping we'll be after another CB even if this happens, but I think it's more likely Chester starts this season first choice I expect Konsa to get minutes in cup games and as and when Chester can't play too many games in a short period. If he shows the enough improvement over the year I could see him ending the season as first choice with Mings.

  6. Edit: way too slow on most of these points.

    Axel is more highly rated

Agreed, but so what? I think Axel could be quality, but don't think he would get anywhere near as much attention if he didn't play for Utd.

    proven at this level

5 games total in the PL playing with far better players than he would with us - not a big enough sample size IMO. Weren't a couple of these appearances also in midfield? He has a total of 35 senior appearances against Konsa's 113 at pretty much the exact same age so while he may have more (albeit very little) of the mythical PL experience, he has far less playing time.

hands down the better of the two.

This is subjective, but fair enough. I don't necessarily disagree, but I only watched Konsa 2/3 times last season against pretty much every one of Axel's appearances. I might feel differently if I had watched every game from both, but don't feel I'm in a great position to judge.

I think Axel is absolutely class, but they also strike me as similar players and I doubt many of us watched enough of each to make a truly unbiased judgement. I appreciate a lot of people watch more football than me though so apologies if you have seen him play a lot more.

Tried a short goal kick that went straight to a baggies player who shot and Mings cleared it off the line.

That would have put them through

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that.

He had a few dodgy distribution moments in a 10-15 minute period that were giving me palpatations.

He’s a rolls Royce style centre back, he just breezes through matches whenever I’ve seen him at u18 and u23 level. He’s great on the ball and good in the air, he’s just got the lot for me, others will probably disagree. For me, he’s a great centre back, he’ll have a good career whatever happens

Completely agree, he's looked class when I've seen him.

The only thing that worries me with him (which seems to stop a lot of players stepping up) is whether he can improve physically. Preferably not to the detriment of his other attributes!

FWIW I enjoy your opinions on youth players and think you have a good handle on how good they are - it's just often difficult to tell whether they will make it until they actually do/don't make the step up and the ability to improve physically as well as their mental attributes really seem to come into play at this point.

I know it's difficult to split out the excitement to make objective judgements on youth players too!

Does he even have a missus - if he does she must be camera shy or doesn't like holidays..........

This will go through, we're just negotiating like a proper football club for a change.

I’m pretty sure this whole thing came from his female friend/business partner as a month or so ago people were saying his girlfriend had the interior design business and didn’t fancy moving.

What about the advertising BBC watchdog,  "Trillion Trophy Stadium?"

"I went there expecting to see millions of Trophies all lined up,  shiny and that, you know,  none"

"Took the whole family. Ruined our day."

In my weird corner of the world you'd be better off arguing the name change was so successful that visitors have doubled as so many people want to see the "trillion trophies". (I don't suppose anyone has got further in the count than 1 trophy - the league cup?)

Best thing is the club probably wouldn't want to deny it as they'll be so desperate to show they're better than the previous owners and their 'inspired' name change meant revenue rocketed.

  11. A bit left field, but I work as a business rates surveyor and realised that Small Heath could be in for a bit of a jump in their costs next year.

While valuing stadiums is far from my area of expertise, I think the valuation is based on a revenue model to estimate the rental value. As there will be extra income next year from Coventry renting the ground, their bill should go up.

St Andrews is valued at about £900k at the moment and if Coventry are paying around £1.2m (a figure I've previously read they were paying for the Ricoh), theoretically the valuation should go up to around this level. The annual bill is about 50% of the valuation so they could potentially end up paying an extra £150k a year. Possibly even more.

I'm not feeling petty enough to write a letter to try and get this changed, but if there was another zero on the end of the figures I'd be sorely tempted!

Sadly it's a little too late to award them a goal and take Tammy's penalty off us. ;) Let's give them £15m for Webster and call it quits. :D

Right now I'd quite happily take a bit of EFL manufactured drama to keep me entertained.

It might even distract me enough to save me from getting the sack due to half of my recent output being Googling 'Aston Villa'.

From memory, Weimann was given offside when he wasn't (for a disallowed goal) and our penalty was soft.  I can see why they think they'd been harshly done by.

To be fair the penalty decision was an absolute farce and I would have been fuming if that was given against us.

I'm not sure the Weimann one was that clear cut. I remember it as being right on the line, but I thought it was offside based on one angle and possibly not based on another.

  15. Does anyone think it would be a good gesture if we could get a GoFundMe going to raise money for a dementia charity? This close to Yesterday, I reckon there would be a lot of people willing to chuck a bit towards a charity that would no doubt mean a lot to Dean Smith.

Meh we need a better team round him than this

Agreed, but has he not said he'd going to take the time to get the right coaches? I'd prefer that than having another round of payoffs in a few months because we panic and get another load of shysters in.

I've just read it all before..... pretty much this time of year..... For the last 5 years.

I know the feeling and I have to admit I've got caught up in it myself prematurely before and wont be making the same mistake again. That said, the main positive for me is the positivity others have that has enabled fans to still give the team such fantastic support over what has been a very painful few years in football terms for all of us.

Ah the standard positivity thread after one win :crylaugh:

I get that you might not feel the same and for good reason, but it seems a bit pointless coming in here just to mock others wanting to be positive.

There is an interesting article in the Times today, where strikers are ranked as to how many points they earned for their club in a season: in other words, how crucial were their goals to the outcome.

So a single goal in a 1-0 win is worth more than a goal scored in an easy win.

Van Persie came top by adding 27 points to Man U's season's total and adding 24 for Arsenal when he was there.

Gareth Bale (24), Suarez (24) and Vardy (23) were also mentioned.

When it came to points earned per goal Leicester's Mahrez came top with  1.19 points and Gabby came second with 1.08 points earned per goal.

So it is not only the perception that Gabby scored a lot of crucial goals for Villa, the statistics bear it out.

I'm not sure if I've misunderstood (I'd be interested to read the article if you could link it), but this seems like a slightly misleading statistic as a more prolific scorer could have a lower average e.g. if Gabby managed to get two goals in a 2-0 win he'd have an average of 1.5 points/goal as opposed to one goal doubling this.

  20.

The problem with indiscriminately answering fans is the wind ups and I don't see that changing; this isn't a criticism and in fact actually makes Tony look good trying to sort out what seems to be a fan's problem.

I have to admit to being rather naive of twitter culture, but I see no great humour in pretending to have a genuine issue which someone then replies to. Bizarre way to spend your time.
